Treasure Chest Loot and IDOCs

Treasures should be real treasures and what is more treasured than all the things past players have horded. This proposal is to take all IDOC items and throw them into a treasure chest pool and divide them up for treasure chest loot.

There could be mechanisms for measuring the loot quality for a treasure map level, but maybe that isn't important. It could be as simple as the quantity of items in the treasure chest.

What I propose is forget the whole battle over whether peerless reagents should be in a chest or whatever the battle of the day is. Thus, if the IDOC has peerless horded loot then it would be in the pool to be included in a chest. The loot may have lots of ingots if the person horded ingots, or shovels, or runic tools, or talismans, bank checks, or rares.

The bottom line of this proposal is that it would be treasure. Will we ever run out of IDOC's? It hasn't happened yet...

Sounds a neat idea for now, But lets hope that UO reaches a stage where its gaining players not loosing them, What goes in the treasure chests then? An IOU? :p

I think this is a wonderfull idea and I wished this had been done years back.

I never liked IDOCs and scripters getting most of the loot thanking to the ability to place a new house right away and grab everything into it and locking it down.......

Use the system from the Cavern of the Discarded and have one item per level of the map be in the chest you dig up. You might get the dying plants somebody tossed after harvesting the resources, you might get a major artifact that someone with a hundred of the things decided was wasting storage space in his house.

These are supposed to be Treasure chests you know. Not just be a box of Trash someone buried and made a map to as a joke.

It sounds like a good idea until you find yourself removing 50 mortar and pestle from a chest just to get to the loot inside. Most of the stuff at idocs is junk, I don't think anyone wants to have to root through it.

if you want idoc loot, go find them and fight for them in fel like the rest of us

great news on t maps for sure, but don't negatively affect one system for another
far to much of that kinda stuff going on in the game as it is

and besides, idocs have been on the "radar" and changes have been made that affects idocers etc, we have adapted to the "new" way please look somewhere else



IDOCING IS A PLAYSTYLE not something to mess up just to sort out others issues

It would dramatically increase the chances of finding an item in the chest worth carrying away though. :) We dig through a lot as it is and never find anything other than the gold, gems, & regeants.

Excellent idea, items not wanted can be left in the chest until the chest is removed, THEN they can be sent to the Cavern....nice idea.

Hate to break it to you dude, but IDOCing is not a system. And if you want to argue that the decay times leading up to the house falling is a system, well, guess what ? This idea wouldn't change that one bit.

The signs say This house is in danger of collapsing, not "This house is in danger of allowing access to all of its items".

You're probably right. It would make it so pirates could check the treasure map spawns and try to scavange your chest. That battle would be too hard to get any treasure for a lot of treasure hunters and they would need to have large groups to do the chest instead of soloing treasure hunting.

All the IDOC'ers that have the day off or don't work get first dibs...the way it should be.

IDOCs are fine the way they are. Some of the best fights I have ever been to were over IDOC keeps and castles. If you guys want to screw up the trammel IDOCs go ahead, they suck anyway. Leave the fel side alone.

well, no point trying to discuss systems, etc, would take forever, but what is good, is the treasure chest loot has improved, and can get better

not sure if idoc house loot could be tied into chests anyway, but i am not an expert on coding etc.

but that said, i would be really miffed if i find and idoc, and my idoc friends find others, and time them and moniter the decay stat, and then go to fall and then see it disappears.....

the time it takes to play that part of the game just to have it removed for some reason will negatively affect many uo players.

lol saying that, script timers and looters amazxingly grab the good stuff anyway so there we go

1. sort out t maps loot!
2. sort out script idoc looters!!!!!!!


like i said, great idea to buff treasure chests more, and yes i have a t hunter!. but not through idoc loot

lets hope the treasure hunting changes are just the start and the whole loot thing gets better and better

i would love to see a roling program where every 3 months or so the loot changes

lets say the Devs have a 12 or so "sets" of martis and that they switch them (let us know, ie "this quarter its set 3" etc) and we can look up on stratics what they are and go for them,(after the t hunters have submitted info when they get the items) keep it fresh

so we dont have the "old" martis that no one wants (even though the value will increase as they become rarer) and we certainly dont have what is happening now, with a few new items , then within a few weeks there are millions of them out there to make them undesirable

a system like the SA artis, 25 odd news ones were announced and everyone lost their minds trying to get them, kinda like that

i cannot wait to get started on my t maps thats for sure

and i have another char for idocs..

UO is about how you want to play and be your own character. As Mapper said I agree with the above statement. Some play to just do IDOC's and are legit players not the latter. If we lose that player base and not droves coming back to the game then its more of a loss for UO than a win population wise. Instead of finding ways to make a smaller community we need to fnd ways to have it to grow.

I had a better idea back 10 years ago.
Every house that goes into Idoc the owner has that last 7 days to collect their property ie: house and contents. (Non owners wouldnt see the house go into Idoc mode, the owner would get warning at log in to access the house menu which would stop the process)

When the house should fall it converts to a Housing Athority Property that places the house up for sale with all its contents included, the set rate would be 5 x the house placement value @ a first come first served on the Athority's NPC.

You would buy the house sight unseen and not knowing what house your buying till you recieve that house's key. (You would know the style/size of the home)

The key you could recall off to that house, you gain the house the minute you use the key to unlock the door (one time use of key then key will poof).

Remember not every house is a anchinet treasure chest of the ultimate rares of the game, this would also be a game gold sink. Pig in a poke? Yes

I'd love to see more people in the game and we are getting some back but I do agree with everyone WE NEED MORE PEOPLE in the game.

Minor problem

One man's treasure is >trash< to many other's

"Treasure chest's " never had an "original owner"

that boxed and buried and created a map
and then lost supposed map ...
(not to mention: forgot where buried)

*sigh*

Nor to mention ...

Are enough peeps leaving to "supply"(via idoc's)
a vibrant Thunter's thirst for loot?


Better to design a "player created" Thunter solution
where the Thunters box and bury and carto a map
and for balance
any fool with a shovel, idly digging
might just uncover the buried treasure
and the "protectors" (enchanted/cursed chest)
are of a sliding scale (much like the maps)


then there is the "water based" items ...
boats decaying with fullish holds ...




try again ...

Long ago the IDOCs should of been changed.

Instead of falling, the house should rise up and explode spreading its contents a few screens in every wich way. Containers explode spreading contents once they hit the ground after house pops.

Center the house location a shrine is in place for the land rush champ. The spawn levels covering the elemental spawn. The champ uses nasty area effects and cannot be drug over 10 spaces from the shrine. The champ loot would be some random rubble types unique to the facet.
