Transferring characters? Beware: a bug

Word to the wise: I transferred a character last night and lost my Sorcerer's Cap when I dragged it directly from my 'worn items' backpack to my paperdoll (it was on my cursor, then upon equipping, it vanished). I would suggest moving all of your equipment from said bag to your backpack and then equip. Of course, I cannot guarantee that this will avoid the bug from occurring, but it might be a way to avoid the problem.

FWIW, I think my character may now be bugged, still getting the message "your armor combines to protect you" but now missing a piece. Resists are also not displaying the expected 70s resists, and I can equip a hat without issue.

And before the suggestions roll in, GMs are unable to restore "lost" items. I paged one immediately and got nowhere, left a message via Feedback | Mythic Entertainment | Ultima Online and have not received a response. There goes some clean up points. Oh well, loving my new home!

you should always use the context menu on the boxs/bags in the xfer crate. you can select unpack and it will unload it how it was when you copied.

also you may try paging a gm but ask them to check you for invisible items. a thread here about shame disappearing items, someone mentioned having some items stuck in a invisible pack. think they had a backpack weight even when they had no items on or in backpack. just a thought

Good idea, Xalan. I got a canned response about GMs not being able to restore lost items when I paged one last night, but I'll try again tonight with the invisible issue. And thank you for the tip on the unload feature--it was my first time transferring, and I didn't see that option until I had already dealt with my equipped gear (standing naked in Yew, eek!) Was just following the instructions on ORIGIN - Ultima Online - Main which actually states you can click and drag from that bag. Boo.

We actually died and got rezzed one day, and when I started dressing out an dlooted my corpse, I had no spellbook. Paged a GM and told what the problem was in my page.

I got yanked to the back room of Vesper bank, and told to strip naked and put all my stuff in the backpack in a bag on the floor. I did so, and in a minute, there was my spellbook in my b pack!!

I asked, the GM said it was in my pack all the time, just hidden in a corner I couldnt see or get to?? LOL

I was one happy camper, anyway. But those lil oddities seem to pop up once in a while for no reason.

And yeah, queued twice last night, no luck on getting them to search my inventory. GM would not even open live chat with me, just sent me one of those gemmed messages telling me to check my email, as well as telling me to leave feedback on UOHerald (amusing--still haven't received a response on the one I left on Monday). Email received was a canned response repeat of the emails I received the night before. Lost cause, I suppose.

Lesson learned, though I have to say, as a recently resubbing veteran this experience has left a terrible taste in my mouth (I was following THEIR instructions on THEIR website step by step) and would unsub if I were not made of sterner stuff. I know, it's just a Sorcerer's Hat (and I'm fortunate that clean-up is still on), but it's the principle of the matter. Their bug, and I get no response other than canned "we cannot help you" crap. A simple acknowledgement that I was screwed by a flaw in their programming would make me feel quite a bit better, they don't even have to replace the damn hat, jeez. Really ****-poor customer service.

There is in fact a hidden bag in all characters, time ago some people used it to place their pots because items on that bag stay with char upon death (damn cheaters ),anyway page a GM and ask him to look for hidden items maybe your cap is not lost.

Yeah, last night I used the word "vanished" rather than "lost", but I think I just got a cranky GM (as I said, he wouldn't even speak directly to me). I'll try again tonight. Thanks for the encouragement and info, both of you!

No problem. Sounds like your hat is invisible so one way or another you have to find that hat. Invisible items are a bit of a nuisance anyhow

You also might try stripping down and emptying your pack one by one and check the item count/weight after everything is gone. Also are you able to equip another hat? You said you tried to equip it and am wondering if you are simply wearing an invisible hat now.

Also if you have the time you could also try changing clients and seeing if its visible there.

Tried all that you mentioned but to no avail--weight matched that of a newbie I made on another server, and I can equip a hat without issue. Also switching clients didn't help.

so u still get the benefit of having the full suit And u can use a dif hat? that sounds awsome to me if so extra mods is always nice

No, that's the problem. I am not getting the benefits of the suit. I wouldn't care if the hat was invisible on my hat and still working (I think wizards hats are generally fugly anyway ).
