Bring new players to UO?
Easy.
1. Start the Tutorial at character creation.
- Say a few words about skills
- Make info balloons and pop-ups
- Explain stats the same way
- Offer pre-built templates: warrior, Mage, tamer, crafter
2. Spawn the new player in New Haven
3. Show the new player the important buildings, NPCs, landmarks
4. Lead the new player to skill trainers. Skill trainers for all skills must be made.
5. After the skill quests are completed, award the player with a starting suit.
6. Continue the tutorial by pointing the new player to places, when he can continue training his skills.
7. Show the new player how to chat and interact with other players.
8. Replace the Tutorial with a system of gradual achievements, which award the player for competing the tasks. At the same time the achievement system will continue to explain the game mechanics and will expand the player's game context and experience.

Profit!
Statistically the good tutorial and the good achievement systems will make 10% of the registering players to stay in the game. And 10% of these staying players will pay a sub.
So: 1000 new players register in UO per day.
100 of them stay.
10 of them pay sub.
So, Broadsword, the most critical task ahead of you is the first 30 minutes of the game.
Fix them and you will be able to grow your player base steadily.
