Training skills: with or without +skill items?

Well, the title says it all. If you're training a skill, is it worth to equip +skill gear, so one can fight against stronger monsters or cast spells from higher circles?

No, you gain faster at lower levels than what you will at higher skill levels. About the only time I would suggest putting on items to increase your skill would be if your training ninjitsu. That is because about a year or more ago they changed the skill requirements for two moves, and one of those moves was what you used to train up to 85 if you didn't have stealth/hidding to use shadow jumping. Now if you don't have stealth/hidding you can train ninjitsu up to a little over mid-60's and then the gains pretty much stop and there isn't another move that requires 50-60 skill range except shadow jump which you need stealth/hidding to perform.

If training magery, it is actually better to equip a spell channelling weapon with a negative mage penalty (-26 to -29), so that you can still gain while casting lower level spells that require less mana.

Additionally the lower the total skill points you have put in skills the better...in terms of training a difficult skill up. If possible, soul stone off what you don't need, train said difficult skill, equip the rest of your skills back on.

For melee skills I always use +skill items until I get high enough real skill that I can take the jewel off.

Example: Buy 40 fencing at New Haven. Equip +20 fencing Dread Horn's Revenge Kryss = 60 Fencing
Throw on a +15 ring for 75 fencing.
Start hitting a golem with the 100% PSN damage kryss until I reach 85-90 fencing. Take off the ring. Repeat until I'm about 95 or so fencing + the kryss still. Once i'm that high, take off the kryss so now i'm back down to 75 real fencing w/out any items. Switch to another 100% PSN dmg fencing weapon, then keep going.

For magery I always use a SC -mage weapon so I can keep casting lower magery spells and gain faster.

Those are about the only two reasons why you'd want to use + skill items for training.

Not a black white question yes it is and no its not the skill ninjitsu for example is a pain to train after 70 but with a couple jewels you can death strike and gains come quicker. so it is skill dependent question if your training magery use jewels with a neg weapon and be able to cast some better spells more often helps sometimes. and lets you gain while dishing out some melee dmg.

again all depends on skill and the lvl of the skill.

Agreed, in certain circumstances it is best to use skill items, for example i recently was training another dexxer...for some reason his tactics stuck at 60 while his swords was mid 90's...began training in painted caves and swords shot up, after an hour not one tactics gain, so i threw on a +20tactics set and bam!!!

Within an hour i had taken them of!

however the most -skill you can get generally the better...discord wands etc works a charm for raising those pesky skills
