I've always liked the Rotting Corpse room found on the fourth level of Covetous for working skills. You can drag the mummies out to the end of the hallway then focus on the RCs. The Scrounger/Henchmen camp might also be pretty nice, plus you can get imbuing ingredients.

For mage skills on pets I used to take them to the bottom level of despise and then find a spot where they sense a monster on the other side of a wall which they couldnt reach. they will then happily stand there casting spells. On themselves I think, as they cant actually see their opponent. This also serves to raise their Med and Eval Int skills.

Problem with training pets magery

First should be in the Tamer Forum but I'll bite and throw you a bone. :stir:

The best ppppppace I have found is in the Twisted Weld and around the rock were the Cu's spawn. In here youo can get a Satyr to disco your pet also and then have them cast oer the wallon a Paragon Cu.

:whip::thumbup1: The KEY is to only have them fight for about 30 seconds then let them med bak up again. This way they are at FULL MANA and can cast higher leve spells :mf_prop: Hogher level spells give a better chanc at gains at higher levels. If they stay at 0 mana as soon as they get enough they cast again therefore only throwing low level spells making it VERY :rant2: hard to gain.

:gee: AGAIN THEY KEY IS LET THE PET MED

Putting 100 magery on pets (and 100 healing on dogs) is pretty messed up. Especially the healing on dogs, I don't think they can gain gm healing through normal use.

For magery there's 2 things I do, depending on the situation.

One way I do is in Twisted Weald, with me personally discording the pets, and I make them fire spells across the rocks at a pissed off paragon cu sidhe who doesn't care to path the long (but available) way around the rocks to my pets. (I would never do this this with a satyr providing the discord). Changelings can keep things interesting so if you tab out, you can't do it for long, and expect to die once in a while if you do tab out at any point. One of the points of doing it this way is that the pets do not put on wrestling/tactics/anatomy during the process. If you are trying to keep the total amount of skills as low as possible while training the magery, this is what you'd do.

Pets with a flame breath tend to **** up the paragon cu sidhe over time, so you have to take little breaks to let it heal up. If you want it to stick around for the heal-up (which you do), you should personally fire a spell at it now and then, or it'll walk off. Which can be a serious pain in the ass because they walk so fast and go so far.

Other way is if you are unguilded in Tram you can just make your pets fight one another. If I do this I do it on a boat for the privacy (don't own a tram house, never tried in a tram house, mebbe it's fine).

Another way that I don't usually use, but can be done, is like this. There's a series of quick commands where I can cause a pet to stand a short distance away from its target and cast on it. It's like all kill and then all stay. But when I have a pair of pets out, I have only been able to get one at a time do the standing and casting. The other one has to stand and take it and you have to rename the commanded pet to something where it will respond to individual commands (such as... "a"). It's most useful for making a lone pet cast on a shadow elemental that's already being tanked by someone else's pet. Some people simplify the setup of this using energy fields to block the pet's initial movement toward the elemental but, it is possible to do it with commands only.

It might be helpful to let them med up and mana dump repeatedly. But I've known people to put GM magery on pets using the infighting way while practically afk. Quite long periods of time, though.

Ways to train your pet where you use player-placed structures to permanently block their pathing is considered an exploit.

Twisted Weald, let Swoop get on the rocks and tell your pet to kill. Trained 3 GDs this way and never once did I wait for it to med up and it was still throwing all spells that they norm do.

greater dragons don't require magery training except for remedial due to deaths. They tame at their magery cap.

if its not a 5 slot pet, then just be unguilded and have two pets fight each other. no need to vet. just let em go at it.

if its a greater dragon, then dig up a shadow ele and sick it on them. they cant damage the ele so you can keep it up as long as you want. requires only a tiny amount of vet to keep the dragon healed.

100/GM healing on a Cu, through Rotten Corpse's, take quite awhile but it can be done, IF you have the patience:thumbup1:. (Disco'd w/Changlings also works well) Have done it both ways, and is boring as #&**!

It will not work for much longer, but the Gazers in the two rooms off the hallway in the middle of shame are great. You can stand outside the rooms, with your pet (I train mostly dogs) inside. Tell it to guard you, and watch the gains and the fame add up. An additional bonus is the occasional artie drop.

Cu heal is get an Ice serp tame from the thorn. with the Cu not guarding have the serp attack you. The Cu will always attempt to heal you if they are not damaged also. They will try to heal you even when you are dead. Sad thing is they still cannot rez you even though they have the skill.

Cu heal method number two, drink poison. Stronger poison as they gain.

As far as magery and it works in reverse for resist. My pack of frenzy are fodder fun or speed bumps to secure my escape. Just wish there was a way to train the hells to not waste time breathing fire. All other casters "not a GD" just are useless vs the bigger game. VS the none uber bosses, all casters including the GD kill way to slow compared to a pack of the very old school three in the hands of a Disco Tamer. Frenzy, Predator Hellcats & Hell Hounds. If your just out for GQ reasons. Enjoy the mare wyrm combo or team of firesteeds with a delay attack horse.

Training should be gains that are made doing useful hunting and not grinding gains like golem poking. Problem now is there are no useful game for a vast majority of list of tames. The pets need to be hashed out more like weapons are for damage and speed. The GD needs to be slowed down heavy hitters. All the useless current list of tames need to have their attack speed and casting speed raised.

As for the main issue of mage training. Do the boura explorer quest. Your pet will get to do spell dumps of higher spells. You gather off the kill while they med. Quest rewards, hides, blood, furs, leather, pelts, and the rare chance at a shield besides a trained pet. Caster pet gains just as fast as any the mind numbing grind or AFK methods. Use your training time wisely and your Crafters and Imbuers will thank you.

When I looked at getting the CU to heal me for its gains, it healed me far too infrequently to make for good gains.

Fastest gains I get on dogs is like this. For the start, I do an all stay and then discord the dog and repeatedly cast poison on it, making it cure itself, this is assuming the dog's healing and anatomy are mid-level already, say 75 or so. When it gains to where the self-cure is succeeding first-time virtually always and the gains have slowed down to nearly nothing, I switch over to having a rotting corpse poison it (this is in the neighborhood of around 90 skill). If I had a nox mage or a means to do the higher level poisoning myself, it wouldn't be necessary to use the rotting corpse.

On the rotting corpse, at first it's a little troublesome because the dog is still a bit low to have a great success rate on that poison. If the dog is taking too much damage, it can help to discord the rotting corpse in addition to the dog, and remember that the rotting corpse trains up as it hits the dog so, as time goes on the situation can shift. Training the dog this way, going for max speed gains, requires second by second participation on your part because you have to magery-heal the dog when it is not poisoned, and try to force it to do its own cures, while not having the dog die from the damage during the process. The benefit of magery healing it is that you won't accidently cure the poison, but you do need to have Vet heals available because you will occasionally need it to save the dog's life. You sometimes have to cure the dog and heal it up fast if its self-cures have failed repeatedly.

Some people leave the dog alone in the room with the rotting corpse, allowing the dog to kill them as they respawn, while they themselves go do something else. This does in fact work but it's not as fast overall, and leaving the pet alone carries it's own issues (loyalty lowers over time and has to be refreshed, and someone else may show up and start killing the rotten corpse for their own reasons).

You're trying to train up the magery on your pets? If this is the case, let me suggest Ortanords in Ter Mur. Your pets won't be able to harm them but can still get gains for casting and low level combat. Ortanords, meanwhile, don't do much damage so it's easy to keep your pets alive against them.
