As for a resolution in the meantime, ALWAYS let the player that's paying with gold click first and wait up to a minute before clicking at your end. The people running this scam/exploit will not wait that long before changing the amount

If everyone did this, no trades would ever be made. I know that I would give up and move on long before waiting anywhere near a minute to complete a trade.

Don't judge people that don't check after entering a gold amount either. It's not that known... I've seen people get upset immediately at people for not checking first... The person they were upset with wasn't even aware of the exploit.

Just wait for them to check or calmly ask that they check first.
