The last piece of news I think I heard from a town crier was about the headless horseman haloween event (dunno what year). I got the arms! (kept em for a year or two then sold them for probably a fraction of what their worth now)

I've my fingers crossed for this. I can't imagine they'd put in a town crier system (or resurrect the old one) without having plans to use it. I was a little surprised when I didn't hear the town criers proclaiming the imminent activation of the blackrock detector.
So--perhaps we'll be seeing more micro-events with Publish 53? Random monster spawns as the Shadowlords start their attack on Sosaria? Event status--as in, letting us know when we can start looking for Sutek/Dexter/Melissa?

UO the T.V. generation , no longer will you have to endure the tedium of going to town to get your news, you can be as anti social as you want with your NEW Sherry the mouse town cryer in your home.
hours of fun will be spent sitting in front of the mouse waiting for events to start.
and once you add stealth to your template , not only will you not see any other players by avoiding town , now they can not see you on the off chance you have to venture out of your houses.
