Tower placement on 18x18

I just found a spot where a custom 18x18 house would fit, but I cannot place a tower there? What could be the reason for that?

Probably the wings on the top of the tower... they have to have clear ground too.

I was using the free trial offer (seems to have finished now) to revist after years of leaving UO. I found alot of spots on even the most crowded servers and I am wondering whether to come back.

I always liked towers and later two-story villas (a bit small though). I am wondering whether I should just drop a classic design or invest the time in a 18x18 custom.

How long would it take for a newbie (custom designs did not exist when I played) to build/copy the design of a custom house like for example the UOAS contest winner (Eowyn of Chesapeake)? About how much would it cost to built?

I am not very talented so I would not be able to create something original that looks nearly that good on my own...

Also is it possible to have a two-story villa lantern in custom houses?

A lot of custom designs I have seen don't have any roofs. Is it because they are too hard to build, or do people prefer a more accessible/visible last floor?

Walls and such are 500 gold per item placed ... haven't seen (or don't recall) the design you want to use, but if you can do some rough tallies of pieces, then you can get an approximate cost.

Roofs are not the easiest to manage but I prefer them myself. I've also found that of all the roofing choices only a few look and work well in the CC (no gaps, offsets, etc). However some folks like to use open roofs for plant growing, rooftop gardens, etc.

My current 18x18 on LA/Malas is about 500K cost because I have an open area in the center that goes all the way up. My former design was closer to 620K, had lots of roofing, little open area.

Someone experienced with design could probably duplicate the building in about a half-hour to an hour. Decor could take a lot longer though.

It could take a while longer without experience, but along the way, you may find other things you like better.
