Totem of the Void "protection" mod, what for ??

Am I the only one who feels the Random Protection mod that comes with Totems of the Void as a wasted mod slot ?

I mean, most of those I have seen show protection to stuff like bulls, ice snakes and other minor critters and, on top of that, the protection is usually quite low, like under 20% or hardly over that.

Anyways, did anyone ever come with a protection against something worth the mod slot and being quite high, say over 50% ?

As far as I know it does. But it's only "ONE" creature. Like; the rune beetle; that someone stated above, would be great for fighting those. A lot of useless ones though.

I have one laying about that has the Bovine Champ in the Labrynth. Other high end I've seen is for elder lich. Had a 100% bird killer and it barely made a dif with or with out. Was by no means a bird slayer effect

Nothing really game breaking. Why add a protection mod that is hardly usable ?

I mean, how did this protection mod idea ever made it to actually be implemented ?

Wasn't there any other mod that was a better candidate for the slot ? I don't know, perhaps LRC ? Or maybe a slayer mod ? Or, why not, something like an INT bonus ?

Or at least, why not add protection to stuff that players actually hunt ?
Actual protection from Dragons, Peerless, Lich Lords, Tokuno MoBs, Stygian Abyss MoBs and so forth...............

Sometimes it would be really interesting to know how game ideas come up and see the light in the game........

It's a fragment, 10 essence of order, and 10 seeds of renewal that DON'T need to be used to imbue a piece of armor - and 2 USEFUL mods that you wouldn't have otherwise. If you don't think LMC 10% is useful, then you just don't have the ability to look at the big picture when it comes to full suits. Even for something as base as a crafter, it's a very nice boost. I'll not explain to you which skill it provides a boost to - try reading the profession essays to figure out which.

The protection is something that costs you nothing. Lemme guess - you complain when they put a fork on your table, and all you're eating is soup...

Considering that there are other Talismans out there (Conjurer Trinket for example, or the new Slither, or the Library ones....), I definately am not saying that having LMC and HPR does not come handy...

Of course, having them is better than not having them.....

My point is, that when it was decided to make the Totem of the Void a 3 mods talisman, I do not understand why as a third one it was chosen this protection modifier which basically does not do much.

If it was not there, hardly any player would notice it.......

Why not put, as a 3rd mod, something more usefull to players ?

Or, at the very least, if it was protection that sounded nice to give to players, why not protection against stuff that players actually hunt ?

You know, things like Dragons, Liches, Daemons, Peerless, Tokuno and Stygian Abyss stuff and so forth......

Really, who needs protection from brown bears, ice snakes, deers ????

last time i checked the protection mod it, only reduced melee damage not spell damage from the mob type.(was a few years ago when i checked)

I am pretty sure the protection mod works vs spell damage. One of my chars has a dread spider prot +54%, seems to work on the spells.

Also, simple ones like giant spider protection work on the named spideys. I think that is why the animals are on the list, to work against the named ML stuff.

My main chars are usually using the Totem of Void for the 10% LMC.

Yes.

And because it is random, when you come across a protection mod that is useful it makes the Totem a lot more valuable. But of course, the Totem is not desired for its protection mods...

Mine has crow protection which you can't take too lightly if you're essentially a walking corpse. Brother's has frightened orc protection which protects him from a type of orc that not only flees from you but is also extinct. Brother is a poet so the talisman only casts further doubt on his manliness.

Well as i said was awhile ago when i tested it, may have changed. but when i tested against ice fiends then(60% protection) it had no affect on spell damage
