You could argue my "mistake" was playing with the KR client, as i began dragging my gear into the bank I suddenly received an error, and when I restarted I had been killed at the Britain Bank...I was asked if I wanted to report the murder which I gladly did..."Under the protection of the town guards"...I don't even understand the point of putting this in the game.

And then I got rez killed 2x...and repeatedly taunted "COUNT ME OR I LOOT YOU"...to which I replied "I ALREADY DID"...at which point I was promptly dry looted.

Did I mention that since I was killed in 1 hit automatically I couldn't even say guards. I'm having trouble blaming this on a player taking advantage of poor game mechanics when it is really the developers that have done such a poor job...

The success or failure of a player in this game is still based upon the speed of their internet connection...and what client they run, because KR is a piece of buggy garbage that results in crashes that more often than not result in remarkably negative consequences for me. But wait, it actually gets better...someone will actually tell me they run the 2d client and have no problems...awesome, so if you want to succeed in this game you just have to use a 10 year old piece of software with a $60 dollar a month internet connection, and then you'll actually have a chance at grinding for many hours to be under-geared and out-manned in a "fair" fight against these savages.

I don't think I want to play here anymore.

It seemed cool that a player like Cash would be starting a "PVP school"...this seemed like a legitimate attempt to improve the quality of the player experience on the shard beyond the already overwhelming efforts of NEW.

Let me be honest though...I'm not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for engaging in competition for the sake of competition...

I'll tell you what I see...A bunch of Napoleonic idiots that camp outside our house and repeatedly victimize us. Is there really an expectation by these fringe players that this server will actually appear attractive to people paying $13 dollars a month for this game?

SP is a boat bailing water as fast as it can, and it's still sinking...I really liked the idea of reliving the good old days...but the only thing we're reliving here are the glory days of Krystal and Elvis taking advantage of helpless players.

I realize I went a little crazy when I was writing those posts...

Let me take a step back and include some fact based information for the players that have responded in very helpful ways already:

1) I saw Krystal earlier today before my connection went to shiz, I had 2 Bake Kitsunes out and was able to run away from her into the moongate and port before she could even attack me.

2) My client crashed and she killed me when my character was unattended and not even guarded by pets...understand that if I had tried to run and been bested, I'd probably be in much higher spirits...but she would have seen that my character wasn't even moving or attempting to fight and killed me anyway.

3) I'm a true newb to UO, I have 2 accounts (one I am working for my brother, this is the one I died on) and my first account which is actually guilded to NEW. I want to emphasize the fact that NEW is doing a fantastic job with all their efforts, but I am trying to decide for myself whether I have been kidding myself to believe this can really work out. I can't play a 10 year old game and pay for an expensive connection to be competitive, and I'm starting to worry that is the only way.

4) ^ - - kind of a side note to this, I work my gains to the max every day...I don't have a lot of time outside of work, but I find that 4 or more hours a day to max out...I thought I was doing pretty good, until today when I realized that the chances of being successful here may be a pipe dream.

Also Rico, I really appreciate that you would consider that kind of generosity, believe me, I know this is a server full of good folks, i'm just doubting the efficacy of a dev team that doesn't seem to have a good grasp on creating a usable product. I feel slighted every single time I crash, and it happens often.

With that said, it was medium intensity med-able LRC, one shopping spree at the Luna vendors and I will replace it in a snap...which I think everyone gets is the point...she looted me to hurt me, and no other reason. She looted me when I died D/C and couldn't defend myself. She looted me because she thought her precious count might not go up. It was despicable.

I applaud the effort to encourage new players here in every way, but answer me this, are good things really in store for a player that starts on siege tomorrow?

I hate to be the one to say it but we are all thinking it.

1) Krystal is trying to get the last 150 counts on 10,000 so she can move on in peace.

2)Cash's PvP school is a good idea, and will bring a lot for this shard for people like yourself.

3)Are you even in New?

4) If you can't handle being killed, Looted or res killed you really don't belong on Siege because it will happen 'at times' their are a lot of good people on Siege and I think that is the real reason we still play it.. and of course the pvp. It's tobad Siege has so little folks like Krystal left on the server, you will find about everyone you get to know friend or foe at first can become a good mate.

The additional challenge of SP is what would make someone return to this game...I don't get a thrill out of risking 3k in insurance money, perhaps what I am complaining about is also the reason I am here: the fact that it CAN happen.

But just because things COULD happen doesn't mean they DO or SHOULD, which is obviously the ethos by which most SP players stake their reputation. I see the buyback vendors, I understand that there is an unwritten law here. And there are also those that break that law.

You're right, it's something a player that is new here will need to get used to.

I make sure I never carry more than I can afford to lose, I'm not an idiot.

I came here to post for a reason, to find out why the "COUNT ME" business keeps happening. Now I know.

I've gotten grief from Krystal and Elvis with a NEW tag up all the same.

Tag or not, perhaps she suspected I was a new player as she plucked the MIGHTY +13% lower reagent cost tunic off my corpse, or the GODLY BRACELET OF PLUS 11 ANIMAL TAMING...

All kidding aside, I'm working my gains, I guess I'm just in the bitter barn tonight...I don't think dying once can really upset someone enough to cause them to leave siege or the game.

If they ask for counts, don't give it to them. I tend to think only blues should be given counts.. why stroke a reds ego? Whatever equipment you lost will happily be donated to you.

I've killed newbies, but I don't loot them and even give them advice after they res.

I'm not really one to take handouts, and farming the gold gives me something to keep me busy when my RoT is maxed out on the weekend anyway.

But I am in the process of bonding a Rune Beetle and a Bake Kitsune, and when they are done I'm pretty much at a total loss for what to do with them.

Since I've been away from the game for a long time I really don't have a good idea of where or what to hunt and would like an experienced tamer to actually "teach" me something I can solo at my skill level.

I still don't even have the 80 vet to rez my pets when they die since I've been working taming every chance I get, but when I do have it, I'm looking for someone to show me the ropes.

Teach a man to fish, am I right?

Well you can res your pet with only 70 Vet if you have enhanced bandages... Buy you a few just incase you need to res your pet and there is no tamer online.

And if you don't know what enhanced bandages do... they add +10 healing/vet to your skill... it does not show up on your uoassist or under you in game skills menu but you do get the bonus

You can normally get the bandages off of a player owned vendor if you do not have a Fountain of Life to make the bandages.

Sin, I won't go into particulars but on siege youhave the cream of the crop and you also have the group taht you wouldn't cross the street to pee on them if they were on fire.... so I understand the frustration but that behavior can happen alot. I was the same way. I did it all myself, although I did meet a thief someone to show me the ropes (and give me a burglar's bandana).

(Sadly ?) There are many, many tamers here. Luna bank is the most populated meeting spot. Once your beetle and bake are bonded and trained you'll be able to fend off the pathetic pkers.. the good ones will still get you though (but the ones I've seen don't usually dry loot players).

Just the other night 5-6 KoC got me in t2a and were kind enough to offer a res. f I said thanks and appreciated being able to make the treck out on horseback rather than as a ghost. Had I started mouthing off after they ressed me, I have no doubt a quick dirtnap would have and should have followed. Krystal's playstyle is very much old school UO and very much so has a place here. My whole point is y'all sure seem keen to jump on Krystal when it really looks like this guy maybe is not cut out for play here. What's he gonna do when he actually looses something that is worth a damn? His mentality is the same mentality that brought us trammel and insurance. If being killed, reskilled, and dry looted are enough to run you off the shard then good riddance; hell some of my best friendships in this game actually started with those things happening to me. Well for starters, there are no longer guards in Brit. Secondly, this is Siege. Every time I am killed I am dry looted. It has been this way since I started many years ago. Get with the program, get a guild/support, or get out. And finally, if you won't comply to a simple red's request to give a murder count, then I see no reason that any red should comply with your whine post.

Without Players like Krystal and other PKs, this is just an underpopulated slightly different version of Trammel.

Part of coming here is the risk of dieing around every corner, even in your house or Town if your not careful.

Does it suck to die on a new character that has virtually nothing? Yeah, but she tells you up front to give her a count and she wont loot or RK, that's a lot better then I and many others received when we started.
Start here expecting to die, and possibly die a lot.

Don't take every damn thing so personal, and learn to survive and play smart. Hook up with a Guild that will show you the ropes, and come to your aid when you need it.

And most important, learn when you should have a sense of humor and let something go instead of leaving 50 dead corpses on the ground for what? Pride..?

EDIT: I have to add a few more things, a lot of how someone reacts to you, determines how they will be treated.
More times then I can count TNT and its members have helped new blues and oranges, sometimes after they were killed and sometimes with no killing at all, it all depends on how they acted.
Ru and Myself found a brand new TB Orange in Serpents Hold this weekend, he looked afk and was in Newb cloths, we stealthed up to him and told him he should hide before someone kills him to see if he answered.
He responded and told us he was new and clicked some stone in Britain and got a robe, he had no idea what Factions was or what he was in for,or why we were orange to him.
We escorted him back to Brit base, showed him how to quit Factions, and gave him info to Siege Boards, told him of NEW, and STAR.
Many other times we have killed someone not knowing how new they were and rezzed and ended up giving them armor and Siege info, the ones that seem to have the right attitude get it and get a lot more in return.

Third, are the players here looking to bolster their rather anemic population or are they satisfied watching their numbers dwindle until there is simply nothing left? Raping a newb's corpse because they won't give you a murder count doesn't encourage players to retaliate or form alliances, it discourages them from giving this game or this server a fair shot.

No matter how you slice it the behavior is predatory. "Old school style" isn't an excuse for such a blatant disregard for all the effort going out on so many other levels to encourage people to play here...and frankly neither is this devil may care attitude the past few posters seem to embrace. "If you don't like it get out" just seems so counterproductive to the recruitment efforts of the people you share this server and this forum with. Are you sure that is the foot you want to put forward here?

Krystal role plays the evil part of Seige quite well, and thats is why we all came here. We wanted to go to a shard that had excitment and danger. She will not loot you if you give her a count. Plain and simple. You lost basically nothing and are whinning about dying. My vendor gets killed in front of my house loaded with inventory and looted with no hiding -stealth or wep skill. This is Seige! There will be people who lend a hand and people who will hunt you for being blue. Join a guild, work on your skills, but really--whinning about dying and getting looted on Seige???? rolleyes:

Krystal is Krystal, she's not the whole shard. For every one like her who'll dry loot your every worthless item, kill your pet and dump your stuff in its body, there are 10 or 20 who will give you a helping hand and set you up with better stuff.
We've all met Krystal, or someone very like her. Everyone here has been drylooted at some point. We accept it as part of Siege, those who are training to pvp eventually get their revenge. I plan my journeys to give me best chance of avoiding her, since I'm only a crafter.

You know krystal got me several times on my tamer when I had just returned to UO. I counted her, she ressed me and only took a couple jewels I had farmed. She even left a beetle loaded down with 60k gold and anohter 20 on my body. This was months before I joined TnT. This was on a char that she did not recognize as being "Tiberius". She was one of my few positive experiences upon returning to siege.

My 3rd day here a red named Wyrm (much worse then Krystal) killed me and screamed at me for being blue. The only thing that crossed my mind was training up my skills to extract revenge! Which happened 15 days later! The funny part of the story is just last week I actually purchased a Castle from the very same Wyrm that made my start on Siege difficult.

Play your game and let her play hers, don't judge, ya never know, in a year you may be buying Krystals Castle!!!

I assumed how you reacted based on your whiny post here and my own interaction with Krystal both as an enemy and a guildmate.

I am all for helping new players along and have done so many times myself since returning. Again, I question if you are cut out for siege because of the above statement. My attitude when she kept killing me was a good natured "I wont rest until that #$@% is running full tilt away from my ebolts". It motivated me to finish reworking my char, get better equipment, and start knocking the rust off my pvp skills. I am a siege vet though, started on day one. If you think what you got was bad then, son, you just have no clue.

Cordial relations with those that kill us seems to be a big part of siege. Most of LOW are ex-guildmates that I enjoyed playing with when they were with us. Most of JSV fall into the same boat. I have had nothing but positive business interactions with KoC and they have lately been showing a very postive attitude towards fostering somewhat more friendly pvp amount factioners. All of those groups have drylooted and res-killed me; If I got all buttsore about it, I would only be ruining my siege experience, not thiers. One thing you should learn about siege, no matter how each guild may actually spin it we all love poking fun at a good cry post such as yours.

Anyway, good luck. Train up your char and and start dishing more than you take.

Half of Krystals counts are from back when killing npcs gave murder counts, so her count is pointless anyways. Anyone that has played in the last two years knows how ineffective she has become. Shes going to armor ignore you twice, run out of mana, and then run away, mainly because she has no idea how to adapt to a new template that requires you hit more than three keys.

Well, if your spiffy $60.00 a month internet connection makes you wonder why you play or wish or hope to play a very old online game, like UO, hrmm. Spiffy connection or not, most just play UO cuz they still like UO, inspite of its' myriad of flaws and oft times lacking customer service. And they still play UO inspite of it's imperfections. So you will have to answer those sorts of ponderings yourself. Is there some other online game you would prefer MORE then play that. . if not, $60.00 connection per mo. or not, you may wish to try UO a bit longer still, on Siege or elsewhere shards if ya like UO then play UO.

That said though you will run into a *Krystal* on every shard /fel side.

She plays a murderer. That isn't gonna change ie her own playstyle is not gonna change into some *good* role. . she plays EVIL. Hell she has killed my own chrs. here numerous times when she was in VMP.

As for the *counts* one could look at it assorted ways. When one first gets here one could look at *giving a count* to any murderer here as some rite of passsage...they were here before you or any of us when we first get here, one could look at giving them a *count* as a form of *tribute* when one first gets here in a purely *roleplaying* stance.

Then after ya been here awhile, if they do not *entertain* ya enough as playing EVIL don't give em any count...afterall it is a GAME they playing EVIL they can be a bit more *entertaining* at it .. if not, NO COUNT. Tis a game afterall.

I myself never quite *get it* on utter drylooting simply cuz I see no need to take everyones everything but that is just me. Yet if you think of *EVIL* as buzzards over a corpse...buzzards sit over dead prey and forage everything so why should not purely evil ...do same things.. act as buzzards ie carnivors, over their prey ? Some will dryloot all the time or some of the time some will not dryloot ya ever. In due time though anyone playing here eventually has more gp in their banks, more items more property more than when they surely first came here and one can replace lots of things taken off ye corpse ...so drylooting by those few whom always dryloot others here, bugs ya less and less & in due time till it does not even bug ya at all 99.99% of the time.

Krystal plays a murderer, I play mostly crafters here, she is IN my alliance and I still HIDE from her LOL......... I just do not get too up close and cozy with her cuz in due time again probably some day .. she gonna kill my lil peeps, again again, cuz that is what she DOES. SHE IS *plays* pure EVIL !

But with RL or any online games, in general anything at all as we go thru this world this life, WE not others dictate our reactions to what happens to us or what others may do to or at us...if we let every one else's behaviors or playstyles OWN us...instead of US owning our reactions all the time or our emotions to others.......then it won't matter what game we play; if we let others rule over our own reactions, emotions, our own actions or our own will to stick around and play a game (our own way) wherever we wish to play a game any game, on any kind of ruleset.

Our reactions our are OWN or yeh we are then OWNED by others, IF we let their playstyle or their comments/behaviors own our reactions to them over us, for longer than a nanno second of our days. Do not let that happen to ya. Play where ya want, how you wish to play at/ in whatever game ya feel like blowing some rl jingle$ upon, for YOUR own entertainment, and where ya feel you want to be playing. :

Can't let other people determine the outcome of your own entertainment.
