I have been considering dusting off my old tamer, it's an old basic mage tamer temp.

I just read the thread about what pet to solo spawns with and found some interesting info ...

From it I am considering adding SW.

Out of curiosity what pet would be good for higher lvl boss/monsters such at Shadowguard and Exodus.

SW is a definite huge plus for tamers imo.

Exodus? I avoid it with a pet unless there is a heck of a crowd with me. Fight is too hard and too long for the small rewards he gives. The rest of the stuff the Cu is still among the easiest to keep alive in the higher end encounters imo, especially with sw on the char. Shadowguard is cake with it. But.. I worry more with survival than I do speed of kill when it comes to the instanced bosses. Only time I worry about fast kills is at Champ Spawns and I try to tailor make the pet for that specific spawn/boss to get in and out quick.

So if you had a SW 120 PS would you put it on a Cusidhe or L.Hiriu? and would yu give it AI also and a debuff if possible? Also is there for pets something that makes 120 SW more powerful casts? I know its not Eval, and Focus 120 is a boost to mystic pets not SW..Thanks for info. What are the advantages of SW pet?

Oh... I thought you meant SW on the tamer, not the pet... so if I had a 120sw I would let the character eat it lol. But, in full disclosure I am honestly not a fan of putting any additional magic on the pets yet. Their "ai" still needs a lot of work before I put that on them. They love to cast stupid spells back to back to back just to drain mana. So I choose the specials I like and let the mana fly on those alone to increase the output.

I am thinking of stoning music and peace and building SW on tamer prolly give him focus and so he will have some poweful spells also. The summon Reaper..does it take a slot or no? Thanks..

Ummm.. SW does not need the skill 'Focus' to increase the potency of spells, they need an Arcane Focus to do that. You stand on an Arcane Circle with 5 other people and get a level 6 which is the highest Focus you can get.. if you run the sw master each level of mastery counts towards one person..

The reaper does take slots.. been a while since I cast one but I am pretty sure it was a 5 slot deal.

I forgot about the circle .... not too sure if I could get a circle going, here.

What is SW like without doing a circle ?

What shard you on?

Higher arcane focus adds area to the area effect (full screen with a 6) as well as increasing the damage. WOD with a 6 you can hit them at about 40% of life left, with a 2 you have to wait until they are dang near redlined. So it matters a good bit imo.

So with lev III mastery that is max mastery "I think, you will get to focus of 4, then if 2 other pple give focus youll be at 6 max focus?
Reaper taking 5 slots kinda sad tho for a tamer specifically..

But taking 40% of rem life even if boss is at full life, you can recast it for another 40%, and again? for massive damage, right? that would be a ton of instant damages, one after the other. Unless it does not work this way..and the boss needs to be really low in life..?

Yeah that is how it works. I have level 3 Taming and a level 3 Spellweaving on my tamer. The only time I run the SW mastery is when I can not get 4 others to stand on the circle with me (on Atlantic that is usually the morning hours) the SW mastery does not really give much aid to a tamer other than the ability to easily get a level 6 Focus. I run the taming master 95% of the time.

Nah.. WOD only works when the critter is low on life. With a level 6 focus you can begin hitting the mob for massive damage when it gets to about 40% of it's life left (with a lot of sdi - 115ish - added you can get to the 750+ per hit range)... with a level two focus you can still the the 750 range with high sdi but you can only get that once the mob is at about 10% of it's life left.

Ty for info..By the way do you lose the high SW focus when you switch back to Taming mastery for the consume damage etc? Ty again..

Sigh... then will not develop the 120 SW scroll I have. I use Peace/Disco(stoned) 120 tamer that works just fine, when I want to farm mini bosses intensively I unstone the 120 disco and drastically cut down farming time. I think I will use my 120 SW scroll to a pet, in 4-6 months when all the dust settles. I wonder how much damage you do without SDI and SW with SW AOE spells like storm etc as a SW tamer, not as a pet though. I kind of like the idea of not depending on eval 120 to do damage..Thanks for info again..

ty for info..
If you have room on your template, you should try spell weaving. I dont have it but many tamers do and it works great for them. By the time the Sorcerers dungeon event is over, you will be at 120 and you can stone it if you dont like it.

I hate skilling or I would put it on.

My main character for Shadowguard is a tamer with the following skill set up:

120 Animal Taming
120 Animal Lore
120 Spellweaving
100 Magery (120 with ring)
100 Eval Intel (120 with talisman and spellbook)
_90 Veterinary
_70 Meditation (90 with ring and spellbook)

There are some useful jewels out there (Crystalline ring, Kotl Ring) and Talismans (Wizard's Curio, Bird Slayer talisman) where you can make up some skill points to fit nearly a full 7th skill. There are lots of Scrappers out there with 10-20 points of casting skills too.

Also, I use a level 3 taming mastery for the consume damage buff that essentially allows the pet to leach back physical damage as health. It's one of the most sought after masteries, so it won't be cheap to find... but it's very useful if you find it. Having taming and lore as natural 120 gives you low mana upkeep costs to maintain the buff.

Most definitely. This is without using legendary items..

Could do spellweaving on the character and discord on the pet. IMO this is more effective than discord on the character and spellweaving on the pet.
