To make suits a bit more customizable...

How about making it so suit resists stack with the resists from Magic Resist? It would make the skill a bit more popular and give people a reason to take it to higher than 40 magic resist? I just started working magic resist on a character for the first time and I think it would be a great idea. What does everyone else think?

Sorry I forgot to mention... Keep the current caps on resists. so all 70's or all 70's and 75 in energy if you are an elf.

that would be super, i can run with every arty in the game that has nice mods but crappy resists and still be at all 70s.

Bad idea... Would essentially make everyone running with resist able to wear 5-mod armor pieces all over, with only the Exceptional bonuses in resists.

On the other hand, if one allowed the following, it might be more balanced.

Have it to where Resist gives one of the following to its user:

1. Its current resist, if the person's normal resist is lower

2 - one of the following, if the armor is better than the skill-provided resist:
2.a. Either raise the person's resist caps by 10% of the Resist value from the skill (1-4%, and make it 5% at 120 skill), or
2.b. Have it add that 10% value as in 2.a. to their resists.
2.c. Both a. & b.

2.a. would probably be a little more useful (especially when one is dealing with magic that affects resist)
2.b. would make suits a little less resist dependent, or help fill holes in existing suits.
2.c. would probably give an unfair advantage to those already with 70/70/70/70/70(75) suits.

UM isnt imbuing just about the biggest shot in the arm to fully modding those little holes that need filling to make the most complete suit ever?

What about something along the lines of:

resist bonus = (resistcap - currentresist)/ 175 * skill?

- resistcap your cap on your resists (so usually 70 with exceptions for elves and stone form)
- currentresist is what you get from armor alone.
- skill is your resisting spells skill

So if your armor has 0 resists, you still get base 40 resists at 100 skill (48 at 120).

However, if your armor already had 50 resists, you'd get bumped up +11 to 61 at 100 skill (+13 to 63 resist at 120 skill),

If your armor already had 70 resists, you'd get nothing. Anything less than 70, you're just being bumped up a little closer to 70 without actually getting there.

(obviously this particular formula would break if you have a creature out there with greater than 175 resisting spells, so it might need to be dressed up with some limits on extreme cases)

Very interesting... I think I like it!

If someone is willing to invest the points in resisting spells they can and then not worry about their armor so much. I think this would be great for many role players as well as others.
