Tinkering Sound - Annoying

Ok, at some point someone on the Dev team decided to 'fix' the fact that tinker tools made no sound.

How did they fix it? By reusing the sound for an item dropping with the combat/swords sound combined together.

This makes no sense. Its stupid and I get annoyed everytime I tinker something. Why couldnt' you just resuse the sound for fletching. Thats simple and 'crafty' enough.

Instead when I tinker I think 'who is dropping something and what is attacking me' before I realize - 'oh, its the devs who broke our sound'.

Add it to the list of stuff to fix and mark it with an star to signify another item the dev team tried to 'fix' and broke worse. Put it right under the virtue decay rates.

yep, at this point im not sure they are capable of fixing anything, just making things worse.

the last patch causes the EC to CTD again.. the previous patch fixed it for me.
also i noticed since last patch my gpu usage is going through the roof.. 100% gpu usage when normally i get around 20-30%

i noticed this because my gpu fan is screaming at 100% after a short time of playing...

this doesnt even happen in mw3 on the highest setting :(

Wait...is the tinker change a feature, or a bug? I always thought it was a bug...lol I'm annoyed by it too, but if it's a feature I'd have to listen to it a different way, I guess.

Agreed, the tinker sound gives me a headache.

It is that particular sound I associate with the golem trainers in Luna and no small part of the reason I hate going there.

Are you using Pinco's UI?

I think he added that, so it should be possible to deactive that through the Ultima Online EC PlaySound program that is now running. Access it through the system tray.

The Devs added it several publishes ago, not Pinco.

Edit: The sound was added in with Pub. 71.

I guess I'm the only one who finds it somewhat amusing. Of course, it would probably get old fast if I was still training tinkering. :)

Honestly… I like the fact they added a sound so you know it's working and all… but not that sound. I agree fully. A funny springing sound would have worked far better. :mf_prop: Springs are more a tinkering then tinging swords.

Remember years ago, you would go to look Brigands of their weapons to smelt down (at least the theory of doing such a thing for a newbie)… and it sounded like a plant pot falling to the floor as the weapons broke just moving them? That was just silly. When that went away… I was sad. :sad3:

i just wish they would add some sort of range check in the EC on sounds..

it doesnt matter if someone is 1 tile or 10 tiles or upstairs in luna it still makes that noise..

it needs to go away after like 3 tiles..

Turning down the volume to zero will eliminate the bothersome sound of tinker-crafting. :)

They DID do this. In fact it was intended to be this way from the beginning, and only a bug that let you hear "distant" sounds. But people complained so much that they couldn't hear all the dungeon sounds, the bug was put back in.

The morale of the story is, be careful of what you complain about; you might just get what you asked for!
