In regards to the rune library idea. I been racking my brain on what to do with astys house that would be beneficial to the shard. Seeing as how its so close to the luna moongate Heavenless brought up a good idea. a rune library with no walls. So basicaly it would be wide open to let in pvp of course but we could make it a complete rune library. Now im not just talking towns book, dungeons book. Im talking even more in depth for example like goodmans library on atlantic. (located along north wall of makato) Here is a semi list of what im talking bout....

Mage shops
Tailor shops
Shrines
Quests
etc.

Im talking runes to anything and everything organized with deco for easy finding. What im wondering is if the two of you would like to create a group effort in setting up a very exclusive rune library for siege instead of having multiple ones.

If you two are interested ill be swapping the luna house to my 10 yr account so i can add a ankh and some other deco goodies.

What i will need help with is marking locations and gathering the books and feedback as to how to customize the house. I know with this many books i have in mind it may need to be two floors at least maybe with a basement for storage. If you two or anyone else on the shard is interested and willing to donate some time, materials, runebooks, runes, etc. Let me know please. I believe this to be a very great thing for the shard.

Aye i would never ask people to drop thier libraries and my reputation speaks for itself in the guarentee that the library would never be set private. What would be the point of having a private library of that extreme? Thats alot of work for just a handfull of people to use and that wouldnt make any sense at all.

But as a update! Yes the library will remain public
No there will never be anyone ever banned and if for some odd reason someone does get banned let me know and i will clear the ban list.

This library will hold multiple things in usefullness to the shard. First it will remain a dedication to Astynax and his memory on the shard
Second it will be a fully public building with access to the full library. Nobody will be left out of it.
Third This is being built for siege by the people of siege as a community thing.

In regards to the part where i spoke of one library instead of multiple that is due to another thread where me, kelmo, and tina all had ideas for a library, hence the original title of the post to kelmo and tina small. Also if you notice iin my original post it speaks to those two.

Let me think about it, Czarina. Having a few second thoughts about some things, mostly regarding PvPing and PKing. My goals on Siege are to do a lot of crafting and to use my tamer to gather resources for my crafter or to sell to others at a reasonable price. I'm not sure I want to get involved with or spend a lot of time on a project that may just lead to the senseless and repeated slaughter of the characters of others who have the same types of goals.

While I understand PvPing and PKing are enjoyable to some, neither is something I really enjoy participating in, especially as the victim most of the time. I understand it is going to happen occasionally but I won't be sticking around Siege for long if it's going to be an every day occurrence and happens to me irregardless of how hard I try to remain a neutral party and help anyone on the shard who needs help and no matter how much of my time I put into helping with guilding people into NEW and trying to get them off to a good start on Siege.

Finally have a greater dragon that's bonded and had hopes for being able to eventually go to some of the other parts of the shard and do some materials farming, hoping that I won't be PKd or stolen from virtually every time I set out. Not sure now that's going to happen and it's making me rethink spending any more time on Siege or on UO in general. I don't want to end up being someone who whines and cries and has a fit every time something goes wrong. But can't see the point of wasting my time hunting if someone else will end up with everything I gathered every time, especially if I helped it happen by providing runes to those hunting locations. Seems too much like just taking a shotgun and shooting yourself in the foot and then asking yourself why it happened. I'm not asking for anyone to give me anything on Siege. But I also don't want to spend most of my time and resources just trying to recover from being attacked and looted.

I'll get back to you about the rune library idea in a few days. I might just be having an off day and the safety of being in NEW lulled me into believing some things about Siege that just aren't true. I thought reputation and caring about others made a difference there. Not sure that's true. The honeymoon's over, I guess or I'm just in shock after being PKd twice yesterday while trying to help people and feeling bad that I maybe led to some other people, especially some people who just started out in NEW, losing out on EM items. If the situation had only affected me, I probably wouldn't have such mixed feelings about Siege today. But I think I did something that led to someone else having a very bad time yesterday and I'm feeling pretty bad about it. Dunno.

Thanks. I think I'm just having an off day. I personally didn't mind being PKd yesterday. It was pretty funny, in fact, when I realized my character had no pants or boots. But afterward I really felt like I'd led someone right into a trap full of thieves and PKers and that made me feel very very bad and is probably what's making me question if there's any point to even being there if I just make a mess of things for someone else. Trying to keep an "easy come, easy go" attitude about stuff, but that's just for me and my stuff. Can't really impose that on someone else. Did I make someone lose an EM item that they could have gotten if they'd waited a few more hours when things were quieter in the orc cave? Someone who will probably never have enough gold on Siege to try to purchase that item back from the thief or PK that got it? I'm having a really hard time with that idea and it's affecting everything else I think/feel about Siege at the moment.

Well I sorta like this idea but I'm also in the boat with Tina on some things I have no problem with PVP and such but I think if were gonna make a public library it should be in a safe spot... for those folks who do have a problem with being killed... also since most of us have no use for Luna... and I personaly have a huge problem with the existance of the place in general I'd just assume not have it there...

I do like the idea of a public library but id prefer we move community things to New Mag.... I realize that may not be the wish of everyone else... but I look at it form the days of yor when you could easily spent all day in guard zone doing things talking to people interacting and it was only when you left that you were truly at risk minus thieves... And I know I'm gonna get called a trammy for that but I prefer the term Townie... I've no problem leaving guard zones and making my self suseptable to these things but when I'm doing "My Thing" my self id like to have some back up in the form of the town guards... and regardless of where we put a rune library here if people wait and gate hop... they are likely gonna be out of the guards protection any how...

Really I don't see why we wouldn't put it in the guard zone so while people are Hunting up that rune in hundreds of books they don't also have to watch their backs... I know when I got rune books open digging for something the last thing I wanna do is be attacked...

I will however volunteer my services in helping to design the library where ever we put it be it actually building it my self or building it on TC for someone to copy so that people know what it is form outside and what not... and so that its easily use-able and organized...

You see... that one is now under my brand. I have that house (the historic Port of Umbra), the Umbra hub, the Cliff Allen memorial, a house dedicated to New for training, and am the custodian of an Abyss house.

*chuckles* Is it any wonder I have to store my private stuff in a castle...

I had wanted to discuss some options and share ideas with like minded folk... then it happened. M day. This weekend, we did a school tour of the restaurant for 60 kids, a charity event feeding over 750 folk to build tricycles for kids with physical challenges and then strait into mother's day... The busiest day of the year for our restaurant.

Needless to say, I am a wreck right now. My kitchen and myself have been pushed to near beyond my endurance.

I am not intending to whine (much), but I have been very busy. I will be in game a bit more and mindful of the posts here as well.

I tried to set up The Port for the exact purposes of which you speak. Aside from Runebooks, there was a full set of dyes tubs and dyes, boxes for training lockpicking, an ahnk for rezzing, a luck statue and a "give an item, take an item" donation chest. Maybe a couple of other services or items set up for public use. The runebooks may be a bit out of date. I left it in the hands of Kelmo. Obviously, he could do want he thinks is best for the items in The Port. Hopefully you guys can create a modern rune library and public facility for the Shard.

Tina, what you experienced IS how Siege works. Since I've been back, from what I see, Siege has gone very soft. People announcing in general chat where their hunting, where they are doing whatever, in the old days would have been an automatic death sentance. From what I see, all the pvp'ers have gone and you simply have a very few lone pk's left. Everything else is PVMers thinking they're in Tram but with a very slight risk.
The NEW tag has always afforded some protection but in an EM event with items...all bets are off.
I lost two pairs of event sandles last night...and the LRC suit you gave me but hey, that's Siege.
This isn't meant to be a "go back to Tram if you can't take it" post. It's just a heads up that while Siege is a lot softer than it used to be, there's still some rough spots and an EM event will definately bring out the killers.
I do hope you stay around as you're a very sweet person and an asset to the community...just be a bit more careful and definately keep any risky plans out of general chat

PS, Smurfy, I'd like to buy Po and Gabrielle's event sandles back tonight if possible please.

I also suggest ya take a look at the one library that is just due south of the Port of Umbra rune library too. I mention it because the person that designed the inside of it, made it appear that part of the first floor is two stories tall, with ladders going up to the upper *bookshelves* ! That library is owned by a GIL member.

You could borrow ideas from the Port of Umbra and the GIL rune library also by Umbra and make your place some cross of those combined with newer runes to new places etc. etc.

Ya may also wish to possibly add even more to it, in a totally historic perspective, add a corner or floor for player written books that go way back, assorted guilds that were here oft have had player written books too, and or also maybe add a section of.... players' gm marks no longer here, section. Especially with the advent of *display cases* which could be used to display items, even if in the *basement* like some items of gm marks of former and present players since also crafters too, made up a lot of what was Siege.

Turn the entire thing into one big honky rune library, history of people and guilds gone by of Siege via some player written books guild books etc., lending a perspective of Siege from maybe 99 to the present, so anyone newer coming here can get a more wholer completed historic picture, of Siege by touring the runelibrary/history of Siege, combo house.

True be harder to organise it but...if you want a challenge of what to do in a house, that ya don't know what do with it, besides just a rune library alone that be it ! Although ya may need some WALLS somewhere, even if totally public, or it all be even harder to customise it all, even if it is just a rune library.

So ya can think of a house ya don't know what all to do with it, as a rune library 'Smithsonian Institute' of Siege Perilous combo. With every IDOC we lose more and more of the history and the identity of whom and what Siege was all about as well as losing history of whom WAS here that also made Siege what it was. Be a shame to lose it all entirely thus, some combo that is a rune library and this house is whom and what we ARE AND WERE.. as Siege, would be a benefit to every one as well.

Been lookin for a (home) for my history of Iantown and VMP guild books anyhow so it too is an idea you can incorporate into a big honky new style rune library.

Well if it's a safe spot (or at least safer spot), that would help out. I have a New Mag. plot (SW4) I would give up to the Siege community. Of coarse this is of no help to making use of a Luna house. But none the less, I would give it up for the purpose of it helping the community. But if no response, I won't hold it forever either.

They cut my gear up (crappy at the time) and put the leather by my corpse. Offered a rez, I took it then killed me again. Hell, Wyrm would go into town, cast explosion, run off before timer hit and kill people inside luna. Those were the days!

Complaining about someone getting something stolen from them? Really? To make things worse, about 3 weeks ago some newbs announce they are doing a spawn in despise. Jackpot for me. I run down, stealth around, see who's there. Wait for 2 or 3 to show up and kill em all. One was in [New]. Did that bother me? Nope. One person complained and complained and complained that I had just killed him. I didn't even loot him! I think his name was guardianKK. He said he wasn't going to rez and get his loot... Then proceeded to tell me how I contribute to the degradation of Siege Perilous and that the shard is better without me and so on.

Bottom-line: The shard is soft. It has been for past 2 years. You better hope it never remotely resembles what is used to be. :/

I am not here to judge how moderation occurs on Siege Perilous forum.

I do judge how this game goes and how players play.

I am against any sort of in-game setup by players which is a sort of killing field.

There are enough of those already inside the game made by the developers!

This Tin solder knows how and why player behaviors has made Siege Perilous what it is today.
WyRm of Vmp and others played during the golden age of pvping, at the expense of all other strategies. Wanting nothing but pvping was an inbalance of play... Other players stop their activities which would allow this game continue...but, it easier to avoid the problem. The game allows players to gain use of Stealth. But, so many others chose to play elsewhere. Many people keep telling other players to go away. I told WyRm, his game is over with. Their prey is gone. Many now are avoiding the pvpers.
They were forced into this strategy.

The experiment about Stealth was a failure... without Stealth the advantage goes to the pvper. If any developers reading this, please leave this skill unchanged.

A central runebook library is your choice or not, but I still going to avoid it as a killing field.

I ask people to think about what you do! Play the game differently. Maybe the game will improve.

Anyone can place their own runebook library in front of their house and allow who they wish to its use. Try this instead.

I am not going to stop like-minded people to do what they want. Build what you will.

No matter what, this game will go on for me... I am not leaving.

The shard is what it is. I'm not asking for it to change. It's me that needs to change in order to be able to enjoy Siege for what it is. And at this point in my life, I don't think that's going to happen. Smurfy was stalking someone in NEW to steal a crystal ball of knowledge, something I donated several times to NEW. When I found out that instead of accepting a gift of one of the crystal balls or the items to get one himself, the person who plays Smurfy would rather just steal it from someone, I could just feel my blood pressure go sky high and I was rude to him in chat. That's not the way I want to play. So I'm done.

Siege can continue to be what Siege is, and Siege can even become a "hard" shard once again. At this point I just don't care because Siege clearly isn't for me. So y'all just go on doing what you do best and enjoy the heck out of it. I enjoyed the two months I played there that was obviously at a time when everyone had gone soft. I'll take away those memories and smile about them later. But for my own health, I'm not sticking around. I can't change how I feel about the PKing and thieving. It's always felt like griefing and even when I play on a shard where it's allowed, apparently it will always feel like griefing to me no matter how hard I try to wrap my mind around the fact that it's allowed and even encouraged. I can't change that part of my brain, I guess. Guess I spent too much time in Catholic schools and in a convent (yes, I was going to become a nun) having some stuff pounded into my head. Those nuns and priests did a good job jamming all that into my head and I don't think it's ever gonna come out now.

It is not their fault, nor is it mine. It is what it is.

You will see a lot of folks flailing about, looking for the Siege of old. They are too late. They missed that ride.

I started a simple community idea thread about a simple rune library and this thread turned into a "I hate siege" / Your a *insert repetative insult here* / blah blah bunch of dum incoherent babble! If you people want to argue about stupid stuff please keep it out of a simple yes or no thread. I read maybe 5 actual replies related to the topic.

This may just be the fact that i had two people quit at work today and had to pull a 20 hour shift without breaks or lunch and im tired and very irritated but take it as you will.

Smurfy was stalking someone in NEW to steal a crystal ball of knowledge, something I donated several times to NEW. When I found out that instead of accepting a gift of one of the crystal balls or the items to get one himself, the person who plays Smurfy would rather just steal it from someone

Think of it like this Tina;
Smurfy plays a thief.
Smurfy wants to get items by stealing them.
Allow Smurfy to play his role as thief, taking his risks along the way.
Give the NEW the knowledge ball you were going to give to Smurfy.

I love the idea of a good rune library in Luna, and making it pvp/pk friendly by having no walls and totally public is also fine. It's in the spirit of siege. Anyone who has a problem with being pk'd there really shouldn't be here, or should use a different rune library.

Better yet, sell pvp items there! Suits, bandies, apples, pots...

Tina I hope you stay. Don't let the PKs get you down. Good rule of thumb when your starting is not to carry around anything you can't lose. Personally, I keep xtra sets of armor back at the house and a huge stock of bandaids. In the end, its all just pixels.

Does NEW make you invulnerable, No. Do I dry loot NEW, no. Will I rob someone with valuable items if they are not my friend, with pleasure. Will I sell an item back for a cheap price if the mark is polite, usually.

Did I rob a NEW member? I have absolutely no idea, and honestly, I don't really care.

I think only one person is really upset with SMURFY. Siege as a whole doesn't give a whit about the matter, is my guess.

I remember once we threw a wedding on Siege, and one of the nicest gifts of the night was stolen. Whatever happened to Dave, I wonder...?

Anyone who wasn't down there at the time, and has never done thievery wouldn't know how hard it can be to do in such an active room, if any NEW was robbed during the initial giving out of sandals it was probably a mistake, we didn't have time to check names with so much movement. (Though I tried to avoid the few NEW I was aware of there) There were 35 people down there.

And Tina, don't worry, you didn't lead someone into something where they would have been safe had they waited, we were down there pretty much until server down (I left earlier due to network issues). A good number of people managed to sneak by or go in large enough groups to fend us off while grabbing theirs, but it was a blast down there all day. (We basically got zerg'd by GIL, and ended up having to back off for a few ). Still debating myself on how much of what I grabbed I should sell, I think i got 7 or 8 of the sandals...but I also got the EM's weapon, one of the kilts (already sold it to saint, he blessed it too ) and 3 EM cloaks, definitely going to keep one of each at least.

I think his name was guardianKK. Then proceeded to tell me how I contribute to the degradation of Siege Perilous and that the shard is better without me and so on.

Bottom-line: The shard is soft. It has been for past 2 years. You better hope it never remotely resembles what is used to be. :/

They were not account bound. That would suggest they are permanently linked to the account, which they are not.

Whilst it must be annoying for people to get an item stolen, I don't want Trammel influenced events here where there is no risk.

I'm glad we've had an event and I'm happy the EM accomodated thieves.

I picked up a couple of the Crude Orcish Kilts off the corpses and took the precaution of bringing a bag of sending. Whilst I'm happy for thieves to be involved, I'm not going to make it easy for them ^_^

I think some people are playing under a false sense of security and have to remember thieves WILL operate when the circumstances allow. And also, no one should expect to be 'respected' by the thieves community. I'm usually a nice guy (most of the time lol) and will help most people, but i do not expect any special treatment.
