the information here is mostly brainstorming and is now pretty dated..

SO, I got bored, and built the thunderdome:

I'd like to host a weekly mage duel tourney with a weekly prize. I would like to ask a small admission fee for both participants and spectators. The proceeds would be used to fund the entire process. i.e. building a better thunderdome, and more prizes.

I'd like it if Velv would report on it...

I'd like it if mages of all guilds would participate.

Of coarse, there would be some ground rules, i.e. no pots, petal, apples, alt. forms, etc..

If it really gets rolling, (monetarily) we could afford prizes for other fights. i.e. dexxer fights, team fights, tamer fights etc.

so can we discuss this? I'd like it if this got popular, I think it very well could attract new players to fel. topics of importance: the fees? the requirements and rules? the prizes?

For this next weekend (i think we should do it sunday evenings) the prize will be: a swamp tile! Im thinking more practical prizes like, barb kits, hammers, scrolls, etc. .

I was also thinking of adding an alter. On the alter, i would put a character statue of whoever is on top for more than five fights.. (tournaments, not fights, sry) maybe three? This way, everyone knows who runs barter town.. it will be a blank token until we have a champion.

Im thinking people are going to be like 'screw it, i wanna watch, but Im not payin my 10k or whatever. Ill just stand outside!'

so, my solution for that is that we will have a security goon squad to kill anyone trying to watch for free! (this will include people like samurai jack, baron, etc..) so the moral of the story is, play it safe, and pay your 10k.

anyone found interfering with the fights/fighting in the stands will be banned and killed.

(btw, 10k is just a number i threw out there, its up for discussion)

so now im looking for like. 'nitty gritty' stuff: more specific rules and such.. i.e. 'single click, then leave house' is an automatic disqualification. (TKO)

i know it sounds a bit scary for the everyday pvmer/trammie, but so long as you pay and take your seat, everything should be perfectly safe.

well, I would say, if the fight is 'no pots/supplies' using any such item is an automatic TKO, unless its sanctioned..

and YES the fights will be ref'd by none other than 'TINA TURNER'! and also commentated by velvathos and Master Blaster! (ill make a commentator/ref box and well get some communication crystals.)

mounted fights.. i hate foot fights.. mounts are so much more exciting.. with that said tho, bolas are NOT contraband items.. dismounts would be totally permissible... also awesome.

It would just be fun to hear velv say 'a STUNNING dismount!'

Interesting, here would be some rules to balance out things for PvP at the thunderdome.

We could have some enormous PvP tournaments there with prizes..

If you want to. Here are some rules we could follow for one of many tournaments we could have.

1. No mounts of course.
2. No magic jewellery, except pure Nightsight jewellery. Mages can use casting jewlry.
3. No Magic & Runic Items
4. Mages/Necromancers/Paladins are not allowed to use summons or area spells for aid in fighting. The only exceptions to this are Arch Cure, Wall of Stone and Energy Field.
5. Tamers are allowed to use up to two pets in RP PvP. The following are NOT allowed (this means both active use and passive use, such as guarding you while RPing): White Wyrm, Dragon, Drake, Nightmare, Fire Steed, Ki-rin, Unicorn, Bake Kitsune, Hiryu, Lesser Hiryu, and Rune Beetle.
6. Orcs may use Orc Bows, and Savages may use Tribal Spears.

7. Animal Forms

1. Giant Serpent and Bullfrog
Banned due to automatic poison attack.

Rules of Engagement

1. Make sure that any fallen players are resurrected and allowed to loot their bodies as soon as possible.
2. Before attacking any other character, make sure they are logged in, at their keyboard, and aware they are about to come under attack.

This is really all we would need, fights are more interesting and last longer when when they are balanced, we could do this using grouped fights like 3v3, 4v4, etc.. I always thought it would be fun to do skirmishes... Nice arena btw..

Although, the choice is yours on what rules to have in PvP.. I only came up with this... Maybe you should try to squeeze a small bar in it somewhere.

we could have all kinds of different fights..

mages should be separated into divisions.. like division 1 for the l33t. division two for the 'not so l33t'.

mage 1v1s
dexxer 1v1s
tamer 1v1s
mage and dexxer 2v2s
dexxer and dexxer 2v2s
mage and mage 2v2s

the reason i say divisions is that many people wont participate if they know they'll be dueling say.. pink for example..

however, winning your division tournament would bump you up into division 1. coming in last place in division one tournament would bump you down back to div. 2. etc.

im NOT keen on the no jewelry naked etc ideas.. while i think its okay for big showdowns like baron and nathan, to level the playing field, i want the thunderdome to be a venue for all pvpers and non pvpers alike. i want it to feel a lot like amateur racing.. whatever you bring on the field is fair game..

agreed, its not necessarily a contest of skill per se, more, a raw pvp venue.

while pots would be prohibited to an extent, i WOULD like to see some 'full template' events.

other event ideas:

2v1 (against a tamer and his pet)
3v3s of all types
capture the flag type scenarios. (more like soccer i guess)
mage vs greater dragon


It could be huge, velv, and i would LOVE your help, however, im just going to have to say no to the naked, orc bow etc stuff.. I don't want a watered down version of pvp. I want the real thing.

also, the 'division' thing should be discussed a little more. id like a system like amateur boxxing has, and thus the potential to climb the divisions to the top!

I think we need more divisions tho. Division one is people like: pink, cloud, sargon, snake, ice, shadow, bum, anubis, etc.

division two is people like me: presa, denwo, keldion, and the couple hundred other names that make up the bulk mass of each guild. (SON excluded, they're pretty much all div. 1, except for maybe that eksterminator guy.)

Division three would be the beginners class. Those players who are not actively in a pvp unit, but wish to test their skills, and perhaps, hone them, and learn by example. This class would pretty much include EVERYONE that doesn't regularly hang out in fel.

Coming in last place in your division does NOT put you at the top of the next division down. your actual win/loss record determines your position, and thus who you will be challenging. Hence, you and I will have to keep track of this stuff, velv. that is, if you're down.

See, i want this to be as inviting as possible to players of ALL skill level.

of coarse, the naked/rp style pvp could simply be yet another 'event'...

i keep trying to think of awesome 'deathmatch' style events but that scene from gladiator where they fight all the lions and centurions keeps popping in there.. either that or the part in star wars where luke has to fight that big monster at jabba the hutt's place. . .

something like that.. a pit of poisonfields and nature's furys perhaps??

It would be cool to setup a gambling system.. much like horse racing, we would need a bookie.. it would be a good way for the less experienced to not only engage and have fun, but to make a buck or two!

awesome! i am totally looking for volunteers to help. Im glad someones as stoked about it as I am. I just remodeled the dome a bit so the viewing area is a bit better, but frankly, we need a bigger dome. i want an 18x18.

I can't exactly COMMIT to running this thing EVERY weekend, so hopefully, we can get some help in that area as well.

heres what im thinking.

people should probably just decide which division they want to fight in when they register. The higher the division, the greater the loot, the higher the entry fee, the harder the pvp. everything is up for debate:

division 1: l33t pvpers : soulstone or runic ham? : 300k entry fee?
division 2: decent pvpers: 25 stat?: 200k entry fee?
division 3: beginning pvpers: barb kit? 100k entry?
division 4: the bunny class: soulstone frag 20k entry fee.

im not quite sure on how to do the ranking system.. I know i want a system in which it is possible to move up into a division by title fight, and moving down a division by loss. either way, i think i need your help on this one bal.
how does the ufc do it?

I keep thinking about all these different classes of fighters.. it just gets really complicated, so basically i think we should break it down pretty crudely:

ill have to put my foot down and just say flat out.. no tamers.. sry guys.. there'd be too many draw fights.

everyone else, i think we should split two ways,
mages, 4 divisions, and i mean ALL mages. the only req: must have mage and eval.

all others: yeah and i mean ALL others. probably just two divisions.

this means, with every tournament, we will be awarding 6 prizes for every division of fighters.

i think we should just pair everyone up and go from there. winner moves on, loser takes a seat. from there we will begin to have records for everyone and pairing them up for tourneys will be fairly self explanatory.

The betting thing, you can do what they do in CFC on GL, max bet 10k(can go higher if you like obviously), you win what you bet. Thats with the house, of course you can have inter player betting where someone offers odds but thats deemed a seperate betting entity(makes it easier on the organisers)and any disputes will end in ejection and death.

As well as tamers i think you should say no animal forms, dog dexxers with healing? PITA!!!

No stealth, no hiding/smokebombs, no disarm, and possibly depending on your rule set...no strangle, no nox skill.

in my opinion you should just schedule a tourny and see how it goes..have people icq you and pay you the entry fee before hand...draw up the tourny rules/brackets and post them..

i think everything your planning would be really cool but i think you should take it one step at a time. See how the first simple tourny turns out and add on slowly from there..

i would try to talk to the leader of each guild beforehand to make the thunderdome a neutral zone..all it is going to take is one upset/non participating guild to ruin all of this.. ive seen it happen multiple times in the past

mmkay, yeah that works perfectly for me. it would make for some long tournaments tho, which hey, im fine with.. frankly it would be nice to spend a day out of the week doing this and not running around yew NOT getting any action. its not like you have to watch every fight.. just respond to icq when you're fights up.

what i like about the dbl system is it gives everyone a chance to redeem themselves once. I think war is right, the thing to do is to just jump in and do one real simple like.

But for PVP, I think its a good match. The winner need to take 2 wins and the winner from the bottom/looser bracket needs to kill the top seed twice.

Its a good way to watch people adapt and change their styles in order to rank them as well.

The fight coordinator has to be quick and shuffle off the contestants as soon as they rezzed in order to get the next fight on the card underway. otherwise ppl get board and start spamming and then start flagging and brawling hehe... will need alot of bouncers to politely cyber escort people out the door. Mebbe could have a super thrilla in the chilla, like 3 v 3 teams of elite as a finale (somthin like that) mebbe 2 tamers vs a squad?

well, i started thinking about it, and it doesn't have to be an 'all out' tournament, where all the participators are present for the entire thing.
in fact, it doesn't have to have a specific time at all.

Heres what I think i simplest:

ill go ahead and make the brackets on that site, and then fill in the winner's bracket with contestents as they register. Once the brackets are filled up, the tournament will begin. The fights will simply take place when both fighters want. They negotiate their own time to fight with eachother and the ref/book keeper. It can be at any time, any day, so long as the time is agreed upon by all three, bets can be placed in advance.

The betting system should be much like poker. You'll need to match whatever bet is against yours. for example:

baron vs nathan. if someone bets a mil on baron, then three people need to match that bet at a mil. If baron wins, the one guy gets three mil, plus his 1mil back. If nate wins the three betters split the mil three ways, each receiving 333,333 gold + their original mil bet. (I TAKE the remaining gold coin! MINE!)

so on and so forth. The house (me) will NOT match your bet if i don't want to, so if nobody is betting against you, you can't win anything either way the fight turns out.

At this point, I think we are all ready to get fighters registered. I am going to go ahead and start a new thread to register. Lets try to keep discussions on this thread, and the other strictly for registration.

at first i was thinking verite hammer for div 1, 5 barb kits for div 2. but then, simon brought a good point. 'not everyone has crafters' so i dunno..

need help in that area i think.

Good point, but if they are in a guild, there is usually a crafter in there than can help them make some armor/weps. So in that sense, i think those are great rewards. Or perhaps provide a choice of reward, crafter and non crafter? value for value?

There is SO many ways to cheat this system.... In that house you macde, I can attack people with my archer/mmage/necro from outside, on the top two floors.

Second, it's easy for someone to heal/cast on someone dueling without anyone noticing... I would test EVERY detail of this whole house... OR use my house...

I'm guessing that we would just have people closely watching health bars to monitor this. I think it's fairly easy to tell the difference between a heal with band aids and a self heal. You'd also have people watching in each stand to pinpoint these problems. It's also pretty likely that no one would have thought of this if you hadn't said anything. I'm guessing that if people are caught cheating, they'll be thrown out and the match will be called off.
