I don't think that it is an example of bad customer service that you were blown off by a GM when asking whether it is acceptable to train your pet unattended.
"I can't help you with that" is probably invoked by a button in their queue management tool when they see something which obviously does not merit any attention, such as reiterating the exact text of the rules regarding players or pets being unattended.
I am glad they ignore frivolous pages.
For what it is worth, I have paged a half dozen times or so in the near twelve years I have played and every time, after a usually short delay, a GM appeared to me and provided assistance. Of course, these were legitimate problems regarding bugged characters or houses requiring intervention by root.
