Things I have learned in General Chat

I usually keep the general chat turned off as I do not want any distractions while hunting.Lately,though,I have been watching how people interact with each other.This brings me to the point of this post.As most know,the general chat is usually dominated by pvp'ers that talk trash back and forth,which is not a big deal,but in the "trash" I have formed a list of how pvp is today from simply watching what people say. So here it goes.


You are call a noob,among other things,in chat with CAPS LOCK turned on if:

You use smokebombs.(or use a stealther at all)
You use wolf form to run from a fight.
You disarm anyone.
You wait until you have even numbers to start fighting.
You refuse to leave your house when you are on the wrong end of a 6 vs.1.
You run from a fight that you are losing.
You dismount anyone.
You run into a house/GZ to avoid a gank.
You refuse to flag first.
You leave the battle when in stat loss.
You actually use the Bezerker armor.
You are a member of (fill in the blank) faction.​

I should keep general chat turned on more often. It can be entertaining.

Yeah I did leave out alot. Such as-If you win,you must be using alot of scripts/hacks/speeders.If you spam poison,you are not a real pvp'er. Oh and of course the best one I saw just tonite was one claiming that the shard "belonged to him" because he was successful in a few pvp fights.

Don't forget that you are also a noob if you do not do things on your list, as well as if you do them.

Also, everyone cheats save the individual making the accusation.

Also every playstyle other than PvP is stupid.

Also, no one ever loses. If for some reason they do, the loss doesn't count.

In other words one can learn the same things from Global Chat that one can learn by reading the message boards.

You may find this stuff entertaining, I do not, and nor, it seems, do most of the players who, in large part because of this stuff, refuse to go anywhere near Fel.

During the testing, instead of one General channel, there was a General-Trammel (default) and a General-Felucca. This way when folks smack talked in the General-Trammel channel, which as stated was the default, you could tell them they were in the Trammel channel. While this wouldn't prevent them from staying there and harassing, during testing it appeared as though the embarrassment of being associated with Trammel made them leave.

That should again be the setup. General-Trammel which is the default, and General-Felucca as a separate, inherent channel.

Those of you who find it entertaining can follow them there and watch to your heart's content. And the rest of us can arrange Corgul hunts and Ilsh Spawns and conduct commerce and in general use global chat for the purposes it appears to have been designed for.

Or rather than creating 2 channels for general chat ,just trun it off and leave them to the company of themselves and eventually they will get bored not having an audience and go quitely insane.

Miss the actual legitimate uses of the system.

Better yet we can make our own channel so that way the chat of general interest will be segregated and the chat of particular interest can be in the general, default channel.

However, in the 15 minutes that I did have it on, I learned that the average UO player's mother is quite promiscuous and seems to know quite a few other UO players besides her son or daughter.

General chat can be useful, though. I do keep it on most of the time and try to ignore the more offensive chatter that seems to come with the territory.

I have always tried to do a bit of ego deflating but then again that is normally reserved for folks complaining about how bad chesy is. Of course I have been trying to spend more time in help lately.

well i know for a fact that the mothers of players in the faction i fight against are infact quite promiscuious... there daughters too for that matter.

You have to take into account stat loss here. The player or players at the wrong end of a beating have time on their hands for 20 minutes. No better way to fill that time than with insults, cries of hacks, zergs, gimp templates and the like.

You will also see players called out for 1 v 1's that never materialize as they are sure to end in a gank.

Forget about Chivalry (im talking about the notion not the skill) in UO pvp. it never existed.

Very rare do you get complimented on a good fight. most times people call foul. Its just the nature of the beast.

On the other side consider the UO pvp community to be quite small as many guys now fight on multiple shards. Also over the course of time many guys have played together as well as against. That being known, if a certain individual is known to rage when things are not going his way, he will surely be egged on through the use of taunts and anything else.

The worst part of the gen chat is the lack of following information about these mothers like Pics, size and phone numbers....sigh. Really at the end of the day what good is a MMORPG if you can't shag someones mom?

I see "good fight" all the time after fights. Usually it is after 1 guild wins the fight 18 V 5. Then they say good fight, just to rub salt in the wound.

Personally I am almost always in Gen Chat.

I start off my day by giving the PvP noobs a bunch of grief about their childish chat...

Then I start in on the constant spammers trying to sell their junk spamming about the same 3 items day in day out for a full week... I tell them to get over it and get a freaking vendor like the rest of the community.

I do go and help with a circle often when they need 2 4 a 6 in Brit.

I also enjoy knowing when there is a corgul run as I'll usually if I don't have anything else going on hop on and tag along.

I totally ignore the spouting about this or that guild is at this or that Champ so please come and get ganked by them because several of them are bored because no one will come to fel.

I also tend to ignore the cries about who did what to whom.

I will however take the time to report those who try to spam about illegal websites selling things. Or I often take the time to report folk for using vulgar language after I've warned them once or twice to stop it.

Few less punks the better.

I also try to answer all the questions I can about how to do things in game...

I also can occasionally be persuaded if the offer is good enough to part with some of my hoard. Sometimes just so I can get someone to quit spamming about wanting to buy something. But it's got to be made worth my while.

Picture them as a bunch of 9 year olds in the playground. Because that's exactly what they sound like.

They swear a lot, because of course using bad language is a sign of maturity isn't it?
They throw around a lot of 'my dad's bigger than your dad' type threats.

I wonder if they would persist if they realised how childish they sound?

I tend to tune in to the help channel, it's a little more constructive on most shards.

And I will be the first to admit that on occasion, after my 3rd or 4th Ketel on the rocks I am pretty damn good at acting like a petulant 12 year old.

General Chat = the BEST addition to this game previous to the Shame/Dungeon revamp(s). Keep it Coming!

A bit of an update from what I saw last nite. It seems that one player was upset at another and one insult that was said in Gen chat went something like "...you pay for UO with a welfare check and it is sad."

Players have the ability to ignore other players in Global Chat, this ignore affects Global chat only.

You missed the entire basis of the thread. "Things I have learned in General Chat." It's more to share what has been learned for fun not to complain.

Hmmm, great idea that needs to be redone imo. Too many things these days are limited to the lowest common demonator and made "kid" or "bleeding heart" safe. It would be nice to have a place where thick skinned adults could go to discuss topics, jokes etc.

Whoever makes their living from Stratics pay attention here. I would even go so far as to allowing you to charge my debit card $5 as a one time age verification fee to get into an unmoderated forum like that

Unmoderated? No thanks. The old Stratics OT was moderated lightly but there were still rules that had to be followed.

And yeah, "the policy" is also different now, rules are enforced across the board.

I have learned:

That many of the players use a lot of female body parts as words intended as insults.

This leaves me very confused as either:
A.) They are in fact Gay, as they keep calling each other.
B.) They hate woman, and are going to come to a day when they finally come out of the closet and admit this to themselves. (Psychology tells me this is very common for men to do in late life)
C.) They will be abusive or violent with their female partners if they are acting heterosexual due to the repressed anger towards women. (Crime statistics and psychology tell me this is also common)
D.) They are lying about all the times they have been with each others mothers, since their deep hatred of women would not allow them to engage in such activity.

I am also confused when I see the people in chat talking about PvP sitting at the Luna bank.....while talking about Felucca and PvP????
