Thief Template help ?

How would such a template do ?

120 Stealing
100 Snooping
100 Hiding
120 Stealth
120 Ninjutsu

That makes it up for 560 points. So, there is room for 160 more points.

How to fill these 160 points ?

The template would need some Magery I guess or at least some chivalry to recall....

Unfortunately, there is no room for a weapon skill and tactics not to mention lack of self healing.....

So, how to fill in this template to make it some fun ?

you can free up alot of points with items. if you dide burglar bandana, shadow dancer legs, cloak of silence or oak left cloak, and skill + jewls you can free up about 100 points or so.

Then you can chose how you want to play it from there. go with thug thief/ tamer thief/ mage thief/ ninja thief/ anything.

All you need is Chivalry for healing, curing, and recall. Magery is a big waste if you don't make room for eval int (unless you're on Siege).

With just 50 Chivalry you can heal, cure, and recall efficiently. Maybe 60. Chivalry also doesn't require you to carry regs which is a big plus.

You can also stealth around perfectly well at 80 stealth if you use the Shadow Legs to boost it to 100. Also if you use those leggings you can free up 20 more points for stealing.

You might be able to fit in a weapons skill with poisoning or tactics with better arranging.

I'd take magery over chivalry any day.

Just run with incomplete LRC (20% from an onry or whatever) and stock up on arcane boots, robes, and cloaks. You're not casting spells every waking minute.

Magery you get everything you'd get from chiv (recall, heal, cure) but you get a lot of other spells that have their uses: mark, dispel field, energy field, gate travel, teleport, resurrection, and some others. Mind blast and summon demons to drop someone with HP regen and day dreaming (poison won't do it, I've tried). Most importantly, you get invisibility. Find a blue without detect or any other way to reveal hidden players? Snoop, steal, and cast invis. Just stand there and cast it. Usually, they're too slow and there's nothing they can do about it.

So you have to buy some arcane every once in a while, who cares? It doesn't effect the rest of your suit.

The only problem with that on prodo shards is that you're either going to be stealthed or in a ninja form like 95% of the time. So most of the time you're not able to cast, which makes chiv cheaper(template wise).

Since your Karma is way down from stealing, Chiv can be dicey.

True that. But it doesn't cause much problem for the simple spells that I only used it for. Simple ones being sacred journey, heal, and cure.

The reason that I chose magery over chivalry was for the "mark" spell. If I was running around fel for an hour to find someone and suddenly stumbled across a bot rail, I wanted to be able to mark the location without having to run back there on another character.

just run with 64 magery. 100% recall and circle 4 and below, and just use scrolls for the higher circle spells. only need a handful of marks and invis (100% success with scroll) or gate travels (70% success), though i guess you'll need some +magery items for summons or ressurrections, like a +magery spellbook (need to get around 84 for reliable 8th circle success, and 78 for 100% 7th circle success). 66 magery and a +12 magery spellbook would give 100% success for circle 5, if you like incognito or don't want to fail 7th circle scrolls. mindblast will be weak though.

or you can get like 30 magery and use cheapo +magery items, along with arcane items. with cloak, robe, and boots, that's around 60-72 charges, enough for most escapades.

though you'll need an scribe buddy for this to work reliably, just bulk purchase the most commonly used utility scrolls like mark, invis, gate travel, etc. it's not like you need to run with more than a few of these at any given time.

higher stealth usually means a higher chance of not getting revealed. 75-80 stealth is kinda dicey if you're trying to sneak up on someone without getting auto-revealed on prodo shards. though it's still kinda annoying that at 120 stealth you're revealed as often as you are.

I know that higher stealth makes detect hidden less effective against you, but I'm not sure about passive reveal. I thought that passive reveal had the same chance of revealing at 120 stealth as at 75 stealth.

Regardless, passive reveal is a thief's worst enemy. It is much better to shadowjump to your mark. If your PvP thief has ninjitsu and is still stealthing straight up to your target, you're doing it wrong. Atlantic thieves are horrible about this, which is why they spend so much time dead.

Here's how I steal:

1) Open mark's paperdoll
2) Double click pack
3) Shadow jump to mark
4) Last object macro (opens pack)
5) Use item (dagger) macro and target the item I want to steal
6) Use steal + last target macro
7) Wolf form macro, run until you have a chance to stealth away

Shadowjump is your friend, thieves. Use it.

I decided not to use shadowjump long ago. I figured if thieves in the "old days" were able to steal something and then run away on foot; well then, so can I.

You left out the part where you decide what to steal...seems like it should go somewhere between 4 and 5.

/sarcasm :D (I couldn't resist)

On prodo, there's rarely more than one worthwhile item to steal. *insurance sigh* :(

Pfffttt.....
You must be looking around Yew gate.

Maybe you should join us at a spawn sometime. We could always use another body to trip over :D

Or if you're feeling really frisky.... in Luna

Lol...(jk...)

I figure I'm bound to get lucky one of these days and find someone who forgot to insure their new suit/wep/rare.
And there are always pots and stuff... another nice thing about being a thief is it's very nearly a requirement to p*ss people off while you're conducting "business" :D

Anyways..
I'll get on UO sometime and take a look at my gimpy thief char...

My main went red, so I took magery and med off one of my other chars and put it on my thief. I think I have almost 750 skill points used (obviously counting leggings, bandana, imbued jewls, etc).
It'd work okay for pvm when I get my eval up... I have like 30 pts in healing for some reason, magic resist.. possibly a few in arms lore from when I was trying to get str up.
