The no names victims thread...

Please do not post names, specifics or anything...I thought it might be interesting to see the statistics, although I realize they will not necessarily be representative of the population at large.

This does not really apply to normal randomly encountered kill/loot/thieving game mechanics, but this is subjective. The purpose is not to argue whether or not pre-arranged trades that one party ends up with both payment and items afterward fall into the category of a "scam" but rather to summarize user experiences.

Well, if the person felt victimized, then it is covered under "other".

As a side note, the poll would have been structured better if I could have had 2 radio button (single choice) questions, with the multiple choice options grouped under the choice where they applied:

Option 1 - I consider myself a victim from the following (choose all that apply)
□ I purchased an account from another player and it was later accessed without my permission
□ My secure, private house was looted - a bug/exploit is either suspected or known to be involved
□ My secure, private house was looted via normal access obtained via a traded or compromised account
□ My character lost items directly as the result of a game bug/exploit used by another player
□ My character did not receive what was expected in a trade, and the other party would not make good
□ I lost items/payment directly to the other party following a pre-arranged trade
□ I had another experience where I felt like a "victim" not described here

Option 2:
No victim here - I've just experienced normal game mechanics, some of which are negative

I didn't see an obvious way to make that happen though, I could just be a poll n00b.

I clicked on *another* experience where one feels very much like the victim.

It was on Chesapeake, so called trusted friend stole everything out of my vendor homes that were in chests for everyone in there to USE not take out and loot us all of. Everything was gone, tons of hides, tons of cloth, dye tubs in chests *the spare extras*, all ingots, all wood, everything wiped clean taken by one of us friended to that guild vendor run home. We ALL donated into to those particular guildmates friends chests, we all were able to use everything in them to run our vendor guild shop operation.

It was some years ago, and about the only time I felt like quitting UO, cuz broken trust of a UO friend some 4 yrs. long, despite all the stuff taken is hard to overcome.

What kept me remaining was that I posted the vendor home was closing down cuz myself and everyone in it no longer had any resources to use to make diddly...and there were so many on Chessie whom came by that donated tons of stuff to replace all we had stolen from us, that it was overwhelming...the amt. of decent folks far out weighed one ahole. It kinda did the heart a miracle for all of us in that shop and guild to see so many others, respond in kindness to one jerks stupid actions.

Friendships and long earned trusts unbroken, are worth more than STUFF some folks just never fathom that concept...their loss they usually end up any shards lepers after pullin stunts like robbing their own guild guild house and friends !

To this day I have ZERO tolerance for folks whom rip off their own guild houses friends and so forth...and we all LIVE and LEARN ! I barely set my chests to even my own ALTS since that time let alone anyone else not on my accts. live and learn !

As for accts. bought though...best to to that trade via EA and even there the original owner can try to come back into it all one day, if you do not change every bit of info. when you take over or possess said acct. ..even there BUYER BEWARE !

I never sell my accts. I close em down if they go inactive, and I never BUY any either even via EA itself.

Ive been playing SP for about ten years plus...with a break every so often....

I have never had any account hacked. There are a bunch of great people who I have trusted with my account info and never did anything to take, hack or screw up any of my stuff

Only problem is that EA told me I can't report my own spouse as the hacker so I guess I am just SOL!



PS Dano don't worry we all know how anal someone is about "where" everything goes in his houses, just look at all the labeled containers.

Wrong , i never share my info. I just didn't put my cc info in and buy new time.After I did that the account was never accessed again. Also called
EA on the phone and put in a secret password that way it can't be called in to take it back too.

99.9% of hacking UO accounts is sharing info, buying and selling accounts with out securing.

Never ever share info. If you do... Do not be suprized when your stuff is gone.

I have broken this rule... It could happen any day. The moment you trust some one with your info. you give it away.

About buying and selling... If you trade accounts like it is nothing... Well, then that is what you get.

Unless you do what is needed, it is not your account.

If you do not do all of the extras.,.. Pay EA to make sure it is yours.

I never will understand this selling and bying accounts. I had never sold any of my accounts and I will never buy any accounts.

I do have an account I shared with a few trusted players, when I was running NEW, before we could make co-guildleaders in the guild system but that account is not in use now. The accounts I'm using, only I know login name and password for and they are on an email only used this accounts.

Using same email on forums as you use for your accounts are a big risk as someone may get to know the email and guess the password for it.

If you buy or sell an account, use EA's account transfer program. This way you will be safe and noone can call you a hacker if account get sold more times and someone hack it.

I know Soulweaver and others do trade alot of accounts. I had had a few members in TDO who changes accounts very offen and did not feel safe with that. There would always be a chance, that one of this accounts got hacked and GH and other houses the account was friended to got looted.

Many of this accounts had been traded several times, so any of this previous owners could be the hacker of the account. I would be very scared to buy an account that had been traded alot of times. If you have to buy an account, buy it from someone you trust and who is the first owner of an account, don't buy any of this multi owner accounts, some of them may even be hacked/stolen accounts.
