The Next Expansion "A new beginning"

I recently read a post about economy issues among other issues facing UO today.

I'm not certain if this is even possible but I'm hoping it is. Technology has progressed over the last 13 years.

I'm hoping the Devs will create a new land that is interconnected with every other shard. So essentially I will be able moongate from Atlantic Shard to this new land back and forth but not be able to go to other shards when I return (only my home shard). All shards will have same access to a single new land. This new land will have a new form of money. All insurance and trade will be in new money. Gold will be like carrying silver coins in this new land. Only useful for a few things. Everyone starts with 0 of the new money. Everyone's equipment and everything else will still be there. We will just need to work hard for our new money. If we want a home in the new land, we will have to use new money to buy it. Exchange rates of gold will be based on player economy but hording of gold will be useless unless you plan to only stay in your shard and not the new Global Shard with all the new goodies and challenges.

I like this idea but here's my take on it: the new currency just becomes a new commodity. It will be farmed and simply has value in the current currency. It would become no different than wood, ingots, or regs. But I agree, that sounds like a really cool idea, would certainly be a really nice marketplace for ideas and community building!

- No he doesn't, you didn't appreciate the spirit of his post. Instead, your indignation at his name fueled a bias. Re-read his post and consider his proposal in-itself.

It would be a decision that has to be made. Keep the longevity of the game along with new players added or simply maintain what is going on here. Most shards are dying. No more subscriptions should worry them more.

If this was possible, it would be a scripters paradise as they could do their resource thing on low-populated shards and easily move items between shards without paying for shard transfer tokens, saving them a lot of money, and losing EA a lot of money.

They would definitely love it, as they could have a smaller inventory since they wouldn't have to have stuff stored across a lot of shards, which would reduce the amount of scripting time needed as well as lower their profile. They could probably even close a few of the scripting accounts as well.

I can't even imagine what kind of impact this would have on the game, reducing the need for a lot of scripting accounts and allowing the gold sellers/scripters to have easy access to all shards without paying for transfer tokens.

Well ultimately, it's about money for EA and players happy with subscribing. Maybe it's a dead issue and they will just do everything to squeeze every cent until there's not enough subscribers to maintain daily costs. I can hope for a way to see all the shards playing together in a busy shard like the old days. Hard to see subscriptions maintain when a person logs on and sees no one on. Try logging on all the shards and checking out hotspots. Not so hot on most shards.

Need to find a way to make everyone happy. Based on past history, we can't expect UO to have the manpower to stop all the cheaters. It simply doesn't make enough. I wouldn't be surprised if we had only 40,000 or less subscribers now.

And this would not work for the simple reason, there would be nothing but farmers for coin to sell for real money.

That meens the price of gold would go up if you could change it into the new form, even if it was 1 mill gold = 1K Brits..

Ummm are you missing the fact that a lot of people have two accounts or friends who would quite happily create another character on another shard and meet in the middle and xfer goods?

It will never happen, UO is stuck with what it has..only need ways to improve it to get new people to play..

Iam not for a general shard gate, but maybe worldwide instances like the Stygian Dragon or other peerless mobs or new ones, a shardwide PvP arena cool.

Character copy works so good, that i would say it should be possible in the near future.

If they wanted to go after the gold sellers/search sites, they could shut them down in a day or two. They know about the scripters and sellers. Many of us have reported the scripters time and again only to see nothing happen. We all see the Tims and Bobs and the like walking around Luna, Zento, and now New Magincia, and they have been reported.

EA does not care, or they value the accounts too much to ban them.

EA should just update the TOS and say that scripting is allowed.
