Interesting. The Carp one is very useful.

Does the carpentry bench impact enhancing wood weapons at all?

:/ looks like it's just crafting from notes, not enhancing :( ... I misread that, haha. still sorta useful I guess for making some of the items though.

If it boosts carpentry past 100 it'll effect enhancing, if it doesn't it wont. So I'm curious about this too...

Unless its changed, It gives +5 carpentry, But if your GM you don't get 105 carpentry, only a normal/exceptional bonus increase.

Rechargeable Housing Teleport Tiles

Consists of 2 linked teleport tiles with 5 charges that allow you to link houses and teleport across facets. You are able to recharge these tiles with gate scrolls, each gate scroll recharges the tile with 5 charges. The max number of Gate scrolls the teleport can hold at any given time is 200.

So I take it these can be recharged unlimited number of times.

I submitted a question about this to the Ask the Devs forum a few days ago. Their answer will impact whether I will buy it or not.

Its pretty sad that the pen is currently not rechargeable. Having to buy a new one every time is a bit moneysucking.

I bought a woodworker's bench, but was taken by surprise by the fact that it won't take you over 100 Carpentry (which is amazing, IMO, since Talismans and ASHes will take you over 100). There is supposedly a 5% "success" bonus and a 3% "exceptional" bonus, but all I really care about is enhancing. If it turns out that it doesn't affect enhancing it will be a TOTAL RIP OFF!

I have mine currently available to the public at Lord Escu Museum in Chessy Luna, but I'll definitely redeed and sell it if it has no effect on enhancing. I've also asked a question regarding this item in Dev's Forum... let's hope it gets answered soon!

Just throwing an idea out there...

Anyone else think that it's entirely possible that UO might follow Dungeons & Dragons online's example?

Could the continued release of items for real $$$ be a way for EA/Mythic to dip their toes in the water, to see the potential of making the game subscription free for the most part, with only a small percentage of it subscription based and main revenue coming from the sale of items?

Since Dungeons & Dragons went down this route, it's interesting to see that apparently, revenue has increased, more people are playing the game, whilst subscriptions (those paying monthly) has also increased hugely.

If this is the path UO is heading, which is entirely open to debate, one can't ignore the mostly posative impact it seems to have had with Dungeons & Dragons. Add to that, the huge popularity of other games which are free to play, but also generate revenue from selling items in their game stores.

So, anyone think this is likely? Might it be possible, that the bulk of the prodo shards could become subscription free, paid for by micro-sales of items, whilst a potential classic shard would likely remain subscription based, given anything pre-AoS would mean items are of much lesser importance?

Food for thought...

It might be a way to go, though it is EA.
They have a new mmo comming out next year and expect more than a million new customers. You can be glad if a GM then actually knows what UO is. :p

So I doubt they invest much time into UO and just go the way most mmos start to go with a monthly fee + extra items available from shops.

Wont be suprisied. I had a few junior high kiddies in a internet cafe telling me World of Warcraft is the Mother of All MMORPG.

However at the Internet Cafe I went to in Tokyo 2 years ago... UO is teh HOT **** over there. They actually got their own official oversize posters and stuff about Ultima Online (exclusively to Japanese players)... the artwork doesnt even look identical to Classic graphics tho.

Sigh

It all depends how Ea wants to position itself for the mmo market.

SOE does it with their station pass and lots of mmos, keeping also the less successful mmos alive

I just cannot see EA going that way, so I guess they keep UO open as long as gives enough money and cut back when it does not, or does not fit into their schedule.

If SOE is the retirement home for mmos, EA is the cemetary for any slacking ones.

:p

I wonder how players in Japan like the EC versus 2D.

When I was there there wasnt EC, it was KR and as far as I recall I didnt see anyone playing on KR. They have different sections there. Shooters section, MMORPG section, Video Chat section and PC/Comic section.

And yes when those two WoW kiddies told me the mother of mmorpg is wow, I really had a strong urge to say "omfg you little newbs learn2usegoogle and learn2play a real game"
