The mystery of the Trammel to Fel "glitch"

You know, when you are in Trammel and you hear that mysterious sound and the lands turn to Fel, with tombstones and brambles and leafless trees.

Some time ago, someone posted that they were having this problem. And they mentioned that they had been in Covetous Dungeon. That made me think, because I've had this problem at times over the years, and it seems to me that I've always been in Covetous before it happened too.

Then yesterday, due to the post about the numbers in Covetous (the 3-4-1-5 numbers), I took my stealther there to look around yet again. And lo and behold, I started having this issue again. Remembering what the other poster had said back then, I decided to get on a different character and see if he also experienced this. It didn't happen. I jumped back and forth, and it only happened to the one character that had been in Covetous.

However, that character had also been to Fel earlier, and had handled a bunch of Small Blackrock pieces ( the reason I went to Fel, to collect some).

So I'm wondering what others have experienced, and if this isn't a glitch after all.

I've always known it to happen if you'd been to Felucca recently, Blackrock isn't involved.

Well, I was in Fel yesterday with the second character to mark some runes, and that character did not have this happen. I only tested the 2 characters, but it was the one that was in Covetous that had this. And it happened as I switched characters several times, to the one that went to Covetous, not the other, both having been to Fel.

It takes some time to happen, about 5 minutes it seems.

Ok, here's the rundown of activity, because this could go either way.

I took one character to Fel to mark runes. I used a Rune Library in Tram, recalled to cities, moved to locations I wanted (not far, different spots), cast Mark, recalled back to the Rune Library in Tram. Rinse and repeat several times.

The other character, I went to Fel to get some Blackrock off the ground near mountains. Spent about 15-20 minutes moving along, and did cross a server line. Later went to Covetous, went through the entire dungeon, spent quite a bit of time there. This is the character that had the Tram to Fel thing happen in Trammel. So it could be that this character, having spent more time in Fel, and also having crossed a server line in Fel (on foot), was affected with a glitch/bug.

But it didn't happen to my other character, same account. Several log ins switching back and forth. It doesn't make sense that the glitch only happened to one character, unless that character was solely glitched. On the other hand, the glitch has that music to it (same as what you got using the old Moonstone means to go between facets when that used to be in-game).

I'll do more testing. If I do the exact same thing with 2 characters, same account, with the exception of going to Covetous, we'll see what happens.
I'm mainly curious if others have had Covetous involved in this experience.

Well, that's what I'm looking for. A definitive "I wasn't in Covetous and it still happened." (And I just tossed in the Blackrock because I handled it, on a wild off chance.)

So, it seems that crossing a server line in Fel, then going back to Tram, is the cause.

Sadly not the mystery I was hoping for. But no big deal.

The sad thing about this post is there is no bug where you end up in felucca randomly. Desolation suddenly switches on while in trammel and it gets the desolation look.

This has been going on since trammel was introduced. There is a way to fix it by simply removing desolation. Don't remember how as I never did it though. Someone will reveal how in this thread though. Eventually.

I imagine it would have been fixed rather snappy if you did end up in Felucca.

I sometimes get this when im banking in WBB tram after i been to fel. no idea of cause.

Vyal, I didn't go into Covetous (or any dungeon) in Fel, only Trammel.

It still happens when a champ is being done. Could have just been random luck you went into tram and someone was doing a champ in fel. Or maybe it's the Ish champ spawn in the Twisted Wield that does it.

Yesterday I recalled to my Trammel house but ended up at the same location in Felucca. No idea what happened. I recalled again and I landed where expected.

Are you running anyother programs with UO?

Does not happen all the time but I have had this happen a couple of times when using UOAM with UOAssist and the Clasic Client (even before EC came out). Do not use the EC or UOCart so do not know about them.

I have never used UO-Assist or UOAM, and used to have this problem when I played the 2D or the old 3D client. I can't remember ever seeing it since I went to the KR and later the SA/EC client.

I was using the Classic Client. No other programs, no UOA, did have the stratics site up, though.

But it has to be character related, somehow. Because I was switching back and forth (logging out and in) between the 2 and it happened every time with the one, and not at all with the other. Same account, not running 2 accounts together.

So it seems to me that something has to happen to attach to the character to cause this, or to allow for further things to set it off. And from my actions I listed above, it seems like crossing a sever line in Fel might be it.

By the way, I crossed a server line in Trammel with the character that it did NOT happen to, just to be noted.

Edit to add: But then, I've read people saying they hadn't been to Fel, and it happened to them. Maybe it's just certain server lines (Fel or Trammel)?

This happens to me anytime I visit Fel and return to Trammel.....

What's REALLY interesting is it also happens on occasion after visiting Tokuno.

It's not as noticeable but if you look at the grasses they change as does the music in the background. It isn't just a Tram/Fel thing.

I wonder if it happens when going to Ter Mur and Illshenar too... but likely that's not quite as noticeable.

I've had it happen on all of my characters at some point or another... It's affected me in Trammel, Tokuno, Malas and I believe Ilshenar once too. I have yet to see it happen in Ter Mur though.

I tend to spend a fair bit of time in Fel (two of my ships are on Fel waters). It seems kind of random though.

I have had it happen over the past 5 years, while I'm in Zento, on a crafter that has NEVER gone to Fel.

I have also had it happen while in Tram, on characters that do go to FEL.

I play the 2d client.
I run UOA and UOAM and usually have Vent on at the same time.

Happens to me all the time, for awhile I mistakenly thought it was Necromancy because I didn't recall it happening before Age of Shadows. I then realized however that I mainly played on Siege Perilous without a trammel before then so it does probably date back to UO:R and never got fixed.

I'll add my voice to the 'had it happen and haven't been in Covetous' folks.

And I'll add this rather odd happening from a coupla weeks ago.

I went to Fel to fish. Took my boat, plonked it into the water, did the fishing, caught what I was after, dry docked the ship and recalled to the Fishers Co-op, outside of Yew, in Trammel. This is my fishers house, it's where she lives and it's the default rune in her book. It was, therefore, a tad disconcerting to end up in the same spot, but in Fel. I recalled to Haven, then tried again, ended up outside the same spot in Fel. Did that half a dozen times, then changed the default rune on my book to my mains house, in Malas, recalled there, then put the default back to normal, and ended up where I wanted to be in Tram.

I've come to the conclusion that these little bugs and quirks are what makes UO one of the more interesting games out there. Although I am not going to complain if they're ever fixed!
