The mistery of Dispel Evil

I've finally found how it works.

I've tried against everything and seems doesnt work, but today I've decided to give it more tries...
It seems work against the bane chosen but not against a mongbat, then here is why:
it works only against murders (red name creatures).

Is it intended or is a bug?

Years ago, Dispel Evil "turned" monster spawn (kinda like the old Dungeons and Dragons Paladin ability "Turn Undead").

After we all got used to that, they suddenly changed it to how it was intended to be: A karma-based, limited range Mass Dispel.

A little after that, unbeknownst to me and as pointed out to me by other posters here (I forget who) they started to let a little of the original, but not intended, use slip in.

Some here suggested, and I think they are right, that Dispel Evil successfully turns any kind of invasion spawn considerably better than normal spawn.

I don't think those Virtuebane guards are red (are they?), but I can turn them.

The bottom line is...This is one of those things in UO that we simply have no idea how it's supposed to work, and an unclear idea of how it works in actual fact.

And trying to streamline it may well simply break something else.

virtuebane are all reds, it works only on red npcs and as dispel. The strange things are the fact that do not work on gray monsters... is a nonsense :D

only had 1 coffee thus far, but are y'all saying you can hit Bane w/ dispel and they go poof?

no.
I'm speaking about the flee ability of the spell.
Only red npcs are affected.

The dispel ability is not in discussion, it works as always...

Ah, but it wasn't always!

Remember for a few years after AoS came out, Dispel Evil would turn everything but wouldn't dispel anything, not even a Revenant.

thanks, I was confusing the Chivalry dispel evil w/ Mage's dispel.
The one on weapons is the Mage one I take it
So the Chivalry one actually acts like a "repel"? Does it drop the aggro also?

nope, they just flee then they come back after few seconds based on your karma...
Just to clarify Dispel Evil do:

- Dispel summoned creatures
- Make flee monsters around you

The question is if it's right that it make to flee only the red monsters instead of every kind of monsters.

"cause other evil creatures to flee from combat" - like what?
I didn't see a good/evil in the monster attributes, only +/- Karma related. In D&D we had alignments like that
I think it should apply to anything that would normally aggro you

Hmm, have you tried Enemy of One and then using Dispel Evil on that enemy? That'd be particularly nice.

the creature start to run away from you scared to death at paragon speed :D

The description says:

Attempts to dispel evil summoned creatures and cause other evil creatures to flee from combat.
In uo good/evil is determined by karma, so all creatures with karma less than 0 should be affected....

yes, I tried and still working only on red creatures :(

Dispel Evil mostly the only thing I use it for is to rid me of the Revenants.
