The Lady and the One

Alira Drakrul

Seasoned Veteran
Stratics Veteran
He laid down in the grass and watched her ride off on her black beast. He snorted into the blades of grass as his massive head came to rest on his paws. He was annoyed.

Alira touched his troubled mind, "W'at troubles my wolf?"

"This pack should work together with the other pack."

"It is naut always as easy as sayin' they should, " Alira spoke softly in his thoughts.

He could hear her approaching. His tufted ear swiveled towards the sound of footsteps as he looked out into the forests of central Moonglow. The door open and Alira stepped onto the porch of the community center. She looks down at Dar'eka for a long moment. He snorted into the grass with a heavy sigh of his barrel chest. "Complicated," his mind stated.

She could feel his frustration burn in her mind. She reached up and removed her glasses, tucking them the satchel at her side. She looked down at him with those eternal pale blue orbs. The blue of the undrinkable water reflected by the great blue above. "Oh my dearest wolf..." she said with the weary exasperation of an overtaxed mother. She lowered herself to sit upon the cobblestone path. She pulled her legs to one side and smoothed her dress to cover them. He whined and raised his head and looked over his shoulder at her. She opened her arms as if invitation. He didn't wait and he pushed his forepaws against the ground to turn his bulk. He then flopped his head solidly into her lap as the rest of his body thudded against the earth. She rested one hand on his thickly-furred shoulder and the other slid along his muzzle and his cheek. "I know this world is difficult f'ye, " she said aloud as she petted his face.

He inhaled deeply, lifting her small hand on his shoulder as his chest rose. He exhaled as dramatically, his warm breath brushing against the fabric of her dress. "You lead. One follows. " his thoughts spoke. "This other pack is not like ours."

She smiled down at him for a brief moment and leaned back against the strong door of the community center as she looked out into the forest. "It isn't, " she again said aloud.

"The other alpha pancake doesn't like you here." his golden eyes looked up at her before closing to the gentle strokes of her hand on his face.

"I donnae' she likes much o' anythin'..." Alira quietly thought.

"She likes the one that smells of paper. "

"The one who smells of paper isn't alpha." The massive black wolf lazily picked up a paw and rested it next to his head on her lap. He lifted his head and chewed briefly on his paw. "One better nay 'ave fleas."

His amusement chased away the frustration in his mind, "If One does, One will drown them in the warm water of the den. "

Alira stopped petting him for a moment and looked down at him, smirking. "One shall most certainly naut do this. " her mind touched him. He opened his mouth and took her stalled hand delicately in his powerful teeth. He pulled with the gentleness of a pup and then released. She resumed her petting at his askance and he closed his eyes again.

"One would not bite the alpha. You would taste terrible... like a deer left in the snow over winter. " He opened his mouth in almost a grin.

She shoved him slightly on the shoulder at his teasing. He growled playfully as she retorted silently, "An' one acts like a fireside dog who has gotten fat on his master's leftovers." With a heavy sigh on her lap, he rolled himself onto his back with four legs bent in the air. His strong lungs took a full breath of air and his chest rose as if to imitate the full belly her mind spoke of. Upside down, his eyes were hidden by the the cloth they now pressed against. His mouth was open slightly almost resembling a grin. She laughed softly, "Oh my wolf..." He rolled back to his side being very careful to not snag the delicate fabric of her dress in his canines. He lifted the uppermost of those golden eyes to look upon her face. She looked down at him and smiled gently.

"The pack needs to hunt again. One misses the alpha hunting alongside on moonlit nights even if alpha's form is hideous." His excitement at hunting was palatable.

"The alpha has been very busy..." Alira attempted to parley an excuse.

"Two legged stuff... " he snorted into her mind.

"Naut just two legged business. "

"Dead ones business... "

"Naut just that either. What I do is t'help secure a place for our pack and pups."

"I miss new ones. I miss pups. " he closed that golden eyes and shifted his body a bit as if uncomfortable.

"Ye have a pup t'at ye should be teaching."

"The pup has fangs. It bares them regularly. " Dar'eka thought as his throat whined softly.

She stroked his fur with a light hand as she reassured him silently, "She is human. Mortal. She thinks still as such as one of them. She doesn't see in the world with the same eyes as we. " She softly patted her fleshy cheek and he raised his head as if on cue. He rolled himself onto his stomach and then stretching onto his feet. Then he sidestepped alongside and squared himself off as if to steady himself. Alira reached out grabbing a fistful of his dark fur. She steadied herself against her living anchor point as she lifted herself to her feet, smoothing her dress. He was massive standing next to her diminutive, delicate frame. Her hand was still buried into his fur as they both looked to the east and the sky as it began to pale.

"It comes, Lady. " his mind whispered as his throat whined. "We must go."

The made their way quickly down the road to the Haven in silence. Her hand upon his back. They stepped into the protected interior as the first sliver of the blazing orb broke the sea's horizon. They moved past the guard's chambers and into Alira's personal chamber.

As the concealed door closed, Dar'eka stood by it, listening for any sign of them being followed. Alira undressed without even a flicker of self-consciousness or embarrassment at the wolf's presence. She set her clothing and armor on a shelf above a set of wooden chests. In the evening when she woke, the armor will have been cleaned, dried and oiled to keep is supple texture. The dress would be cleaned and returned for the next time she chose to wear it.

Dar'eka as if satisfied at their solitude, made his way to a large rug in the center of the room. Alira climbed onto the bed, not bothering with an covers as she rolled over to look at the large black wolf. He sat down and then lowered himself onto his belly. "I will be here when the golden orb drops again... "

Alira shifted uncomfortably as the dawn's approach weighed heavily upon her. "One is grateful f'yer protection..." Alira spoke aloud. She closed her eyes as her breathing stopped. Her body became cool and still like an alabaster statue as it lay upon the large bed. All signs of life that she worked so hard to maintain faded as she slipped into torpor.

"One will not fail... " The garou placed his head onto his forepaws and watched as her skin became pale. He closed his amber eyes to sleep as the world outside began to wake with the dawn of a new day.
