Thought I'd post a poll to see what the average age of a UO Player is!

I'd guess it's probably a little bit older than the age of some of the other modern MMO's out there!

UO came out before many moderm MMO Players were even born!

I'm turning 30 next month. Let the poll begin!

Women do not tell their age.... but it's right about there with Hellstorm.

I started playing UO just after UO:R. And fell in love with it. I just can't stop playing.

And I'm a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).

UO is great stress relief.

I will leave my age up to you to figure out. Jimmy rocked the house at "Woodstock". My first computer was a C-64 for $499. Retired from the USNavy in 93. Read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings when they was a big push on them when Tolken died in 73. Yes I am old as dirt and some even say I helped Noah build the Ark. Started playing UO in 98 and haven't stopped once.

I always joke with my kids, that when God said...let there be light,
I was there to flip on all the light switches. LOL

My SON got me into UO.
He was in the US Navy at the time,
and figured UO would be a good way for us to hang out
when he was far far away.
His chrs. on his orig. acct. *now mine since 99* have very unique names,
that look like US Navy tours of duty,
each chrs. names are named after parts of the world, he ended up in.

He bought me my first computer win 95, taught me how to use it, when he came home on leave. Why he made my first ever UO chr. a feisty lil warrior, and named her Queen Zen. He said she is sooo YOU momma all zenyish and kinda regal, but fiesty with a bow. LOL

The lost lands were my first *expansion* and my son and I hung out in Delucia after it came into the UO world.

He was my first UO mentor. Unfortunately he did NOT teach his sisters the same way he taught me how to play UO.

Nay...he deliberately neglected to tell them a *blue cow* in Delucia or anywhere might be a tamed one, his sisters went to up their skillz killing cattle in Delucia back then and both my girls in game, were immediately guardwhacked to death.

THEY NEVER CAME BACK TO UO sayin UO was way too violent ! LOL

My kids are 30s somethings. Thus I am um a lot OLDER in rl.
But I would NOT be in UO had it not been for one US NAVY fellow,
whom thought it be neat to hang out with his own mother
who he knew missed seeing him, so he fixed it so, we got to hang out
in an online game called Ultima ONline, whenever he was far far out to sea !
But thanks to my son buyin me my first ever computer, I WAS able to claim my 'ima old soc. security bennies' on my newer puters, this yr. lol

He left UO for forever when they created trammel and he got married. hehe
Momma is no longer number 1 with him, she is but she is cutie & I like her.
I took over his acct. and made his orig chr. the GM of our/my guild,
& cuz HIS old acct. is a full yr. older beta UO, than my own first UO acct.
1998ish for my oldest UO acct that isn't his, but yeh Ima still here.

Interesting poll

I just turned 40 back in August. In the other game I play people call me Grandma..here I feel like a youngster! It's funny to see how different games attract different people.

In the other game, I hear *OMG YOU'RE OLD ENOUGH TO BE MY MOM!* VERY often lol.

UO is not just a game...it's a lifestyle (Does that sound pathetic or poetic?) lol

For a very busy single mother of 2, I don't have time to play as often as I'd like. My account *would* be 8 years old had I not left for a few years. Not as long as some of you have been playing but still quite awhile.

I've seen a number of these polls over the years. I think the first time the highest numbers were between 20 and 40.

I do sometimes wonder how many of us are playing because we were dragged into it by our children. Terry and I certainly were. They've moved on, but we're still here

Well according to this, stratics is a very mature and evenly spread playerbase. This should highly influence the devs response to us (I hope), in time...

Certainly makes a few sparks when you consider the fact we are being forced to be a PG-13 game... and yes... we are being forced (or those of us that wish for a more immersive roleplay and hit a few walls)

Lord Frodo, by the passion in your replies to me... I tought you were young and full of cunning ; may your heart always remain young.

So even if I'm not a "player" per say... I'm 29

P.S.- can you be under 12 years old and subscribe to stratics forums ?

They have moved on, got a life and we are still here, cuz, without them underfoot, we can now play UO as long as we want, by ourselves now, per day. LOL

Almost like they pre planned our *retirement* years :whip:
by draggin us into UO, and *modern tech. back then* in the first place. haha

My girls are now more into bleh...facebook.
Even our son was into facebook but since left that too,
but the kids just can't seem to perk my interest at all,
into bothering to log into facebook every day LIKE THEY DO,
nor perma texting on our cellphones day in day out,
like THEY DO nowadays. bleh. BORING !
I have facebook acct. {cuz of my kids}
I almost bother to look at it 4 x a year *seasonally*
then go
GAH I do not see the reason for this bs and log out..and back into UO.

Least I can die from a dragon, or go fishin' IN UO,
not so on facebooks pages or silly *texting* on cellphones
like my kids all do NOW instead ! BLEH BORING !

I was TEXTED the scores of the Packer game all day Sunday,
as if I could not SEE the scores on ESPN or FOX etc.
while they aired NON Packer games,
but kids felt they had to text me the scores,
per kid per score all day sunday,
on me cell phone they about drove me NUTS !

like um spare me the texts ya janglin me nerves with the cell ringin
every score at me x 3 kids doing it as a favor ? for me cuz ima Packer fan.

BTW I DO NOT PLAY UO
whenever tv bothers to actually AIR
a Packer game, on tv, shown down here.
Some things, do top playin UO ! LOL

Welp, let's add to that ...

I was in High School when Kennedy was shot. I was in the Air Force when we landed on the moon. I played Ultima and other games on an Atari 800. At that time I was on CompuServe at a whopping 1200 baud and paying $25/hour for the privilege (plus ISP costs).

I am still in the work force altho retirement is not too far off. I am in the 55+ range ... but that's all the help you get.

Welp, let's add to that ...

Well, that helps to pin it down a little. Kennedy was assassinated in November of 1963, the same year I graduated from high school (in June 1963 at age 17), and I just turned 66.

OK My bad, should have done my homework. Guess when Tolken died in 73 they had a big push and they made it look as if these were brand new and if you looked at the publish date, they were. Got the books from a friend while out at sea sailing around the big blue duck pond. With the exception of FIRST CAME OUT the rest is all good. Jimmy was great at WOODSTOCK (1969) , even though I was not of adult age at that time.

Also my son got me hooked on UO and like many others he moved on to other thing but by then I was hooked.

57 years young but the toll from RL it sometimes feals like 84 years old.

I'd like to see a follow-up poll of age versus play styles. The age-old wisdom says that PK's are younger folks, but not sure that's true in UO any more.

How would you construct a valid poll with these categories?

Age versus PvP/PvM

100% PvM

33 here. ( I should show this poll to my Mom because she always tells my husband (34)and I "Aren't ya'll too old to still be playing that game.") I started playing on my husband's account (boyfriend back then) back in 98. I got my own account a little later and we would stay up all night and play UO together instead of talking for hours on a phone.

We now have two kids and our 7 year old wants to play. My husband lets him "play" (basically walks around and gets killed by forest monsters. His favorite is the "land wiches".) one of his characters once in a while and he gets very excited. He wants his own charater when he gets old enough.

Oops... the poll is off slightly, due to my mistake (blame it on old age?). When I first voted I thought we were supposed to guess what we thought the average age range was, rather than input our own age. So please deduct one vote from the 40-42 range and transfer it to the 55+. Sorry about that.

I can still remember one of the first *red* pks I met in UO back in the day.

He was at that time rl older than I was.

He used to joke that he oft got stuck baby sitting his grandchildren,
he let them play UO to kinda occupy them. He had 2 computers one for him, and one for the grandkids.

And when they misbehaved for him in the rl world
he would PK em in game !

LOL

OVER and over again he would pk em
instead of giving em a time out, or some spanking !



That guy was like 8 yrs OLDER, than me !

And I ain't no 'spring chicken' no more either. lol

So not sure AGE is reflective on whom may be a *PK* in UO either,
a few of them reds may just be old grandpas pkin their own grand kids
to show em who is boss,
when they act bratty on em ! LOL

My daughter. I was at her house and she and her hubby had computers in the same room. She asked if I wanted to play, I said yes, I was hooked.

Gone through different phases where my main playstyle changed

2003-2006: Dexxer (and a T-Hunter Dexxer at that!)
2007-2008: crafter
2009-2010: Tamer/Bard
2011: Mage/Fisher

Now shifting back to an even mix of these, since most of my skills on all 4 categories are done (concentrated on one area while training up, almost to the exclusion of the others)

You're forgiven. It was late when I voted and most of my brain cells were in sleep mode, hence I voted wrong. Don't forget, if you tally this up for an average and want it to be accurate, delete my incorrect vote in the 40-42 range and move it to the 55+.

I am somewhat surprised the average age of players is higher than I thought given some of the posts here and the behaviour in game.

Me? I'm 26 and been playing since I was about 15
