The "heat" of battle while dead?

come on really, I'm not exactly in the heat of battle when I am dead.

I could not find the specific rules for this, but it is fairly ridiculous.

If you are trying to go through a Gate it makes perfect sense, one you could be stalking the people who you were just fighting with while dead. You could be fighting at a moongate such as yew and just want to pop through to get an instant rez and restock at luna. Could most likely think of other reasons. I guess it is sort of a ridiculous rule but it still makes sense.

From the list of many little annoying things in UO that could use some fixing. This and that message you get when trying to go through a gate as a ghost: "You're too busy to do this right now," could use some fixing.

But yes, being dead should remove the heat of battle status.

I have been saying for years that all battle flags should be dropped the minute you die. At least for going through public gates.

I completely concur. The one exception would be the criminal status.

Exactly. Which criminal status is a completely different flag then something battle related.

If you could run through a gate and rez right after dying it would change the way people currently pvp at gates but I can't see it being a negative change. The gate pvp scenes are usually pretty trashy anyhow. If you really want some good pvp experience go fight over scrolls at a champ or something.

I agree, once you're dead you're out of the battle for that 'life', so your status shouldn't carry over.

There are more issues with gates than anything else, it really could use some looking into....Private moongates for example if you cast them on a space that has a 1 z axis, why can you not walk through them? you have to walk up the 1 z axis anyway -.-. And not being able to go through a gate right after casting it because your of your spirit? I understand if you are jumping through a ton of gates (not sure what kind of circumstances would allow for this anyway but meh) gates are just all messy :p

isn't that the truth. I know why we have "lack cohesion", duping etc, but when you get the cohesion message upon entering your first gate, it's kinda dumb.

Its almost as bad as the flagging system. There are many times that I am not the aggressor and yet if I die, I'm in heat of battle.... and no, i have no reflect phy armor on. This happens a lot and its very frustrating.
Imagine arriving at Yew gate, take 10 steps outa guard zone and get jumped by 5 people. You head back to gate as a ghost and low and behold you are in flee of battle even though you didn't cast a single spell.... go figure or par for the course.

It's just one of many stupid little things they put in the game that no one ever asked for.

I do wonder how stuff like that gets put in the game, don't they all have meetings to decide how to change the game? I've tried to imagining what the meetings would be like, I assume something like...


[bob] I have an idea! Let's make recall and gate spells not work in Fel dungeons so that NO ONE will EVER go in them and we will have these big empty useless dungeons!

[fred] Great idea bob! I have one too, How about not letting players use recall or gate spells during fights even if they are ghosts or several screens away from the person they were fighting!

[tom] Woohoo wonderful idea fred, I have one too! Players are having too much fun with the provocation skill, let's make it useless so they won't use it anymore!


I'm not even doing that as a joke, I seriously wonder why junk like that is put into this game...I even remember the "noto patch"...what were they thinking with that?

It was like,

[UO dev team] Ok PKing has become a problem so heres the solution, lets make it to where EVERYONE can kill a certain number of players every day and stay blue, this will definitely fix our rampant PK problem!

Sounds to me like they suffer from the debilitating and painful "CRIS" - Cranial Rectal Insertion Syndrome :p
From what I hear it can be fatal... you slowly lose your eyesight, then your hearing until eventually you suffocate.

.....When the no recalling was put into place there were more people in the fel dungeons than ever, well not than ever but since uo:r or so. You can only not recall or gate if you attack someone, it makes sense. If you attack someone and find you more than likely should not have done it as they are going to be the winner, why allow you to escape?

I got nothing on the provo skill, but I'm sure it makes sense also.

Hmm noto patch.... O.K. that was probably not the best idea ever but no worse than the one before that lmfao.
