The Grand Exchange

I recently been playing a game some of you may know of called Runescape. They have this system called the grand exchange where players go to buy/sell their items.

I think TSO or for you newbs EALand could really benifit from this. Players put items they want to buy or sell to an NPC and if someone searches for it they could buy it right away.

Downside. It might kill the stores...

I beleave that WOW and runscape has that but if they were to add something like that to TSO, then it would take the fun out of shoping...lol

Not necessarily.

Dofus also has a system like that, as well as individual merchant bags (mini-offline stores), and people will shop thru the bags, the NPC's and over an in game trade channel, to buy items one to one with other players.

It enhances both sales and shopping, and I have thought we needed something like it for a while now.

This would be what the auction would be like, the only difference is that there is a time limit and ppl would put in bids and after the time is up the highest bidder gets it.

My son also plays that runescape game and loves that they have that in it and it works so well. I agree, we can use something like this in the game. lets hope that the devs see this and try something like it
good thinking!

Hmm...I haven't had the opportunity to think about it in depth (although I have played Runescape; so I think I know what your talking about)..BUT wouldn't this hurt the Custom Content stuff..I mean, CC is originally priced by the owner, and then by supply and demand- wouldn't NPC stores then stamp a EA price on those items? Wouldn't that be bad for the CC people and Sim economy balance?..*I think*. I suppose if each item were personally priced by the seller, it wouldn't work that way...it would actually create more competitive pricing for the economy!

hmm, must consider this more...it's sounding good, as long as the seller prices the item.

....and killing the stores might not necessarily be a bad thing (should do a poll on this b4 implementing it), I've found that most store owners are bored out of their minds anyway *lol*

Like I said, haven't had the chance 'to think it through thoroughly' (now, that's a mouth full! *lol*)

This sounds a lot like the auction system the devs were planning

Ok, yeah now that I've had time to consider it..and actually recall how the 'grand exhange' works..I think this would be a good system to implement. I would though, like to see more than one in EALand- but they would need to be connected.

For those of you that haven't played Runescape, there is basically a converging place (that's REALLY busy btw) where a player checks in with a NPC and uses the in-game system to "put something up for sale" or to look for "something they want to buy"..and yep, the price is set by the seller; in fact, if I remember correctly (please correct me if I'm wrong)..it DOES work similar to an auction as the seller lists the lowest price that they will accept, and the buyer 'bids' on it...*I think*. Then the game notifies you "that your item has been sold" or "your price to buy an object has been accepted"-something like that.

Yep, yep, yep..think it would be a really good idea. But I would still like to see a poll from players to make sure that they would be comfortable giving up the "store" category (although I imagine many would!).

I haven't seen the "auction idea" details yet, but I'm sure it would work something like this.

I said I would like to see more lot dedicated to this, though, because in Runescape the Grand Exchange is SO very busy..you can hardly find your own player..*lol*.I would hate to see most of EALAND crammed on just one property...think having a few lots dedicated to this might be better for more reasons than one.

edited to add:
OR in our game *smile*..maybe a lot is not needed at all? Of course, part of the fun of Runescape's Grand Exchange is that you do get to meet so many other "shoppers/sellers/players" while doing so. In Runescape you also will find people there yelling out the prices for whatever they are selling...rather than going through NPC..that's kinda fun to watch. In TSO/EALand I would think it would be best set up like an auction block or flea market (mall-like).

I also play Runescape! I think The Grand Exchange system is a great idea! They are changing how Sims is being played and since you can't sell back item this would be a great way to "re-use" item and get some money back.
