The Ghost of Vinny....an [SPHS] adventure in Eodon!

For weeks we slogged under the demands of that crazed Barrab tinkerer...Talia and I running the many laborious demands of those Zippy cultists.

Vinny killed people.

Finally, Talia and I had turned in all four of the required pieces to the psycho in the tent. We had fished, and dug treasure, we had slain Exodus minions and paid exorbitant sums at the Lyceum.

Vinny killed people.

"Get on the boat Vinny!" I yelled, "We have to get you through this to fight Zippy!"
"Ok ok I'm coming..." he said reluctantly, "hey, who is that over there on the dock, be right back!" and before I could grab him,

Vinny killed people.

So dangerous, so stealthy, he loved his shurikens. I sailed loops around Jhelom, he whistled happily as he applied deadly poison. "Vinny!" I gasped as the krakens pulled me under. "Huh?" he responded absentmindedly, clearly elsewhere in his mind. Even in his daydreams,

Vinny killed people.

But the day finally came when Talia, Vinny, and I stood at the Pyramid. I had warned them that what we faced was no mere Peerless. This wasn't a fight won easily. "Ready?" I asked, dreading the battle ahead. "Just let me get a drink," Vinny said, but the glint in his eye told me he had seen movement in the valley below. "TOUCH THE SKULL VINNY!" I yelled.

Vinny wanted to go kill people.

Blue bolts arced across the floor of the massive structure as Talia and I weaved among the columns. Vinny summoned his Colossus, but Zippy swatted it aside and pulled Vinny towards him. "Just shoot him, don't worry about the summons!" I implored. Vinny seemed uneasy that his shurikens tinked off the behemoth harmlessly. "What do I... I mean... uh" he kept looking at his weapon, wondering why his trusty Nerve Strike failed him now like it never had before. "Let me just get an RC up," he said, and before we could warn him another swat and pull and Vinny was under foot. For hours this continued (literally, hours) until Vinny's stamina waned. No PvP had ever lasted this long, no human enemy this obtuse. "Maybe just less with the RCs and more with the healing?" Talia suggested, for the third, or fourth, or tenth time. She and I dodged another arc of blue destruction, but Vinny was caught flatfooted looking around the room, as if hoping a stray player had wandered in by accident.

When Vinny died the final time (of many, many times) we could not reach him. His spirit refused to return to us. Vinny's last moment was inglorious for one who had killed so many. Squished under this crazed automaton's foot, Vinny attempted one last Deathstrike to the creature's toe.

Zippy killed people better.

We carried on, mourning the loss of our comrade (briefly, very briefly) as we were certain his spirit rested peacefully on a keyboard somewhere. We knew this because his ghost never left us. It stood and watched as Talia and I threw flamestrikes and Words of Death at the abomination. The Ghost of Vinny watched. And watched. And continued watching as we slowly, ponderously whittled at Zippy's lifeforce. Working together, me staggering the beast while Talia healed me, or my corpse skin-flamestrike halting the monster long enough for Talia's words of power to crack its armor. Until finally, triumphantly...

Teamwork killed Zippy.

(I didn't think to get Vinny's still watching ghost before I left, but it is there, just offscreen, still watching)

As Talia looted the remains, I loaded bags with gold. Already I had grabbed Vinny's belongings, hoping the spells of a new day could reach his spirit. But for now, we left the Ghost of Vinny in the Pyramid and returned to the Barrab Tinker.

With gritted teeth and baited breath we awaited our reward. Would it be the precious Moonstone Crystal we so needed? Or would it be a recipe, some refuse that even Sanctuary wouldn't give?

Talia went first, and with a relieved sigh she said, "I got a Crystal!"

I was myself relieved. I had worried that our first major quest with me as the nominal leader would prove fruitless. Talia had been instrumental in getting us this far, but already I had left Vinny's ghost behind.

The Tinker next handed me my reward.....

I, too, found a Moonstone Crystal in my bag. But what of Vinny?

Will his ghost one day find its way to the Barrab? Will he, too, get such an excellent reward?

HE DAMN WELL BETTER, BECAUSE WE ARE NEVER, EVER DOING THIS QUEST AGAIN!!!!

Also, dude, I dyed your suit for you...

I left all your stuff in that gift box in your keep. I hope you dream of happily murdering players bro, because a Zippy murderer you ain't :)
