When I first did this quest the bear was not in the barn. Some time later I found him behind the barn. When I attacked him with fire magic from range he just stood there and took it on the chin. I get the feeling he is getting stuck on the back side of the barn's back wall. This still appears to be going on so might as well report it while the server is not responding to me heh.
