I want to promote a idea for other shards what we been doing on Drachenfels. It can bring a shard together as a community.

On Drachenfels we have a alliance called United Drachenfels and currently we have 61 guilds in it. Yes 61 and no not all guilds are in it. (Not Yet )

When i first joined i was not sure if it was a good idea but now months later i just know its the best thing we did for Drachenfels. Thanks to the alliance we brought people together. There are always people around to talk too, or trade or hunt or ask advice. If we need arcane focus its easy to gather enough .
We even can plan events in a instant in ally chat . We can still do things seperate but if needed we can rely on help from the alliance.

I even made a special guild for new and returning players. You can join it and have a taste and help from the alliance. But you can use the guild to make a step to another guild inside the alliance that fits you better.I even had peopel who had a guild but wanted to see how the alliance is who temporary joined the guild and then when they where happy joined there guild into the alliance.

We don't let anyone just join with a guild. The ally leader always ask around on information on the players and guild who want to join.

So if you looking to bring your shard together i can only recommend a huge alliance on your shard like this. It just a matter of someone taking the lead on it. (Thank you NinaLuna on Drachenfels for that.)

Good thing that most people on Drachenfels are much smarter then that.

Big alliances like this though are no good if you're roleplaying.. Roleplayers need their own communities sadly..

Actualy, the alliance helped us with roleplaying events. The people you roleplay with knows you only play a part when you use a certain character. I like to roleplay my characters when i get a chance but i'm very carefull when i use my "Daemon" on players who don't know me. Dark Angel can come on strong and hard in words and things she do. On outsiders they might think the person behind her is realy a jerk. So i usualy don't play her in her role on new people and strangers. But inside the alliance i can freely play her the way i want because the people from the alliance know that i'm not like that at all. (Well i hope they do).
In the alliance people know what to expect from The Frarc's,Dark Angel,Captain Seoman or Mac the Werewolf.

The RP community on GL has this kind of an alliance for communication and easy RPvP. Fortunately, if someone abuses the fact that everyone is green to them, there are enough trusted people of Warlord rank to boot the offender's guild until things can be straightened out. (Something that has only happened twice that I can remember)

However, the thought of a shard-wide Alliance on GL is laughable, as we have a few trouble-maker guilds here that would ruin it in a femtosecond just because they could.

When I was chief recruiter for a large RP guild on GL, circa 2004, I was always having to ferret out would-be infiltrators from various Fel guilds and such. I eventually proposed and received a separate sub-guild where recruits had to serve a month to prove themselves before being moved over to the real one. It was a constant headache. Then again the GL RP community hadn't dramabombed itself into irrelevancy yet, so there were a lot more people.

Part of UO being what it is is having variety. Everyone being on the "same team" makes life boring. It's fun to run into players you haven't met, or are interested in other things, or just aren't part of "the collective". We all already joined the same "group" by playing UO and choosing a shard.

Question: what is it like for people outside the almighty alliance, Is resistance futile? I think not. I guess they will not be treated as foes for being outside the alliance. But... do the cultures of the individual guilds adapt to service the alliance? I guess it will be tough to decide. It can be a slow procude, but I doubt not that it will eventually happen. If asked for your guild affiliation, I bet there are already people who will happily answer "Yes, I am a member of United Drachenfels!" I can't say this is necessarily a bad thing, but some people might feel being assimilated with their guild. And some people have strong feelings for their guilds.

Sure it will help a lot when trading or finding groups for peerless hunts! But... as I understand: some people will call it 'another easiest way for instant gratification' while looking with disgust at any forms of 'instant gratification'. Just because they think we already have enough of in UO (apart from the grinding, apart from the lack of insta-kills and apart from the damage done by the evil 75% 50% 5% 0.001% of players who do afk-scripting ).

All people on Drachenfels are treaten equal, if they are part of the alliance or not. If people need help they can ask that in general chat and we help them.
All events are always announced openly for everyone. There is no sush thing if we do things its for the alliance only.

We don't assimulate any guild. All guilds that joined asked us to be part of it, we don't look for guilds to join us.
And just asking to join won't get you in that easy.
I think the reputation that the alliance have for helping anyone and everyone is the main reason why the alliance became so big.

And all seperate guilds inside the alliance have still the freedom to do and join what they want.The alliance only provide easier communication between us all. Not everyone like to use general chat.


Maybe the problem on other shards is not a big alliance but a less closer community then on Drachenfels.
