Now I know there has been previous posts on templates and people looking for help on thier tamplates.
I am somewhat new to the thief forums and wanted to ask what some of the more active thieves were running for templates in these times of low population production servers.

GM+ Stealing
GM Snooping
GM Hiding
75 Stealth
GM+ Ninja (optional)

Everything else doesn't really matter. These are the skills you'll be using 90% of the time. The other skills are just for screwing around.

Thank you for your response.
The basics I have down. I was more curious about what skills do people find helpful at helping escape from the mark, finding the mark, and any other utility skills people are using to help them get in and close.

Ninjitsu I have heard is very good with stealth and helping to escape. The question I have is what skill level to take it to. I have heard 11o is for no fail at bcomming a llama, and then some say 120 because it helps with to hit with the darts and they use darts to confuse and get people to run.

Tracking. This skill kind of has my attention and I am curious the effectivness of the skill at finding people and how far away can you start to track people. I would really like to get info on this and at what skill level to take it?

Also with the changes to the game and gear with stats. When you go to steal it checks against the final Value and not the Base value is this correct? I apoligise that this may be a silly question. But if I wear the Bandanna and Leggings with the Stealing and Stealth Mods my skills are checked against the final value with those mods added in. Again I apoligise if that is noobish.

I am just looking to what skills outside of the main 4 ( Stealing, Snooping, Hiding, Stealth) peoople find helpful and how they are used with what skill level.

Thanks in advance.

Fencing / Poisoning - fun for killing afk people on prodo.
Magery - useful for everything. tele/hide trick still works.
Tracking / Detect - tracking and uh... detecting.
Magery / Eval / Med - kill more people.
Wrestling / Resist - protection from dexers and mages.
Necromancy - wraith form.

And yeah, items work just the same as normal skill.

Tracking - either be human and use JOAT points or take it to GM. You'll either get people with Hiding/Stealth or you won't.

The key is...what type of template do you enjoy playing. Sure there are basic thief skills, but the rest of your point distribution should lean towards the areas you enjoy. Personally, I always enjoy setting up templates with defence and running in mind. But I know many others who like to fight after a steal. What do you prefer?...la

I prefer the hunt, myself. I'd squeeze in Forensic Eval if I could. haha.

Well personally I think I want to focus on getting the mark and the item I want. Not to big into staying to fight myself and always do ejoy a good chase.

I am just concerned about finding marks. That is why my interest in tracking.
And would raise it to GM if it meant a larger distance of tracking so I can find marks eaiser. I am just not sure how to fit Detect Hidden or if it will even be worth it.

Fencing/Poison can be fun. I had it on Napa.

I was mostly talking about finding them and figuring out where they're going to be next or what they're going to do next, to steal from them.

What shard are you going to play? For me on ATL its not too hard to find people, there are just a few hotspots, and an occasional straggler. (stragglers are the best) But i've played Less populated shards too for short times, and I doubt stealing would be as effective without having to scam.

An idea that i've been toying with in my head.
120 stealing
120 stealth
100 snoop
100 hide
115 magery
110 eval
110 anat
20.1 tracking
It'll depend on how effectively i can hop on my ethy. Gonna practice it first.

Eval and anat will give the equivalent to 120 weapon skill, and support the magery to the capability of a short duel if necessary. Plus magery is a great support skill anyway.

Also, if your playing a prodo shard, your gear is important. It wasn't easy to put together my main who uses 838 skill points. Half decent LRC will allow arcane clothing, and solid resists are debated among the thieves I know, but I'll never steal naked again.

I am on Catskills right now. Though I do have an Alt or so on Atlantic and the amount of people I see in Luna is very impressive. Have thought about a transfer over.

Template I am looking at running:

120 Fencing (Shadow Strike sounds like a good thing)
120 Ninjitsu
100 Hiding
90 Stealing (120 w/ items)
90 Snooping (100 w/ items)
80 Stealth (110 with items)
120 Resist

Not exactly certain on Resist at the moment but so far that seem like the plan I am working towards.

i know at gm resist you will pretty much have neutralized mages. But in my experience necro mages are the bigger problem anyway, and blood omen makes resist pointless. I'd put it into magery or detect hidden. I HATE being on the wrong side of finding another stealther. AND its fun to irritate hiding tamers and stealth archers.

the 4 usual skills + magery/med/eval when you have protection on you just steal an item hit your invis macro then target yourself, after that your away, it's pretty rare anyone will be ableto kill you inbetween stealing and invising (unless your on a dodgy wireless network *coughs*)
