Ok i have been seeing all the fun a theif can have, and i want to make one. This going to be from scratch and i dont know what skills i need besides the obvious...hiding, stealth, stealing and snooping?? Any help would be appreciated. I want to be able to shadow jump so that would involve Ninjitsu. All you vet Theifs lend a noobie a hand please. :scholar:

Ninjitsu is helpful, especially when you can go into llama form for a fast getaway. Being able to use smoke bombs is also nice.

Aside from stealing, snooping, stealth, hide, the last 3 slots are up to you. I'd choose whatever suits your playstyle.

Speaking of thief templates:

Does the disarm / steal weapon thing still work? I've read somewhere that it requires wrestling and anatomy and somewhere else that it needs wresting and tactics.

Either way, that's a lot of points so I want to make sure it's worth it first.

Yes it works. If you want, you can use only wrestling to disarm. No need for tactics. I have pretty good sucess even at 79. I'm going to stick at 80, and see how often I fail against the local players on Siege...so far so good...la

Ah cool.

Okay, this is what I'm working towards (my skill cap is 705):

Hiding 100
Snooping 100
Stealing 100
Stealth 100
Ninjitsu 100 (primarily for animal form and shadow jump)
Magery 65 (for healing and recall)
Tracking 50 (for finding/tracking marks)
Wrestling 90 (for disarm and paralyse)

My thief won't be much of a fighter. I'll pretty much be running as soon as I've struck and I'll only be using wrestling defensively. I'm not sure I need that much Ninjitsu seeing as Shadow Jump only needs a minimum of 50 points but I want it to be reliable.

egg/smoke bombs work perfectly at 50 ninja

If on a production shard, chivilry instead of magic for healing and travel, and better success...la

Drop stealth to 75.. there is no point in going above it. Rico likes 80, but there no noticeable benefits above 75 (which allows a full set of leather armor).

Ok thanks for all the replies. So really Chilvary instead of magery when you have no fighting skill for heals and transportation.

Oh thought of another question lol ..... What about your stats. Im stoning off skills from a char that was a warrior to make my new thief. Str is 100 ish, dex is 100is, and intel is 35ish. Any thoughts on that part of the template ?

High strength for hps and more loot capacity. Dex doesn't effect stealing, but you should have at least 30 so you don't redline as soon as you push through something while running away from the mark...la

I just copied a previous post I made regarding skills for a thief as opposed to re-writing it:

Ok, first thing to note, you can get by with just 100 stealth fine. I would suggest trying to get the Shadow Dancer Leggings, they add +20 stealing and Stealth.
Burglars Bandanna will add +10 stealing which can be blessed with a clothing bless deed.

I suggest keeping stealth at 80 and just use the leggings to get to 100
Stealing at 100 and use the leggings to get to 120.

Resist is fine, I have GM resist on my thief, it helps to resist poison and paralyze (without the use of omen of course). It might help a bit when running away. Of course, you don't need resist.

For Ninja, I would just suggest getting it to a level where you can cast shadow jump and leave it there, unless you want the better selection in animal form. I have mine at around 80 or so since all I needed was llama form and shadow jump.

Now for spellweaving. I did the quest on my thief so I could use some of the spells, and left it at 0. I can cast the healing spell and the armor spell.

Chivalry: since my template doesn't max out some of the skills, I was left over with around 30-40 or so skill points. I decided to add those points into chivalry, and I did this for a number of reasons. It let me cast heal, cure, that one spell that restores stam, and divine journey (recall). Nice thing is that you don't need LRC or and regs, all you need is to donate gold to shrines to be able to cast them. If you loot the left over gold from spawns, gold is no issue ;)

Don't bother with lockpicking though, nothing to be gained in chests at this moment in game play.

i had a quick template question as well..all of the thief tamplates i have seen all deal with pvp im guessing. what if someone wants to make a pvm theif?? i guess just steal strictly doom items, i was thinking of something like this.
stealing=120
archery=120
anatomy=120
tactics=120
chivalry=120
resist spell=100

would this work at all or be a complete waste of time??

Doom thieves are always a waste of time. The markets on all shards are saturated enough with doom stealables.. unless you are completely new, in which case you'd only make a pittance of what you could make as a real thief. If you insist on being a doom thief, this is not the forum to ask on.
