You're going to have to explain to me how you know me because I sure don't recognize your posting name.

Connor, did you install any software or upgrades recently? I've noticed software makers have gotten real sneaky with the toolbars lately. Even updates to Java come with some toolbar installed by default. You have to really read the windows that pop up with software upgrades to uncheck the box that installs a toolbar.

What kind of toolbar? Is it a language bar? What does it say? On your windows desktop or uo?


Glad to know it's stable now. Do you remember what other things you tried after enabling the DNS service? It shouldn't bring up a toolbar.
It was a communication toolbar. I have no clue how it got there, but I was able to remove it, which was my biggest concern. I know I didn't do anything to add a toolbar at the top of my screen. I really don't think anything I did yesterday had any effect on the modem working properly this morning. It may have just been a case of having to wait a few days for the modem to synch itself well enough to work properly since they do have to run nonstop for 10 days after install. If that does turn out to be the case, then it's the worst case of being out of synch that I've ever seen on one. I'm just glad it's working. Thanks everyone for all of your help. :thumbsup:

No, nothing other than the modem software, but the toolbar wasn't that kind. It had the virtual keyboard, an option to turn a voice on and a few other things.

Sounds like you had enabled the Windows accessibility stuff - Narrator, Onscreen keyboard, magnifier, etc. designed to help the handicapped.

Now that it's solved, you know what we need to do right? We have to undo each change and replicate the problem! :D



There was an engineer, manager and programmer driving down a steep mountain road.

The brakes failed and the car careened down the road out of control.

Half way down the driver managed to stop the car by running it against the embankment narrowing avoiding going over a cliff.

They all got out, shaken by their narrow escape from death, but otherwise unharmed.

The manager said "To fix this problem we need to organize a committee, have meetings, and through a process of continuous improvement, develop a solution."

The engineer said "No that would take too long, and besides that method never worked before. I have my trusty pen knife here and will take apart the brake system, isolate the problem and correct it."

The programmer said "I think you're both wrong! I think we should all push the car back up the hill and see if it happens again."​

Can someone also explain how now it seems my problem has gone away? I've been connected to UO for about 5 minutes straight now.....
I am glad this was resolved :)

A) Who knows maybe the Universe decided to stop craping on you for past sins?

B) One possibility was always a line issue and got resolved?

C) One possibility was the DSL/ISP provider needing time to get all the pieces in place to allow you to actually begin the training process.

D) None of the above.

You can always take Harleqins point and undo everything and see if you can recreate the problem :danceb:
