I'm sure I am missing something here, but can someone kindly inform me if the taste ID skill is necessary?

Should I waste my valuable skill points for this skill?

I am not sure if you are an elf but if human you can relatively quickly id the potions without wasting points on the skill. It may take 5 tries sometimes but usually less.
