Taming - Myth or Fact

Q1: Does beating a potential pet down prior to taming reduce the quality of pet after taming? I've head that it does at least with respect to greater dragons.

Q2: Does discording a potential pet prior to taming reduce the quality of the pet after taming?

No and no. Though I've heard someone suggesting that disco may sometimes not wear off properly, I've never had that problem.

Having said that, I don't tend to tame pets when they're disco'd, if I'm beating the beast down with pets I stable them, then return and then tame it without disco.

One point in favor of Discoing a potential pet is the creature will hit you for a lot less damage.

I just honor tame them now.. much easier.. killing high end stuff makes gaining in honor decently quick and when your making gold off it.. its not a bad trade off... i was killing Miasma with my tamer for a while and when i went to stable i noticed it said i was Knight of Honor... so im not sure how long it took but i was only there like 2-3 hours at max and i was only 4 bubbles into follower before i started....
I run a Samp/Tamer setup... that seems to work well... when i went to tame some of my pets i just soulstoned on magery from another character for the invis spell so i could invis.. then pop out and honor tame.. got my Rune and Greater Dragon this way.. with my Nightmare and Cu's being tamed prior to the switch to samp temp with just plain tamer/mage build.

The only method of taming that reduces the quality of the pet is to paralyze it while taming. This used to be a very common practice of taming pets without much risk, so the devs made it that if you para-tame a pet, it gets a 4% reduction in skills compared to a non paralyzed tamed pet.

If you smack the newly tamed pet on the nose with a rolled up newspaper I think that also has negative effects.
