Since the new Arena feature turned up I've dusted off my old Necro Mage. However looking at modern Mages etc, her suit looks a bit dated. I've no idea what the best would be at the moment so I'll post my suit (And template) below. If someone would be so kind as to give me a few pointers on how to improve the suit, I would be most grateful :)

Str/Dex/Int 110/20/125
Eval - 120
Mage - 120
Med - 120
Necro - 120
Resist - 120
SS - 120

Suit:
HoM
AoF
Crimmy
Orny
Totem of Void
Conjurer's Garb (Luck version)
Imbued Ring - DCI11/SDI10/FCR3/FC1
Runic Gorget/Arms/Legs/Gloves (49/44/44/44/44 MI12/MR7/LMC17)
Spellbook with MR3/SDI 28
Meli's Cloak
Shield of Invul

Total Stats:
HP-115/Stam-31/Mana-165
Str-110/Dex-25/Int-133
Luck-395
Resists - 59/54/56/63/71
LRC-114/SDI-48/FCR-6/FC-3/LMC-37
HPR-4/MR-16/RPD-24/DCI-45

I know the resists are a little low, but I see so many new items on people that I'm a bit WTF now when it comes to updating the suit. the char is a all round spawner/sometimes pvp.

Thankies all :)

6x120 necro mage is still viable, template wise your fine.

An upgrade you need badly would be a mage weapon. Right now you carry a spellbook around and if you are human you would have 20 skill in wrestling and anatomy. This gives you super low defense. If you are elf you have no defense at all. A mage weapon would provide defense = to magery skill. You have a variety of options to consider for mage weapons, but the most common would be the imbued planesword, it would be a -20 mage weapon, spell channelling, no -1 fc, 15DCI, and then a hit spell at 50%. The -20 magery penalty will pull your magery down to 100, however you can add +20 magery threw items to offset this penalty. The result is 120 magery with a -20 mage weapon in hand. The reason you do this is now you have 120 weapon skill for "free" as long as your weapon is equipped. A crystalline ring would provide good SDI, Regens and +20 magery, but most necromancers choose a +15magery ring with 25EP and mods to fill in blanks on the suit. Then you use a +5 magery tali which provides the remaining magery skill needed and some more EP. You could just carry a staff of the magi around however and when in trouble throw it in your hands to provide quick defense for free.

Resists - 59/54/56/63/71

Your resistances are bad also, which is likely due to the HoM. It's a nice piece but without really really strong resistance pieces it just isn't going to work out well. 4MR is good but AoF has 15DCI which is better for defensive evasion, as well as providing 40 of your 100 lrc. Almost all of my suits use an AoF.. but this is preferance I know people who use a kasa/pendant combo on every suit and do just fine. Bottom line tho is you have to choose between HoM or AoF unless you have some really really strong armor pieces laying around. Shoot for 60s in all resist with higher fire. You need to be at least 70 fire or a corpse skin will tear you apart. If you drop to 45-55 fire resistance when corpsed you will die to a standard necro combo everytime.

Also your LMC is only 17.. this needs to be improved up to at least 30 (cap is 40). LMC works in increments of 5, so 39lmc is the same as 35lmc for example. Try to hit 30 lmc+ this lets your mana pool stay full longer and provides more mana for spells. You could have 40 MR but it's not going to mean much if you have no LMC.

You have all the arties you could want for a mage suit, but the runic/imbued pieces you need are not there yet. The MI on your pieces are nice but mana is not as important as HPI in my opinion. The reason I say this is that life means you don't die. If you are out of mana you may die.. but if you are out of life you are dead. Sounds stupid but I am from diablo2.. where vitality=win. Same rules for UO.. life=win.

One more option to consider if you really really like that HoM and AoF being together is to pick up a Light's Rampart shield, it has 20DCI which is fantastic but more importantly are the resistances on the shield. I prefer to chug potions but certain builds can benefit from the awesome resistance this shield provides, specifically to cold. The shield of invun. is nice but Light's Rampart is nicer.

I don't pvm much, so my advice is geared more towards your pvp encounters, but books in pvm work just fine as long as you arn't grouped by 15 monsters.

Thank you very much for the infomation :) I'm currently upgrading the suit and making a new one on Atlantic. It'll take me a while to gather it all lol.

I'm changing my template on Atl and removing Necro/SS and adding Spellweaving and Mysticism.

I'd advise against the Mage weapon as majority of your pvm damage comes from slayer properties on your spellbook, and holding a spellbook with no wrestling or eval/anat will get you killed pretty quick in a lot of pvm situations, and a disarm will really ruin your day in pvp. I'm not sure what "sometimes" pvp means but assuming you're mainly geared towards pvm damage output and survivability the following is how I do it:

100 Magery (120)
110 Med (120)
120 Eval
100 Resist
100 Anatomy
100 Spirit Speak
90 Necromancy

Artifacts are HoM, AoF, Inquis, Orny, Crystalline Ring, Shield of Invulnerability, Spell-Woven Britches.

Arms and Gorget are imbued and enhanced with horned leather.
The ring brings you up to 120 magery and the pants bring you up to 120 Med.

Generally I use Wraith form whenever possible as 20% mana drain coupled with high mana regen and maxed lmc generally means I never run out of mana. Where most mages are spamming fireballs, I am spamming flamestrikes.

With the set above I run all 60s with 70 in fire and energy and I believe 69 in cold. Physical is the lowest at I think 57, but in Wraith form it goes up to 70. Mana regen is like 17, lmc 40, lrc 100, 45% dci, and 40sdi before spellbook.

Other than that, switch your Crimmy out for a Tangle apron. You can get another 2 MR from a sash, the replicas run about 30 mil and have crap durability and are not worth it in my opinion. There are a few non-replica versions you can pick up for 100-150mil that never break and by all means if you've got that much gold laying around it's a nice piece. The other (much cheaper) option for sash slot is Corgul's Enchanted something-or-other which runs 1-3m and gives a 5% dci bonus.

Oh and on the talisman with this setup you don't NEED anything to cap anything out. For pvm I use a mana phasing orb with MR 1 and sdi 5. For spamming Wither for lower end spawn I use a bloodwood spirit talisman. For pvp you might swap it for a Slither if you have lots of money.

That's all I can think of right noe, 3am amnesia. If I left anything out let me know.
