Cool suggestion, but that would look horrible in either client unless they spent time making the animations for it. Unless you want it to look like a flat piece of cloth with the character standing absolutely still or running on that cloth as it "moves."
They already have all the other animations for mounts, them moving, running, character sitting. They would need all new ones for a flying carpet mount for both the carpet and the characters.
