Suggestion for a Uhall Overhaul

Waaay too many people in here are personally attacking other people, and rather nastily I might add. As Magadelene "gently" reminded me once-upon-at-time that behavior is against the Stratics ROC.

My idea is to create a "Sin Bin" or if you will a penalty box or time out room.
OPs of a thread would be allowed to lodge one complaint per poster per thread. Non OPs could only complaint if the post is blantantly directed at them.

For Example: MaryJane posts a thread about the difficulty of gaining taming skill. AsasuarusRex posts tellling her to shut up and she's a whiner. MaryJane could then click on a button that says report poster and report him. If a poster got like 10 pts (1 complaint = 1 point) against his/her account they would have to go in the "Sin Bin".

Once inside the "Sin Bin" you could read stratics but you could not post.

So for like the 1st offense you couldn't post for 12hrs, then for the 2nd it'd be 24hrs, and so on. If a person offended 5 times THEN they'd be subject to banishment from the board for the appropriate amount of time.

The way I see the worst punishment you can inflict on a board troll is to let them read but not allow them to post. Its kinda like tying their hands behind their back; flustrates the you-know-what outta them.

Just my 2 cents for what ever they're worth.

So you want the poster to have this kind of power over somebody/anybody?? Just to be able to click that button & report that post & add 1 point... Ya right. I can see your poster or any poster for that matter getting his or her thrills by reporting everyone that doesn't agree with them. You would have no one here in a short. Talk about chaos, this would be it.

He he, the Everquest forums had a system were you could rate a persons post and that over a period of time was supposed to rate the person.

Well, all it did was to have an on/off switch or if you will a 1 and a 5 nothing in between and it was all about warfare. They scraped it as well intentioned but totally non functional.

We already have this thank you, though not in quite the form you suggest.
If you believe a post breaks RoC you report it.
The difference is, points aren't handed out on a poster's say-so but on a jugdgement call by the moderator and the criteria isn't how unpopular the poster is but whether or not the RoC has truely been broken.
Infraction points are awarded for different levels of offence. When sufficient points are accumulated the poster earns a 24 hour ban. This stops them posting, but if they log out of the boards they will still be able to read them.
If the poster receiving the infraction believes the moderator has made a bad judgement call he can email [email protected] to get it looked into by the admins.
We believe our system is fairer. No system is perfect but we do our best.

Just keep your 2 cents.:dunce:

Nothing like complaining about complainers.

Maybe try not to take everything so personally, and be a little less politically correct.

What some people don't realize is there is a fine line between insulting a poster and insulting a post. Then there's always those that get butt hurt if anything they say isn't instantly agreed upon by everyone and go off on whoever posts a dissenting opinion.

Steps for UHall Overhaul:
Step 1: Ban popps from making troll threads and ban Jirel of Joiry from making drama threads.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit.

The Everquest forums were logged into with your Everquest account id and password.

So your tactic would have been quite profitable for SoE. :pint:

But what would happen is some one gets mad at some one else then they would go find all the post that person made, no matter how wonderful etc and give it a 1. Then others would of course run through and give them all a 5.

In short, collectively, the posting population can certainly become extremely childish.

The way Stratics handles it now works, I have had my share of points and in all cases but 1, I certainly did deserve it and the points awarded to me were ... justifiable.

In my opinion, the best system we can hope for is a system were the RoC is uniformly applied and as such we all can learn/adapt to the .... interpretation of the RoC.

One change I would like to see though is this.

All Moderators and Petra post as normal posters. It can become difficult to know when it is a normal post and when it is more than that.

AN EXTREME EXAGERATION FOLLOWS THAT HAS NO BASIS IN REALITY.

Moderator a post a 200 word rebuttal to a perosn and in the drop dead center says "If you reply to this thread I will ban you".

What I would like to see and have consensus (meaning to allow the Moderators to be one of us normal, passionate posters) on with the posting population is that the Moderators preface the Reply with something explicit, such as

This is your friendly Moderator saying ....
This is your Annoyed Moderator saying ....
This is your Irritated Moderator saying ....
This is your Angry Moderator saying ....
This is your You don't want to push this any further Moderator saying ....

And the body of the rply is 100% exclusively about the reason for the moderation. In short no intermixing of "Oh I am a moderator in this sentence and I am not in this one"

And if people think it is always IMPLICITLY clear when this is the case I would ask you to consider that English is NOT the worlds first language and people need to not only translate but get the nuances correct. Heck let alone us English speaking people not being able to get it right when we think some one is joking and they are really very angry. :pint:

You'd think on an English speaking forum, based in the US, for a game that's also based in the US, the people reading it would have enough of a grasp of the English language to understand the gist of what's being said....:twak:

This has been clearly demonstrated to not be the case on numerous occasions.

And one in particular seemingly fostered some hurt feelings by several people.

As an example, let me assure you of one thing, anyone posting here were English is NOT their first language can rest assured their English, no matter HOW BAD IT IS, is better than my understanding of their language and it is incumbent of me to do everything I can do, to make sure we have effective communication. I do not load the responsibility on them. :pint:
