Suggestion for a mining change.

Things that could be changed that would benefit crafting and hinder scripting.

An increase in the weight of runebooks to 16 stone. (Don't panic you just got a reduction in gold weight so it won't hurt other classes that much).

A maximum of 4 large ore from a mining spot but an increase of ingots per large ore to 8. This would mean instead of needing over 7 pack animals full of large ore to fill a 20 piece large plate bod you could fit it in one but have to move around a lot more (no problem for a player).

Have a 2-4% chance to dig up a metal chest while mining, that spawns on the spot you are standing on. This chest would have nothing in and couldn't be opened. Call it 'an old rusted shut metal chest'. It would be useless to anyone but would block recall spots for a couple of hours unless moved.

Library donations.
2 iron = 1 point
1 dull copper = 1 point
1 shadow iron = 1 point
1 copper = 2 points
1 bronze = 3 points
1 gold = 4 points
1 agapite = 5 points
1 verite = 7 points
1 valorite = 9 points

Ok. So what would these changes do?
The miner/smith.
Less ore needed = Less traveling to and from a forge and more reason to go mining.
Less time needed gathering materials = More time to enjoy other things in the game.

The scripter.
More mining spots = more runebooks and a good chance to block recall spots.
More runebooks = less ore can be carried.
More time spent recalling = less ore over time.
More chance, with extra spots needed, to recall into danger or the spot be emptied already.

Other things you should think about.
You can get a barbed runic sewing kit from a 20x spined, exceptional, male leather armor set large bod which takes 20-30 minutes to gather materials (700 pieces of spined) from Despise, Wrong (bring back the jukas) or various other locations, which can make some very nice armor pieces.
For over 7 pack animals full of just iron you can fill a 20x iron plate armor large bod and get a copper hammer.
Which takes the longest to gather the materials for and which would you prefer to have?

Maybe a few little flaws need ironing out but there you have it. Oh, and before you reply reread it 3 or 4 times so you know what you're replying to.

Don't know about you but I usually have ay least 5 rune books per character. Miner characters at least 8. Scripters only need 1.

Actually more hassle for player. Scripter is not there he doesnt care. Player will need to move around more diminishing amount mined to time spent by 90%. Scripter can got days player can hopefully get a hour to 6 the most befoe there brain stops working and there eyes bleed.

This will be time consuming again for player who is there as well as mess up the markes spots that give multiple veins and many dig chances which any true miner has marked making it there favorite spots. Recall miner is not only use by scripters it's 1 of the best methods to mine that will give you the best time to ore mined and wont make you cut youre risk afterwards."Also imagine coming to every cave in fel and trammel every mountain range filled with chests unable to recall to any of youre spots not to mention it's just ugly"

Not many players would give up ore for collections when they can sell it at at huge profit. And just buy what they need.

Less ore needed = Less traveling to and from a forge and more reason to go mining.
Less time needed gathering materials = More time to enjoy other things in the game. Many players enjoy mining it's relaxing something you can do with simple or complicated macros very good return. They enjoy it. 65% of my uo time is spent mining and I actually enjoy it Though it's boring it's also relaxing and very profatable. Especially the more they make it harder to get ore the more I can charge :)

I don't agree with scripting or advantages,however..i'm also tired of reading about people complaining/crying over them.

Are you mad cause you have to pay high price for thier ingots?
Mine your own and worry about your own game play, rather than someone else.

note:This is for everyone not just op.

Let me first say that I do understand your frustration on the subject of scripters. However there is one simple reality that everyone needs to just accept, enjoy their gaming time the way that makes them feel as though they accomplished something, and move on..

YOU WILL NEVER EVER BEAT THE SCRIPTERS..PERIOD!

Anyone that knows how to read, has access to google, and knows how to click a mouse can create a script for anything. And I do mean anything that relates to a computer. And I won't even get into the advances in OCR software over the past years. You can't beat it.

There is not a single game that you play that someone with a little time, patience, and persistance hasn't written a script for in one way shape or form.

I know people that use click recorders so that they can have the uberest mobster on their silly myspace games.(no offence to those that enjoy your myspace games :)) They simply start their click loop, and off it goes. Someone could just as easily use a program like that to make this game do nothing but loop from runebook to runebook, use the shovel on an exact spot on the screen say 5-10 times...and away they go. 2d, 3d, KR, nor SA will be able to stop this, ever. There is nothing that EA or any other gaming company can do to effectively kill the unholy world of cheaters. Unless they come server side, which I highly doubt any cheater would be stupid enough to do.

Yes, it is a saddening reality. There will always be cheaters. Both in games and in real life. The only thing I would suggest is that you start worrying about your time in the virtual pixel candy world that we call UO and not what those around you are doing.

Yes I enjoy mining too....I have 6 miners. But still, you didn't take the whole thing in that I was suggesting. You were just pulling apart each part.

Mad about paying for ingots? No not really, As I posted in this thread last week....

http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=133505

I got bundles of ingots. Not paid for ingots since well before AoS when training my fist smith, 7gp each from player vendors.

I agree but UO makes it easier with recall.
