There seem to be a subset of items that refuses to dye. A majority of my snake skin boots stained fine, but 2 of them gives me the "you cannot dye that" message.

Seems all my blessed snake skin boots werent dyable. All my unblessed ones was dyable (with staining)

All my boots were blessed. Out of the ~20 I had, only 2 were not stainable. The rest I could dye with either a dye tub or one of the new stains. I could not Tokuno Dye any of them.

I think it might have something to do with the age of the boots. When they were introduced, there was a patch for the after the first few days to get rid of the possibility of getting "oak" boots. I'm assuming that the boots that aren't stainable are the older boots. All the new boots I claimed yesterday and blessed are stainable.

[EDIT] And yes, I know what "ofc" is intended to mean... I simply refuse to acknowledge its existence. It's one of the laziest acronyms I've ever seen used on the net, and doesn't even follow the standards for being a real acronym.
