starting new , want to specialize in killing undeads with a paladin template

Hi, old player here coming back.

I always enjoyed wandering around killing liches and eventually, lich lords. Back in the day this was a true challenge as a melle type character.

Now I'm back and newbing it up with a paladin template and I want to get some undead slayer weapons.

I would prefer to acquire these items myself, even if it is all chance based. I have two questions regarding this.

1. Is there any particular mob-type or location that I can focus on that would increase my odds of decent undead slayer weapons? I am a re-newb but I do have some rusty old tamers and stuff.

2. Can you give me a breakdown on the type of armor / protections I should be focusing on if I want to specialize in undead hunting? In the beginning I want to focus on being able to farm lich lords with my paladin, this is the first goal.

thanks.

Theoretically weapons with Undead slayer can drop on most anything, but usually the harder the monster the more/better loot they will drop so the more chance of getting one. As for armour, you will want lots of fire and poison resist as liches use magery and necromancy spells, which do a lot of damage to those two areas. It's good to have a suit with 70s (or close to) resists across the board though - you might want to look into getting some Virtue Armour, as it gives maximum resists and is blessed so you'll never lose it. Looks good on a paladin character too :)

There is no place better then any other for finding slayer weapons. In fact your going to probably have to find a friend to help make those for you. I would try and find an undead slayer talisman as using a double slayer would really help your damage out. Your going to need a well balanced suit because undead both hit hard and cast some nasty necro spells so I would look at having magic resist in your temp. I would say you want an all 70's suit with as close to 45 HCI and DCI as you can come by. Your going to need around 120 hp in the long run so however you get there is up to you (you can add 25 Hit Points through your suit but after that it caps out). Mana is going to be an issue so you might want focus and your going to need hit mana leech on any weapon you have and should add as much mana increase to your suit as you can come by. Stamina regen is another nice addition as you will want to swing at max speed which is 1.25 seconds (you can find this with a google search of a UO Swing Speed caluclator or by getting the formula from UOguide.com). Other then that it can be done, although you might find it a bit limiting. A quick word of advice make sure your friends with a cook because it will be a good idea to have tons of enchanted apples to remove debuffs.

Undead slayer is one of the super slayers. Compared to earlier times, when silver weapons were common, they have become rare as all superslayers now.
Nowadays you can imbue/craft slayers onto weapons. Undying flesh (the special ingredient for undead slayer) is not that hard to get. You would need 10 of those for 1 weapon. With relic fragments (another imbuing ingred) becoming more and more easier to get, the costs for getting an imbued undead slayer weapon shouldnt be in an outrageous range.
Remember that damage increase has a hard cap of 300%. That includes up to 100% on items + slayer properties + (some) skills. It might be possible to get more accidentaly. Especially against lich-type of monsters I would suggest using a mage slayer talisman. Those shouldnt be that expensive, if you can find some selling for a fair price. (Demand is low for them and they are not that useful.)
As someone else already have mentioned, liches are good at casting necro spells nowadays. So having magic resists and high chiv would be helpfull. Blood oath usually is a very dealy spell for a melee type character.

as a melee chiv guy, you might want to hit the painted caves with the soul seeker and kill tons of trogalytes (or whatever). they're "hard" enough to drop slayers and super slayers and with the souly and eo1, you'd be just fine killing them by the droves. though i really would recommend finding the imbuing ingredients and having someone make u an undead slayer (or getting the ol' conjurer's trinket) as others above have noted.

imbuing has made the world quite different. you can make something in no time that is 10 times better than what will drop (arties excluded) and customize it for what you want. Happy hunting and welcome back
