Stable in Cove

Didn't there used to be a stable in cove? I seem to remember one there. I seemed to remember it was removed during the Orc invasion of Cove. I asked Sis and she remembers the same. We're both hoping someone else could confirm this as well. Also maybe a Dev Team member might explain why it wasn't put back?

Just cked the old UOAM files and they do not show one, so I do not think there was one.

There was not, not unless a seer built one for a community on a specific server long ago.

I don't think Cove ever had one. Vesper has one now... that's probably the closest.

I think each town should have the following as staples:

Bank
Tailor
Tinker
Smith
Butcher
Stable
Dock (if near water)
Inn
Tavern

What would be REALLY nice to build community and such would be to offer player run towns the ability to have their own "donation" and "loyalty" system so they could hire a Banker, Stablemaster, and Harbormaster and put in a small dock. The rest of the stuff players can do themselves. And yes we can have one of those spiffy little hitches for a "stable" but it takes charges. That's not cool.

But in the "Library" that is being worked on by @Kyronix and @Bleak I would like to see a small bank, a small stable (Could look much like the Magincia things), and a small Dock. That can be added to Player Towns for a price. Not only a good gold sink potential.... but it would help player run towns. Oh and another thing that might be nice would be a roadsign that could be placed along one of the "kings" roads that points to the town... These should of course need upkeep. As you wouldn't want them to be all over long after the guild died. Though perhaps they could be in some way tied to the Guild Leaders account. If it goes down more than 14days they lose them. This would keep people from doing the account roulette with them.

tbh there are already more than enough completely unvisited and empty banks/towns. Old towns used to have their own unique things, Cove didn't have a bank, it was a mining town that was commonly under attack by the headless and orcs, thus was the sort of town that not many really wanted to setup shop in or for that matter even have a bank that could have been overrun (RP gibberish). That uniqueness has been lost and continues to diminish when you simply look at a town as a layout of accessibility. When you can make a list and say "Every town should have this" then that makes no town different from any other one, and thus no reason for anyone to be on the least populated one. For example, on Baja back in the day, the perk of Vesper was that it was a good starting area, close to a graveyard, wasn't rampant with players (which could be thieves and/or suicide gankers), it was close to a good dungeon that encompassed all levels of hunting, it was a great spot for people to place their homes near and sell their wares, close enough to guardzone that is. And there was a uniqueness in it's layout that RPers enjoyed. It was a decently populated bank even without a stable, and personally in my opinion, the location of the current stables is sort of poor. There was no thought put into the immersion of a player who really gets into the game, eg: You go to a bank which is right next to a stable, which if you've ever visited a stable or barn or ranch at all, you know that they can smell awful.

*shrugs* Then again, I'm a simpleminded non-rper with little interest in such things though.

Every town is different. I love Yew for the Beautiful Trees. No other town has them... It's layout is unique most it's buildings are made of logs... It is unique. Skara Brae is a town on the water... But unlike Vesper it's not made up of a confusing maze of bridges it has a ferry to take you to the mainland... also VERY unique. Trinsic is a Walled City... Most of it lies behind heavy walls not too unlike Serpents Hold but still it is it's own City... It like Britain sports 2 banks. Britain has the castles of British and Blackthorn as well as the surrounding farmland... Many towns have a nearby Graveyard but not all of them. So every City is quite Unique in it's own way. Each of them are laid out completely different. I find Skara Brae to be the most "convenient" at least for me because mostly when I travel to town I'm looking for 2 things the Bank and the Stables. Luna to me is not only an eyesore with it's menagerie of shops and homes... some of which are just totally FUGLY... And it's far too laggy to really want to be there. On shards other than my home shard most my characters live out of the Inn in Haven.... Why? Because Haven is almost NEVER under siege and it's a good place to be a newb. Nu'Jelm is rather different with the Palace and all... Jhelom taking up three small islands is totally different than most other places save perhaps Moonglow as both have teleporters to various places... Moonglow has the Zoo... Vesper the Bridges and the Museum.... So saying that because they all have the "Basic" of shops they would then not be "unique" is absurd.

The one thing I love about UO is it's uniqueness... and the designs of the cities... I could care less about New Magincia now that it's become a trailerpark... it lost it's beauty. But I have always wanted each shard to be FAR more unique than they are. They should have differences. However they ought to at the same time be equal in those differences. If you give something as useful as a moongate to a city like Britain... then EVERY shard should have a Moongate in Britain. Doesn't have to be in the same spot on every shard but they all ought to have one. There are more ways to make things "unique" without compromising function.

I play on Legends and it might have been a seer placed stable or my brain is shot LOL. I am sure remember one there before the Orc invasion and then it was gone. No, matter I like Cove for its proximity to the Orc fort. I do like pounding on the Orcses. LOL
I think they should allow Cove to be randomly invaded on a regular basis I mean, gee the Orcs don't have THAT far to walk! LOL
I was just trying to unclutter my brain full of UO memories! :) Seriously, I would love to have to beat back the Orcs off of Cove once in a while, hehehe, put those Orc slayers to work!

If a town doesn't have a basic amenity like a stable or a bank, what's the point in going there period?

Personally, Cove is one of my favorite towns, along with Ocllo and Wind. ...Though some might say they see a pattern there. ;)

Yeah, Magincia was a pretty town, loved it. Loved the event, hate the rebuild...

And there was too much misinformation given out on the banks, some were told NO moongates, meanwhile others got gates. And more than one bank only got half deco'd and then forgotten about

But I think they are gonna finish the banks, soon as they get thru giving away those Malas castles...:lie:

I know we were told no gates... etc... but others got them. Very irritating. I didn't even submit anything because unless you are either a super wiz at paint or have some special program for it without inside UO doing anything like that is a nightmare. Some used free shards where they could actually redesign things and take a screeny which for folk who don't have access to such things made the competition nearly impossible.

I still maintain that if they built a proper program for folk to do such things in they would get FAR better results.

With a Stable!!! buahaha
If they made it into a little farm town with a stable... that would fit into Ultima Lore. Doesn't even need to have a bank.

Cove is my favorite town. I have always mined there and have always wished they had stables. But never have been there. Yes they added the bank much to my thrill and if you need Compassion its the best town for gating NPC's.

I love each and every town i UO except that i agree that New Magincia has lost its beauty and is ugly and pointless now with all these little merchants in a little square ; also i liked it best before Britain Bank wasn't randomly re-decorated, the original one was so much better ! oh well...

I wish they did small, classy additions to cities more often. It is kinda hard to understand why all of them have been exactly the same for two decades...
When they do change something, (Maginicia, Haven) they end up with complete, 100% overhaul. What is wrong with changing one thing here, other there instead. Occasionally open random plot for player housing.

When they DID end up making minor changes, it of course just had to be some weird player designed neon color vomit all over WBB. Is silly.

Honestly I'd like to see things renting out area's. There are dozens of already built homes and buildings in the towns with nothing in them. Dozens of inns where it would be cool if you could "rent" a room and be able to store things.

I'd like to see this as something the Governors could do. Each newly elected Governor would have to re-approve the rent... but renters would be warned at the election time that a new rental contract will be due. This would promote community... give you a place to stay on shards other than your home... put money in the city coffer... and give people another reason to care about the elections.

Yeah, pretty much every city in this game was made far too large to begin with. Even at peak of UO's glory days, majority of houses in, say, Britain never had visitors, use or purpose at all. The idea behind Luna is one they'd done well to have with every city to begin with.

Every city doesn't have to be efficient in terms of layout. This is a roleplaying game. Not a spreadsheet. So what if some buildings are not used by players.

I agree. I like the uniqueness of each city and I wish they had more uniqueness on each shard. And no matter what others say I really like the WBB designs... some way more than others. Infact I wish our bank on GLs was better.

The renting a room in the inns is a cool idea !!!!! but not to forget there is so much room for housing in UO now (most shards anyway)
Yes but you are still limited to one house per account. Save Siege/Mugen where you can have a house there on your account regardless of having a house somewhere else... Also it is a neat idea for folk who either want more room/storage... as you could rent a room on multiple characters I suppose to get more storage and it would be nice on shards you don't play and don't have a home but maybe you RP there. Just saying.

I'd love this - but would the $$ people see this as threat because we wouldn't be opening a house account on each shard?
