SSI and Melisande's Corroded Hatchet

Does SSI affect axes/hatchets when lumberjacking? Can you chop wood faster with SSI on an axe? I was looking into Melisande's Corroded Hatchet but since the +5 to lumberjacking does not go over 100, axe seems worthless other than having spell channeling on it.

Thank you, kind of figured the hatchet was worthless but wanted to make sure. I already have one that is spell channeling so I don't need to worry about doing the quest.

I wouldn't call it worthless, just not useful for your purposes.

Personally, I use the use the Singing Axe to for my lumberjack/carpenter. I use items to get the 45 musicianship skill to craft instruments.

Though, you can actually imbue the Melisande's Hatchet to be a more suitable combat weapon for Fel tree chopping (replacing the negative DI with positive, increasing SSI, etc.) After all, the population's low enough on most shards to where the few people PKing resource gatherers are even lower on the food chain than they used to be.
