You can find all the art to go with these strings on the 'character tests' page in InsideUO. It acrually looks decent, and some of the pieces are huge.

Someone posted a pic of the stained glass window in one of the threads for the last patch.

I noticed that they completely changed how they do the ingame art with Inside UO (the complete changeover of "Character Tests" to new artwork, the deletion of a LOT of older, unused artwork (including the NINOS sign), etc).

I'll state this, if the art upgrade for the EC follows the look and quality of the art seen lately, and scales well, I'm not really sure that ANYONE will ahve anything to complain about along those lines.

I've been using Inside UO a LOT lately for work on my UI texture theme for the EC, so it's been interesting to see all of the changes as I pull out needed pieces.

Define lately, because the art team still can't do perspective right on art and the teddy bears were pretty blah.

Lately being SA forward, the stuff in the Character Tests tab. Of course the biggest problem remains scaling above the native resolution, but the depth and quality of color and shades of color used is noticeably higher than the original art in Static Tiles.

The "perspective" argument is one that I'm not 100% sure about because I wonder which one is actually "correct" and whether or not the one used for dye tubs and other Legacy items has actually always been wrong but is so ingrained in people's minds that it has become "correct".

Virtuebane looks pretty sharp and scaled pretty nicely when zooming in and out, and that's pretty new artwork. I would have screenshots of VB but tonight I was focused more on not dying and recovering from client crashes. I don't think that qualifies as the high resolution artwork, but somebody clearly put a lot of time into him recently.

The perspective UO was originally in is always going to be the "right one." It doesn't matter if it's wrong for isometric (which it is, but then UO isn't true isometric...)

Much of the newer item art seems tilted oddly compared to older items. (this is in both clients) The most obvious of these items are the unusable plant pots, and the poorly resized codex floor tiles. The new art needs to match the old art perspective-wise.

Ra'Dian can go on about this at length if someone pesters him... ;)

That codex is an embarrassment, plain and simple.

Virtuebane and the house tiles mentioned in the OP.

You gotta give the art team some credit, for being only one person, they are getting things done.

Putting out a scant few items is nothing. And according to them, they somehow have more than one artist... Grimm often reminds us how he basically just pops things in the pipeline.

I could share some pm's I have regarding art, but sadly thats against the RoC here. Kinda eye opening though.

I smell a,

New Gothic Home
$6.99 for the new option when building a custom house!
Only at UO game codes!

In the end though this might mean they're working to free to play. Just a wild assumption though :D.

This presupposes they will bother to announce such a purchasable.

SINCE IT'S NOW OVER A WEEK LATER AND THERE IS STILL NO MENTION OF THE BOAT AND DYES ON THE HERALD OR FACEBOOK. COMMUNITY GUYS MIA ONCE AGAIN.

The community guy hasn't posted since the end of January.

The dev team, after acknowledging that, once again, they've dropped the ball and will do better, also have, shockingly, already dropped the ball again.

People, this is a vicious circle... you'd think that we'd as players would wise up or at the VERY least the dev team get their stuff in order for JUST ONCE.

If they have a reputation as MMO's least professional and least dedicated team (which alongside the rest of Mythic, they do actually), it is well deserved.

The scary thing is... We have two of them now... At least, allegedly. James Nichols and Rowland Cox.
Well they are doing an awesome job, I think.

And by awesome, I mean I wonder what they do with their 40 hours a week.

Define 'best'.
best = last remaining artist on the team? He is/was a supervisor, but I think he only supervises himself :(

He also plays/played on LS, which also makes him the best dev team member.

Yup, still here. I can't comment on our current staffing, but I'm certainly not the only artist on the team. I'm glad you guys are liking what we've been putting out. We definitely stay on the bounce around here.

Cheers,
GO

I really liked Virtuebane in the EC. Never got around to checking him out in the CC, but he was awesome in the EC.

Lately being SA forward, the stuff in the Character Tests tab.
The stuff from SA forward has been extremely hit or miss. Let's just take a look at the available and incomplete housing tile sets that include tiles that don't line up properly, tiles that don't work with the housing system very well, and stair cases that have improper colorations and outcroppings along various views.

Let's look at things like the Codex of Wisdom for houses that aren't in perspective, or the silver sapling plant that was redone, and so forth...

I mean, yeah, _some_ of the artwork isn't bad, but by and large it's not exactly anything to write home to mom about. They're still making paper doll art mistakes by having the stuff pre-hued at times... Gargish weapons don't even seem to be from the same game as the original items came from...

Fundamentally there are so many issues with the game's artwork, it's not even funny. Consistency would be a great place to start though.

Having been the sole programmer carrying the title "Senior Web Developer" as if there were actually any other developers on the team, I appreciate the irony of a one-man art team...

On the other hand, we can't actually hold Grimm Omen responsible in any way, shape, or form for any of the artwork that appears in Ultima Online because projects he claims to have been working on have never seen the light of day, he certainly takes no responsibility for the bad artwork in the game, and we've not seem him admit to having completed anything that would remotely be considered good. He can't even decide whether or not he was part of the group or process that green-lit or did not green light, inspected or didn't inspect, or in any other way did or did not have anything to do or not to do with the artwork that might have been, definitely was, could have been, or never became the artwork that was or was not included in the KR client (or not).

In fact, while we all know Grimm's an artist for Ultima Online, I'm pretty sure none of us can conjur any proof of it.

I did.

Somebody sent me a link to a picture of the two new house sets in Pub 70 and I really like this gothic one. Don't really care about the virtue banners or the rustic bench and new training dummy, but like the gothic house stuff.

If it's in a booster pack and only $6 or $7, it would be very tempting for me. GrimmOmen or whoever did it should get credit.

I suspect that even if that were the new house tile set that we wouldn't get access to the cathedral window because it's two stories high. I'm sure something would break in the house system.

So? They just rebroke a bunch of EC clothing items... :yell:
Now, now... to be fair, they did mention that they were working on graphical improvements for the EC.

Perhaps making them vanish is an improvement.

You so funny Ra. If they really wanted to make objectionable clothing vanish in the EC, then they should start with robes on gargoyles. They look like burlap sacks.
