has anyone else had this much trouble catching them?

yes, whenever I have a quest for the things....

I only seem to catch them (or anything else) in quantity when I don't have a quest for them.

Exactly what happens to me. My trail was dungeoness crabs...

I couldnt believe how many hours it took and that I went through like 40 pots before catching them. Thankfully a few nice oceanians talked to me via the chat channel to keep my sanity.
