Speculation fun: What does UO run on?

No I don't mean your laptop at home, I mean the servers!

We know they use Oracle, so my money is on some sort of HP setup. That, or "oracle" is their name for an NPC hamster that spams commands out...

What do you all reckon they run on!

Didn`t they borrow the old stratics hamster for the UO servers? I know you can turn a pentium 2 500 mhz processor into a server for the classic client. I`m not saying anymore.^^

Well, if I wanted to be mean I could say Atari 800's in a grid configuration.

However, since they're an Oracle shop I'd suspect either Sun/HP blade servers with linux or a vmware virtual server setup, still on HPs.

Ideally they'd do virtual machines, because they could easily add a few more gig of ram and extra processors as needed, and pop on a new facet anytime without any significant downtime.

For a short time I HAD to go back to a ribbon cable for my optical drive on the desktop because of the placement of the IDE slot on the motherboard and how the new video card (read: stonking GIGANTIC) fit (barely) in the case. After I found a decent external Sony USB optical multi-drive (ok, it doesn't do Blu-Ray, but oh well), I ditched the internal drive and the IDE cable altogether.

So there ARE times when it happens

Probably, Worst case though is UO is running on zOS. Even half the people who market zOS think it sucks....

They should switch over to a Linux/MySQL setup...better than Oracle and what ever any day.

Wilki stated a long time back that it was their own coding that they nicknamed "wombat" not sure what os the server runs but the coding was a in house job
