... I don't see how anyone could disagree with this if they actually read it and think for 2 seconds about what I'm saying.
One Thousand One... One Thousand Two...

I read it and thought about it and disagree with what you are saying. I agree the punishment was harsh, but I don't agree that the punishment was wrong. If you know what the rules are and you break the rules, be willing to accept the consequences. This person was warned and refused to change their behavior.

If it REALLY bothers you that much and you REALLY can't abide by the rules, again rules that you agreed to, then maybe it's time to find some activity that doesn't get you so upset? ("You" used in the general sense, meaning anyone and everyone who plays UO.)

Buttercup, I did "listen" to your posting... I did try to explain, and no matter how many times we try to explain to you that "they breaks the rules, they have to take the punishment," and you just won't listen. I just don't agree with your reasoning. Okay, Buttercup?

First thread I read this morning and it makes me happy.

Soooooo tired of people trying to ruin events. I just wish it were this easy to ban certain
people from life.

So someone says they were banned for "Woooooo" some others say it was for much more.

Screenshots anyone?

let's focus on spamming Woooo or other innocuous things that could disrupt an event, not sexual harassment, sexual harassment in any case should result in account being actioned based on 3 strike rule. 24, 72, then perma-ban.

I propose a simple, pragmatic way that GM's can defuse situations and save accounts (as opposed to an emotional response which all of you are proposing) rather than allow situations to escalate and have an unfortunate situation where a player is banned from playing their account ever again, which is a very severe punishment.

in the first place, the warning should have come along with a trip to jail. for the GM to stand there and let someone dig their own grave is kind of silly. the GM should always remove a person disrupting an event and put the person in jail. the person will stay in jail until at least the next morning, at which time they will have to page a GM, and the GM will explain what the person was doing wrong.

by doing this, the GM is trying to defuse the situation and save an account, instead of allowing the person to continue to disrupt an event until there is an escalation of a situation to a point where there could be harassment or personal feelings involved where the player will then have to be punished more severely.

I agree we need more facts to decide this specific situation. but I think I was clear about how to deal with situations like this in general. I fail to see how anyone can disagree with my approach

you ARE ignoring my posts, and you ARE repeatedly slinging personal attacks at me (buttercup). you have stooped to the lowest form of argument, and I will not be replying to you anymore.

23. It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside down.

22. In France, it is forbidden to call a pig Napoleon.

20. In Alabama, it is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while driving a vehicle.

19. In Ohio, it is against state law to get a fish drunk.

18. Royal Navy ships that enter the Port of London must provide a barrel of rum to the Constable of the Tower of London.

17. In the UK, a pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants – even, if she so requests, in a policeman’s helmet.

16. In Lancashire, no person is permitted after being asked to stop by a constable on the seashore to incite a dog to bark.

15. In Miami, Florida, it is illegal to skateboard in a police station.

13. In England, all men over the age of 14 must carry out two hours of longbow practice a day.

12. In London, Freemen are allowed to take a flock of sheep across London Bridge without being charged a toll; they are also allowed to drive geese down Cheapside.

11. In San Salvador, drunk drivers can be punished by death before a firing squad.

10. In the UK, a man who feels compelled to urinate in public can do so only if he aims for his rear wheel and keeps his right hand on his vehicle.

9. In Florida, unmarried women who parachute on Sundays can be jailed.

8. In Kentucky, it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon more than six-feet long.

7. In Chester, Welshmen are banned from entering the city before sunrise and from staying after sunset.

6. In the city of York, it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow.

5. In Boulder, Colorado, it is illegal to kill a bird within the city limits and also to “own” a pet – the town’s citizens, legally speaking, are merely “pet minders”.

4. In Vermont, women must obtain written permission from their husbands to wear false teeth.

3. In London, it is illegal to flag down a taxi if you have the plague.

2. In Bahrain, a male doctor may legally examine a woman’s genitals but is forbidden from looking directly at them during the examination; he may only see their reflection in a mirror.

1. The head of any dead whale found on the British coast is legally the property of the King; the tail, on the other hand, belongs to the Queen - in case she needs the bones for her corset.

Per RoC, actions against folks are at the discretion of the EA employees - GM, EM, etc. It is their choice as to action(s), if any.

right. that's why it's open for discussion. there's no set in stone punishment for anything, just internal guidelines that we have no access to.

HAHAHA  I love this!! I would like to add that in Michigan it is unlawful for a wife to cut her hair without her husbands permission, as the husband is the owner of his wifes hair.

(Who came up with these laws anyways, i think they got to frisky with the peace pipe and rum back then roflmao).

Anyways to stay on topic, if it was in fact at this event and you were asked to stop, well to bad to sad. It gets very frustrating to see whats going on when you have morons spamming useless crap and clogging our journals with BS. Like the other person said, maybe jail would've been a good first step, but we dont know all the circumstances. Besides I think this is a good warning to people to not screw with EM's. With as much debate as there is on how to do events and such and blah blah, I think most everyone can agree the EM program is a plus considering the path UO has led.

Congrats to Messena for taking care of business and protecting the integrity of the events meant to bring people together in this game!

And for any excuse that it was someone else on your account-in the ToS and RoC you agree to keep your login information SECURE and that you and your account can/will be held liable for someone else's action or inaction on your accounts!

Stop whining, grow up.

Now if only they would ban the people who spam for items.

-Galen's player
Spamming at banks I don't mind so much because I can always go to another bank. Spamming in the Global Chat though I find exceedingly annoying. Sure, I can put that person on ignore, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a Global Chat.

What I refer to is spamming at EM events for items. The person in question was apparently spamming at an EM event. Luckily Messana was on-the-scene, but on GL there's anywhere from 1 to 5 people at every EM event spamming such things as "give me an item noob" or "give me an item pancake" directed at the Event Moderator, and insulting the people who are actually there for the event.

Messana, I am assuming, cannot be there for every EM event.

No, Buttercup, I am not ignoring your posts... I've read everyone of them. I don't understand why you believe everyone has to agree with your viewpoint, or what you think the punishment should be.

WE don't actually know what happened, because WE weren't logged onto that banned account, and WE weren't the Mythic rep at the event... so WE can't judge this fairly. I trust Mythic's judgment in this regard.

OH, and since you won't reply to me anymore... I WIN! WOOHOO!

I misunderstood your meaning... I absolutely agree with you. I haven't attended an EM event in several years because of the griefers.

why do I feel that no matter how many times I repeat myself, no one will listen. no one should be banned for spamming wooo. i don't care how many times. if it is an event you should be put in jail, if it is in global chat the system should boot you from the chat, and if it is in-game and not an event anyone that is bothered can put the person on ignore.

read each point carefully then explain to me why you disagree with my approach.
before you reload and recock your arguments, no one got banned for spamming "woooo" 4 times. There was far more involved than that.

I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong.. but there was a player, disrupting an EM run event, who was asked/told to stop his behavior repeatedly and refused. There may/may not have been several instances of racial and sexual slurs also hurled during said disruption. If you want to argue that these actions do not merit banning, then state your case.

Because you are correct in that assumption, maybe?

no one should be banned for spamming wooo. i don't care how many times.
When you are writing ToS for any game, maybe you can add that part in. OUR ToS seems to indicate that a person CAN be banned for just being annoying, and disrupting the fun of others in the game. Not your call, mind you, because you are NOT a Dev, nor an EA/Mythic employee.

if it is an event you should be put in jail, if it is in global chat the system should boot you from the chat, and if it is in-game and not an event anyone that is bothered can put the person on ignore.
Well...again...since you don't write, interpret, or administer the ToS for UO yourself, these are simply YOUR postulations on what SHOULD happen in the circumstances you described.

It would seem the realities of the game are very different. And it also seems you are in a Distinct Minority in your views of that administration of the ToS.

At least...from right here it certainly looks that way to me. Especially since I also give a very hearty and heart felt :thumbup1::thumbup1: for any such ban of a person. Any Such Ban. I will send in an extra $10 a month for that one myself. :gee:

if you extended your red highlight, underline, bold, and italicize a few more words you would see that I said "no matter how many times"

if I were to do that, I would be directly contradicting myself. it seems that you have selective reading abilities. you've clearly read bits and pieces of what I've posted instead of the entire thought.

reading over the RoC, I figure a GM could find a reason to ban just about everyone in the game if he/she wanted to.

Well...again...since you don't write, interpret, or administer the ToS for UO yourself, these are simply YOUR postulations on what SHOULD happen in the circumstances you described.
considering all punishment is up to individual GM's or based on internal guidelines which we do not have access to, I see no problem making suggestions which are permissible punishments under the RoC.

It would seem the realities of the game are very different. And it also seems you are in a Distinct Minority in your views of that administration of the ToS.
no, I think it is because I've read the entire thing, been playing UO for a long time, and I see there are clear alternatives to banning allowed in the RoC.

At least...from right here it certainly looks that way to me. Especially since I also give a very hearty and heart felt :thumbup1::thumbup1: for any such ban of a person. Any Such Ban. I will send in an extra $10 a month for that one myself. :gee:
you are suggesting EA should start a program to ban people you don't like if you pay them? please tell me you are joking.

this whole debate is kind of silly considering GM's are quite lenient compared to the hard liners on this forum. most of what I say is based on what their policies seem to be.

Dear spammer,

I'm sorry you didn't get hugged enough as a child, but seeking negative attention at the expense of other people's enjoyment is not the way to go. I'm not sorry you got banned, possibly you will learn a valuable lesson about the consequences of your actions that may stick with you as you enter adulthood and the real world.

Me

That's actually why it's not open for discussion.

They can terminate the service by any means they wish and at any time they wish. You don't own anything about the account you play & they don't have to surrender ownership to you in any form, no matter how much subscription you've paid. They're not required to define or justify their actions against your account as you've already agreed to it in the TOS.
