Spam War

It is against the terms of service to advertise a web site in-game, right?

A commercial web site whose name starts with "U" has a character whose name is "U.......(young)". They spam "visit www.U.........com" at both Luna and Haven. Several players, including me, have paged on him. It used to work.

Today I saw him at Haven. He said, "I have been banned 5 times in the last few minutes." Then he disappeared. He came right back and said "6." Was he hiding and stealthing, or getting banned and starting a new account? Later he disappeared again, came back, and said "7."

Later in the day I saw him again, running from Haven off to the moon gate presumably to go to Luna.

Looks to me like the spammer won today's battle. But maybe he will lose the war if readers of this post decide to not buy gold from somebody who laughs at our game.

That happens a lot.

It seemed like they weren't stopping it before the firings.

I dread to think how bad it might get now.

I forgot to mention the battle was a spammer vs the Atlantic shard. The spammer was NOT on Catskills, Lake Austin, or Sonoma so I assume it was just the one shard.

I guess the spammer must randomly change his IP address and new-account info. Would it work to ban anyone using his character name? Or search speech and ban him by the web site he advertises? Or auto log him out if he performs certain repetitive actions?

PLAYER JUSTICE! I bought a packy, put in one item, and renamed it "(web site name) HackedMyPaypalAcct"

If that doesn't slow down his business, he gets a "....didn't deliver my gold" tomorrow.

Maybe he found an old box on the shelf with 20 buddy codes.

I usually just move on and play or use the ignore feature if I am staying around the area. So what if I just have to add another of his/her characters on the list every so often. Better than having to listen to the spamming.

Be careful with this, cuz I think that if you don´t release the packy and keep it attached to your char, someone might page on you for having a pet with a site name on it...

They don't actually ban an account for that the first time they take them away, they suspend it for a few days, 3 it seems.

So they are using multiple accounts.

Every 3 days after a GM removes them they will tend to resurface and have to be paged on again.

Do it enough 3 times maybe, THEN that account should be perma banned.

They probably open trial accounts with all their employee's credit card numbers times however many credit cards each employee has?

Perhaps they also use their paying customers credit card info to do this?

Is it possible they could use a reloadable debit card with names and addresses from the telephone book? They should only be able to use a credit card once to open a trial account so I suppose not.

Keep paging and you will win the war.

They plague Atlantic because there are more potential cash customers there due to the larger population.

They do try it on Pac but after 2 years of me trashing their website ad books that they dropped and paging on their afk vendor scanner chars and paging on their website spammers Pac is fairly free of the scum.

And it's nice.

Update on this dude....he had TWO people in Luna spamming at the same time on the same day - both young status.....at least 2 accounts running simultaneously??? One was at the gate and one was in the bank. I know I know it could be his "workers" on two different computers...yes yes I understand but STILL. Seriously I would never use the website JUST because he is SO annoying.

there is certain ways you can run as many clients as you want 1,5,100,250 clients ... just an fyi. There are 100% not okay to use, but thats what these players are using.

Yep I knew it was possible but probably "against the rules". Just noting that he's probably breaking more than just the spamming rule.
