SP Community Nights ??

Ahoy mates, last night while ah' was drunk day dreaming by the Buccs Den harbor ah' thought up an idea that could benefit the Siege community. It's very rare we get to see us all as a community, it seems the last big gathering i saw here on siege was during the memorial of the late player behind Ginsu, God rest his soul. Why can't we gather like that once or bi-weekly to discuss shard issues. Ah' think me a Siege Community Night would be a swell thing to have. Why you may ask well here are some things we would be able to discuss at such a meeting.

1) RP or regular player run events in general. People who are new or NEW or returning or just bored sitting around with nothing good to do can learn about the latest player run events. Event Moderators can spread the word to those that dont read the boards often. Also any interested in helping the EM plan events could volenteer at a Community Night.

2) Guild recruitment can take place at Community Nights. This would be a great way for guilds to reach out and recruit some new blood. Also, anyone who is guildless or new to the shard can come and learn about the various guilds in our community. This is also a great way for Role Players to meet other RPers.

3) Player Run Quests. Not sure how many may be interested in this but if there is a general interest player run quests can be a possibility.

4) One of the most important things Community Nights will provide for our Shard is Shard News! Our siege reporters seem to have hung up thier ink and quills for some time now. Perhaps if these meetings were done once a week those who could not attend can read up on the happenings of said Community Night. Shard news is always + for the community and i'de like to see some more of it.

5) Open Floor Discussion. Questions, Concerns, Comments, and Opinions would all be welcomed and encouraged during a Community Night. We should work together to improve this shard and any advice would be great.

6) Post Meeting Activities! A great way to end the meeting with some after meeting adventures or such. These can be (but not limited to) Dungeon Crawls, Doom hunts, Dart Tourneys, Archery Contests, PvP madness, etc. There are plenty choices out there so there can be a new things every Community Night.

Now those are some of my reasons for hosting a Community Night. Would any of you like to see this happen, and if so should they be Bi-weekly or Weekly?? We would also have to agree on a set day and time that would be convenient for most to attend.

Location is also an issue. I have two spots in mind, we can either hold these at the Skara Brea Community Center or Buccs Den. Skara would be nice because there is GZ to protect people from greifers. Though any Reds in attendence would not be given the same protection leaving them open to attack in a room filled with blues. In Buccs Den there is no GZ but also leaves us open to raids which would create chaos in the meeting.

One good idea i got is for everyone show up to the meeting as ghosts. That way no one can be greifed and we could all understand each other. Also any passer-bys would see this congregation of ghosts and might become curious enough to pop in as a ghost to see what the hype is about.

This whole thing is just an idea, lemme know what you think, maybe we can make it happen for the good of OUR shard. Yaharr!

I kinda think its cool getting into one big vent server for some of the events. Puts a more personal touch behind the pixels ya know?

Not a bad idea, I don't know how many "issues" there really are to discuss, but I think it would be nice to have a weekly or bi monthly meet up just for the sake of socialization, and to give new players an opportunity to meet people.

I think a good spot would be in a player owned building, that way if anyone was being surly to reds or blues, they could be kicked.

Ideally somewhere near a moongate for easy access.

What was that event?

[/ QUOTE ]

An Iantown event back in 2005...I think Wilki was there, as well as Anissa if I recall correctly, he is just on the other side of the dirt plot out of sight.

Memnoch (in pink) was asking Anissa to judge between him and Castor at that moment. I don't recall exactly what she was supposed to judge on, but I do remember there was a lot of flexing.

We can bring those days back if we work together to build a strong community, i mean just cause we kill each other on the field doesnt mean we must hate each other as well.

Use the upper level of the Crafter's Pavilion north of the Britain moongate.

if everyone can spread word through their vent or guildchat about the community night, we could atleast maybe get a representative from the guild or seomthing and they can fill in anyone who missed it, or read about it on shard news if anyone reports it.

"5) Open Floor Discussion. Questions, Concerns, Comments, and Opinions would all be welcomed and encouraged during a Community Night. We should work together to improve this shard and any advice would be great."

We could fill 7 nights of the week every week doing number 5 alone.

Anyhow, sounds interesting. I would think saturday evenings work best, but idk...

Know this. There is no best day or best time.

QFT. Having been responsible for the Wintermoor community nights for a good while, and organizing a number of events during my time in UO, I can attest to that. People live in different time zones and have different schedules. About all you can do is choose a time that is most workable for the coordinators, and seems to get the biggest "I can make it" responses from the community.

How about alternating times. We need to include our European friends as well those that live to the far west of us. I would buy in if the whole community is enabled.

True, good point matey, perhaps if possible run them twice in one day. During the early afternoon for European players and again later in the evening for americas' players.

Maybe do a weeknight. Then go 10 or so days to do the next one on a weekend (preferably at a time when the Euro dudes could attend). Then give it a break for about two and a half weeks (so you would have roughly two community events in a month, one on a weeknight and one on a weekend).

Doing it once a week could actually hurt. We hosted fight night once a week once KSS stopped doing it. Once a week seemed a bit much. There is a lot of work that goes into preparing for these events. The organizers themselves can get burned out, and the people attending seem to be less impressed each time if the events are happening too often.

Once we started hosted Fight Night once every other week, it was MUCH better. Much less stress on our end, and more people came out.

Hope that helps you a little Avo.

Thanks for the tips! So bi weekly, one weekend day and one weekday day. I'm guessing saturdays in the afternoon for european people to attend as well aye? Sunday afternoons since the time difference they might be heading to bed for work on monday... Hopefully we could also get a siege reporter to come attend as well, so they can write an article so those who missed it can read about it atleast. And i'de like to thank you guys for your input and interest in the community for posting. Once i get a set date we can see how the first event rolls over.

As far as location for sed event...just a thought but the Arena in East Umbra NW of doom wouldn't be a bad place. Its large enough for many to attend, if peeps want to duel in a friendly manor there is plenty of dueling room on the main floor. The balcony's can basically see everything that is said etc....just a thought.

As Massu keeps pointing out this game is very item based. I propose a "Wrap yourself in woodland creatures and poke each other with sticks" events. This can be especialy good for the noobs.
Get together at a designated point (A) equip out of a bag of very basic arms and armor then proceed across the land spreading carnage and mayhem perhaps the final destination being an orc fort or a player run town. The PvP gods can also participate by either attacking or defending the ravening horde.
Chime in on a good time. I am thinking a trial run whenever we can get enough people could be; start at the GIL tavern, proceed to the orc fort then on to Umbra or Luna to then gate to a second location and from there to march on a player town. Dyed death robes can be provided for easy identification. Pink for the horde, red for the defenders and blue for the evil attackers, Oh and anyone not wearing a robe is just a twink there to spoil the event and damage our community spirit.

I just had another idea. Robe the shard event. Get a group of people together and wander the lands especialy the out of the way places where the solo players are. They then have a choice of joining us or going on there merry solo way but wearing a nice pink robe. Hopefully this will create a snowball effect as more people join to dominate the shard and have everyone tastefully coordinated in matching robes.
