Would someone be so kind to tell me once and for all whether slayer talismans
work for mages? I keep getting different answers from players ingame.

I was training my Cu Sidhe´s skills on swoop the other day on my mage tamer and since the dog is rather new it took me some time to finish off swoop. So I thought I will equip a bird slayer talisman (i even tried a bird killer talisman as well) and help the pet. But there was no difference whatsoever in damage output when I cast spells on the bird. My eval int is rather low (around 70 I think) but I would not expect this to be the reason for not being able to see a difference in damage output.

Would be greatful for any answers, thanks.

I can assure you that this definately isn't a beginner question i expect alot of people don't know the answer to this.

After have a brief convo with a certain Dev i come to the conclusion that Talisman damage buffs do NOT affect spells. If you had a weapon equipped it would affect the amount of damage it did, however it doesn't affect the spells you cast.

I have a suspicion that even if it was overlooked they would say it was intentional.

My guess is that it may be something to do with Mages already have extra damage from Slayer spellbooks perhaps ?

Not an official answer just my penny's worth.

Probably true, It would be nice to have a slayer and still be able to use a -0 mage weapon however.

Yes, if they just allowed it if no slayer book of the same kind was equipped, it shouldn't be a problem.
The values just shouldn't stack but I don't see the sense in not counting the talisman bonus with spells.
